Teachers are returning to work.....in February:
Chicago Public Schools officials are planning to resume in-person classes for elementary school students at the start of February in the most concrete move yet to restart traditional schooling after what will have been an unprecedented, nearly yearlong interruption, according to sources with knowledge of the district’s plans.
The decision comes amid increasing public health uncertainty as the city’s spread of COVID-19 infections reaches an all-time high and the school system faces heavy scrutiny from the teachers union and anxious parents. Officials relayed their plans to principals on a conference call Tuesday afternoon. A public announcement has not been made but could come later in the evening.

Predictably, given the reported election returns, the CTU quietly confirmed its willingness to explore options and enter into discussions with CPS officials in a by-candlelight tweet Sunday night.
Florian Sohnke correctly calls the CTU an "absolute menace" and attributes their willingness to come back to work as a sop to the presumed Biden administration wanting peace in the blue cities that provided enough fraudulent votes to wheel him over the finish line.
Time to look into a No-Strike clause for the teachers, seeing as how children are our most valuable commodity....and not bargaining chips.

My wife is a CPS principal. Monday February 22nd will be the first day of school as long as both sides agree. There will be no spring break though this year, just school all the way until the last day which looks like potentially Wednesday June 23rd.... For now....
CTU are a cancer upon society and absolute pigs.
This still does not solve my problem. Half the week elearning and the other half in school. They are doing this in Other states. Two full days and one half day in school and two full days and one half day at home elearning. In my opinion, this is actually worse and now I need a babysitter for odd days and odd hours instead of a set schedule. They just solidified my choice. January I’m pulling them and putting them in catholic school.

Thank god I pulled my kid out of Mt Greenwood this year. I didn’t want to send my kid to Christina but I have been absolutely surprised. You always hear other stories by other parents in Mt Greenwood which I also would then repeat about catholic schools but we love it. The kids love it and the staff and program is great. I was a suburban public school kid growing up so I didn’t know anything about the catholic school system and relied on the other people for information. They were right about certain things but I’ve gotta say they’ve got it all wrong about the main things. Nice school, very friendly and the kids are blossoming here especially socially. My Greenwood may have better academics but disciplinary and socially the catholic school destroys mt Greenwood. Mtg was super “clicky”, even the group we were in the parents picked the friends it seemed like. Christina just seems like ALL the kids in the class get along and hang out together and include everyone. Was a nice thing to see especially with anxiety about having the kids try to fit in a new place.. what’s also garbage is none of the parents from the old mtg group who my kids were friends with have almost “shunned” them now because they left school. This pandemic had a great silver lining for our family. Blessing in disguise. Such a relief to be away from CPS, politics in schooling and most of all the CTU.
My bets are kids are not going back to school.... covid will be over for months till kids go back to school
The timing is definitely not a coincidence. They're doing this to coincide with a couple weeks after the inauguration so that people can feel "things back to normal".
Why do they need attorneys and an arbitrator to bargain their return? Just tell them to get their asses back to work after their 8 month paid vacation while other workers had to work. Starting firing these people. This just points out the failures of the public school system, the politicians and the need for school choice.
It's absolutely astonishing that the teachers do not have a no strike clause!! Maybe if they did they'd settle for 10% raises instead of 16% and just maybe they'd pay more than 2% into their pension.
It will not last. One teacher or a few kids get ill and they will shut everything down and go back to zoom teaching. This will just create a logistical nightmare in one of the worst months in chicago's weather cycle.
Speaking of useless people....did you see gov. fatass cry and complain in his daily briefing about his family being harassed for not following his own COVID restrictions? Gee, it sure doesn't bother him when our kids get harassed by CTU teachers and called out on social media. It definitely doesn't bother him when we are threatened.

