$200 million in "worker cuts:"
Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Tuesday cast a dark vision of the city budget plan she will present to aldermen later this month, saying it might be the toughest vote City Council members will ever have to take because of its potential to disrupt workers' lives if she resorts to wide-scale layoffs or other labor cuts.
Though Lightfoot again declined to specify exactly how she will close a projected $1.2 billion deficit, the mayor said every meeting with her financial team about the issue “has been painful."
“Every single one, thinking about the hardships that our residents are going to have to endure, and particularly our personnel. I feel every single one of those painful choices," Lightfoot said. "They keep me up at night. They are in my thoughts all day long.”
Lightfoot made the comments Tuesday after the Tribune first reported that she is considering possible cuts of up to $200 million in Chicago’s city government workforce to help fill an estimated $1.2 billion budget deficit for 2021.
How about looking at the schools? $7.7 billion for starters.
Aldercreatures? Overstaffed and overpaid for the work they're doing.

We all know that the cuts are going to be actual city workers that do the work, the excess nepotism hirees will stay and taxes will go up.
Cuts will be janitors from city properties, garbage pick will probably be decreased to every other week, water bills will increase, Chicago park programs will be cut back and a lot more.

She tried to put up a little resistance last fall during the strike when they wanted 15% raises in 3 years and she gave them 5 instead but then she didn’t challenge them when they insisted on staying remote. She’s weak and scared. She should pull funds from the schools because they are drastically underperforming and now, completely under-utilized but she’s afraid of the blowback in the form of more strikes. Naturally she will have to pay the police more overtime to deal with the resulting strikes and I think she’d like to avoid that at all costs. It will take someone with far more courage to stand up to the CTU than Lightfoot.

I received an unemployment claim from the IDE (Illinois Department of Employment) and the expected wait time is days for a return call. FatAss said he was going to fix this in March but it is worse than before. City Hall and a clueless subservient 35th Street are in full panic mode as of Jan,Feb of 2021 we will be losing thousands of officers to retirement. They were caught off guard though by unsuspected retirements with officers that don’t have the age or time just packing it in. By Mar 2021 we will be so dangerously short, at the time of this writing, 1,800 officers with another 500 rumored ready to push the button. The Mayor was told the ONLY remedy in 2021 will be the 12 hour day, mandatory OT and extremely limited time off. Basically you will work 12 hour days and could be subjected to another 8 hour extension. She was shown other models submitted from other much smaller departments which will be used as the template for the changes. She is still doing everything in her power to fire anyone stripped and civilianize the 311 Center with her people. Our contract isn’t even anywhere near her radar, and knows we lack a backbone to force one.

I don't want to see anyone, public or private sector, lose their income, but it seems somewhat up-side-down for the those affected in the private sector (where wealth is generated) to have to support non-working public service employees. Public service workers are sitting home watching "love after prison" collecting their full pay check, while the laid-off private sector folks are home explaining to the kids why water is better than milk on their cornflake.

There are CPS schools out there that have 300-400 kids in it yet they have 10-12 people working in admin positions in the front office along with 3 or 4 deans. My grammar school had a principal and two secretary’s and that’s it. Now you walk into a CPS school office and it’s packed with all of these secretaries. Do you really need 8 or more secretaries for 400 kids??? No, you don’t. The CPS budget is so filled with garbage that the dead weight is all just stuffed in and lost in that massive budget. I bet that just one preliminary audit of CPS budget and manpower could easily cut over a billion or more out. But nobody wants to piss the CTU off in this city.

You want to talk about CPS waste.....CPS pays, I mean we pay for all the costs of summer and evening school classes for the fucktard jagoffs that didn't want to go to class during the regular school day and have to do credit recovery at night or in the summer. These classes help the CPS grad rate. Which is a fucked rate anyway because they use 5 years grad rates not 4 yr ones. Yet there's the CPS figurehead (Dr. JJ) every year touting what a success CPS is because of an inflated grad rate.
CPS can't find enough CPS teachers to put up with these fucktards for these summer and evening school classes, so, CPS hired a contractor in APEX Leaning to teach these classes online, including P 'FUCKING' E!!!! You want to talk about mini-bar process. MY GOD!!!!!
Online PE classes by APEX are on the honor system. Most lesson plans are: go workout and do something physical and report it back onto an online log. What could go wrong there, huh?
These evening and summer classes are the reason the fucktards have triple digit absences and tardies and why nobody can control them in school. The punks know there's little or no repercussions during the school year and that if they're still alive by the end of evening and summer school they'll graduate
Austin high school's principal even told her teachers and staff that if they see students in school they day they miss class, to mark them present to keep their attendance rate up and truancy rate low. But, remote learning got her. Her kids were there only 25% on average from match thru June and only 42% (104) logged on the 1st day of school. That rate is even lower now at a school of 244 kids and 8-10 admin type positions.
Why is Austin high school still open??? Is it because CPS considers it pre-prison???

Pretty hard to cut any funds for aldermen when it takes their vote to do so. I am not sure how the city could reduce the number of aldermen, but again it would take a referendum at the very least. Can you picture the political fight that would ensue trying to redraw ward boundaries with a reduced number of aldermen? And, all of it would be racial and ethnic and gerrymandering. It will never happen
Never any cuts to welfare etc..... Plenty of money for that no matter what happens. 85 % of 400,000 students get free breakfast and lunch everyday, plenty of money for that. How much money is getting pissed away on busing kids around. If you own a business and you lose 5,000 dollars a month you either change it to become profitable or you close the doors.
