Canceled RDO Confirmed

Aside from the comments (via the CWB Blog):

  • The Chicago Police Department has canceled days off for three specialized units over the upcoming holiday weekend, according to an email sent to police executives Wednesday night.

Beginning Thanksgiving night, regular days off are canceled for officers assigned to district tactical teams, Crisis Intervention Response Teams (CIRT), and Community Safety Teams (CST), CPD Chief of Operations Brian McDermott said in the email. A copy of the message was provided to CWBChicago by a source.

[...] Normal days off for affected officers will resume Monday morning, November 30, McDermott wrote. He gave no reason for the schedule changes.

And the line gets stretched even thinner.

Just more overtime money. These teams should be staffed with young officers with little family ties anyway. Just a good spot to earn overtime while doing very little.

I'll be on furlough with my family enjoying my beach HOUSE in Nicaragua sipping on piña coladas. Young officers, make this job work for you just like I have. Family first, especially with little ones. Its a shame what this job has become, a once PROUD police department. Good night, gotta catch our flight.

There isn’t going to be a Thanksgiving parade. Why are days off canceled?

An old timer recalls working on Thanksgiving Day on a tac team. We were required to wear our class A uniforms and report downtown to stand on corners for the big parade on Michigan Avenue. Politicians and families would be present and supportive of the police.

Now the tac teams report to Michigan Avenue awaiting rioting, looting and criminal misbehavior. Now politicians fail to appear but do condemn the police from their hangouts. Families are nowhere to be seen but the thugs make their appearances and mock the police.

The media fails to notice the changes in society and when they do it is to blame the police for not being understanding.

Something is wrong with this narrative!

Fighting over the last Turkey leg can be stressful, hence forth the crisis teams will have to determine who gets it..
Officers will count the fambly members present to ensure their strict compliance with Brillo heads mandate.

You fuckin piece of SHIT!!!!!!!!

Why????

I’m not on tact or on any of these units, but what in the fuck????

Cancelling RDOs for what specific reason. You’ve been wearing our guys/girls thin and exhausting them at all costs this year. They’ve held up and kicked ass!!! God bless them. If the mayor is “not allowing” thanksgiving, then why do this??

You have no backbone and no fuckin balls!! The brass are fuckin garbage!!! I will NEVER follow any of these morons into any fight but would rather stand with my brothers/sisters in blue!

I’ve never been for one hitting the medical and always thought of it as a dick move, but you know what... cancelling your holidays is an even bigger dick move. Especially given how the year has gone. Hit the medical!! I’m sure everyone will understand and if they don’t, they should.

FUCK THEM!!!!!!!! Assholes!!!!!

I left the department and law enforcement this summer with 6 years on the job and 10 years overall in law enforcement. I had very mixed feelings about it because I felt like I was leaving everybody behind. But, now it's hard to have any regret. I work normal hours, have holidays off, can live anywhere as long as I make it to work on time, and even work from home on most days. I make slightly less than what I was making on the job, but I'll be making more and then some in a few years. My stress level has significantly decreased and I notice that I even swear a lot less. I might not get the same "excitement" at this office job, but you can keep it. Boring is fine with me. If you're looking on getting out, my advice is to finish your degree, do some outside work to get experience, and in an interview, focus on the aspects of the job that don't involve just yelling at pissers in the alley. I heard it numerous times that if you ever leave this job, the only place that you'll work at is Burger King. That is wrong. So if you're tired of the city treating you like trained circus monkeys and looking for something new, there is a life after law enforcement. It's not easy; but it's worth it in the long run. Work smarter, not harder.

Yes, it is. Arrived a couple of hours ago, I was afraid of that. Luckily I'm on the southern part of the country bordering Costa rica. I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of the blue shirt got sick with Covid due to the stress handed down by the Department during the holidays. All of us come first, then family, then friends, and the rest, finally work.

It is great to hear that you found a job. Most people have been stating that if you have no marketable skills and do not have a credible degree, then you will get a job flipping burgers. Without any real skill and being in terrible health (overweight), there are exceptions, you will have a hard time getting a job at Burger King. We have too many people on the department who unemployable. And the scary part is that they believe that they can quit this job and get a better and higher paying job right away.

I truly feel sorry for all the bullshit all of you officers have to deal with. When I dispatched, not CPD, I worked every holiday I could.
Double time and a half was worth it. My husband, hated what I did, tuff shit, and forbade me to ever talk about it when I needed to talk when I had bad calls. I loved every second of it, and even think about going back into it at times. Stay safe, and I’ll always back the Blue 💙
