More Shrinkage

Anyone think this is yet another reason why taxpayers are fleeing?

  • Property tax income for Cook County governments has nearly doubled since 2000, far outpacing the rate of inflation and growth in average wages, said a study issued Monday by Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas.

The report shows where governments’ tax appetites have grown the fastest in the city and suburbs. It’s accompanied by a tool on the treasurer’s website that lets property owners see the growth in their individual bills.

Pappas, whose office issues the tax bills and receives the payments, called the findings “a sobering reminder” of property tax burdens. “In the midst of a pandemic and a recession, local governments should take their foot off the gas pedal and stop raising property taxes,” she said.

It’s a challenging message for local government leaders, including Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who has proposed raising property taxes, cutting certain spending and refinancing debt to close a projected $1.2 billion budget gap for next year. The pandemic-induced recession has hammered revenue for state and local governments.

When you have entire divisions of government sitting at home, "earning" money for not working - instead of judicious and temporary layoffs when revenues are down - and then you attempt to raise taxes on everyone else, who (if they're lucky) are working reduced hours if at all....well, that's a recipe for disaster and more than a few people moving where taxes are lower and jobs are available.

Communism is ALL about government control - the larger the government the better. Don’t you think she knows she is fucking up the City? Massive amounts of debt and collapse is part of the process. Communism is all about burning it down and rebuilding a perfect utopia world where everyone shares equally. She’s getting us there ... enjoy the ride and to all the good folks who voted for Lori L ... fuck you!

Too many fake jobs. Too many deputies. Too many government agencies that duplicate services. Illinois has 102 counties, 1,428 townships, and 6,963 governmental agencies. The State and the Governor need to go on a diet.

Not to mention Lightfoot and Pritzker purposely doing everything they can, regardless of the cost to others, to destroy the economy and blame the President.

I had 4 gas company crews sitting in their trucks in front of my house for 9 days back in April. Never got out of the trucks. Probably a total of 10 guys. They even designated one truck for a ladies room, cuz they had one woman on the crew. You could tell they didn't know what to do but nobody sent them home so they just sat in the trucks and tried to stay awake all day long. Couldn't blame them.

have the Cook County board reduce their representation and compensation.

It is a new era for new ideas. Help eliminate county corruption and patronage.

way too many units of government and taxing bodies that result in redundency. More then half of the property tax goes for education, salaries, pensions, always new facilities.Townships, park districts and the list goes on and on. Too many school boards, way too many school administrators. It is politics and patronage. Educators are listed as the top pensioners in Illinois and the get the 3% compunded raise every year.

The big, old, portly, mannish looking Crook County Prez is lurking in the background waiting to rid the city of the Massillon Midget. The Midget is starting to bleed out.

real estate will be in free-fall by next year possibly 2022. It's hot right now if you want to sell because supply is so low. like 16% of mortgages are late - but that could be a bad # because the gov't has that forbearance program - but after that's up we'll see. What we do know is that 30% of renters are not paying rent. All due to Covid. Supply in places like Manhattan are high, and that will soon follow to all the major cities. BIG CRASH COMING. Biden will print money like a counterfeiter on Meth just watch.