There is so much corruption in the schools, the parks and recreation areas, and politics in the city, county and state that the people running them are more detrimental to people of color than ALL the police in the entire country combined. The greed, irresponsiblity, and mismanagement is responsible for a large portion of the higher and higher taxes, the deficits, as well as the level of juvenile delinquency. Considering all these fails, if they were private enterprise they would be abolished or bankrupted or out of business. The success of government in Illinois is so bad when it comes to management, education, and HONESTY in they rank 51 out of 50 states!!! They cry about Covid and the let them do zoom classes from home. They cry about their school day is too long because of screen time. I mean what the fuck ? Then I scroll through the post below this one and see how depleted the police are from Covid infections and all I hear about this on the news are crickets. Coppers are putting themselves at risk all the time , however now is way more dangerous because there’s literally no back up. I see these sheets and cringe. NYC teachers Union is battling with corrupt low information imbecile DeBozio over who gets to decide if, when and how they’ll come to work. He wanted to lay them off, or at least the aides. This seems to be the trend, unions are pushing the envelope and using Strike as a convincer.
Time for the City to crack down and fire these radicals.
That bullshit elearning is not working and from what truth is out there, attendance is scant. Teachers should be accountable and show up everyday at their assigned schools as required by Contract, For Classroom Lessons. Nobody knows if elearning log-in time is being monitored, audited or even manipulated (like a Dominion voting machine) or simply left turned on with a blank screen for those 6 or so hours a day.
I don’t know how they can teach 30 kids at a time, do answer and question sessions, respond to what-if’s, have an open forum over a computer screen. This can’t be like a college level auditorium lecture, can it? Does it take a $60,000 a year teacher to sit behind a computer to tell kids to read a book, turn in a test sheet? Venezuela educators probably can tell you what they’d like to earn annually if they had a chance. Amazon also has an idea on how to do home schooling and from what I’ve seen, they’re already in the process of developing a global “order on-line” academic system. Looks to me like in-person teacher replacement is coming.
Homeowners and people in the regular workforce are facing a huge tax increases and it’s mostly about paying teacher benefits. Cutting payroll in the private sector never seems to be challenged unless there was a State tax incentive granted. Well, the same applies to government workers. No revenue - no free do-nothing pay, unless it’s reduced under IL Unemployment Insurance benefits.

So, parents have transferred students to Catholic schools. Has happened alot on the northwest side. Now that parents are awakening it is time for vouchers. Vouchers would only cover a miniscule amount of any private school tuition but should be explored. The should start at the FOP who should be exploring a safer form of education for officers children. The tax dollars dedicated by a person who owns a home should be able to follow a dependent to any certified educational program parochial or private. The tax dollars should follow the child not inferior schools or districts. If a child fails to get in a preferred school public or charter the student should be allowed to use those tax dollars elsewhere. Remember Catholic schools have been in the classroom having social interaction where CPS has been teaching via zoom. If you are really happy with CPS that is fine. I just think more power over your tax dollars for your child would make all educators public or private more accountable.

CPS in “name only”... they aren’t in name only when they go on strike for three weeks and close up for an entire year because the CPS teachers who happen to belong to CTU cry that they won’t go back to school either. You may think it’s in name only, but they are as tied to CPS and CTU as any other nazi CPS school. If everyone else strikes then so does mt Greenwood. If the do elearning for an entire year then so does mt Greenwood. It’s not in name only. And no, it doesn’t count because they “support police and fire” and most say they “don’t want to strike and don’t actually support the CTU” because They are still CPS and CTU weather they like it or not. I also recall driving past during the strike and seeing mt Greenwood teacher out there striking and carrying signs. You can’t have that huge addition put on your house and the new car every 3-4 yrs if you enroll your kids into private schools! Glad I pay to put my kids in private schools during this pandemic and away from the communist CTU!

Struck a nerve there. I dont hold the good CPS teachers accountable for their unions actions like I dont hold my fellow Officers accountable for our leaderships stupid decisions. I would rather have pro police and fire teachers inside the CTU who actually teach our kids in spite of the unions stance. From what I have seen the catholic church is not much different from the CTU. They worship the almighty dollar and turn their heads on internal scandals. At least you actually get something for your tax dollars instead of a substandard education that you overpay for.
STOP canonizing teachers. Most of them suck. Some are ok.

Just had this argument/debate with my pro-teachers (no matter what) girlfriend.
I joked "It must be nice, getting a full paycheck, while not even doing half the job".
"What do they do?" "Wake up, have coffee, open up the laptop wearing their pj"s, and post the lesson for the day?" "Then, the rest of the day is theirs?"
Can't say I blame the teachers much. I mean, if I could continue receiving my full pay, while not having to actually interact, in the flesh, with the wonderful CPS students or their parents, I'd take that option.
Hey! Maybe some geek type, can come up with a way for coppers to "Work From Home".
I hate to tell the Mt Greenwood/public school cheerleader here that the kids that go to my Greenwood are big time A-Holes.. I’m not sure if it’s because of the CPS nonsense and hands off approach(yes, even Reidy is softer on the kids.. she’s tougher on the parents to show her tuffguy marine side.. I was a marine and I know her REAL story so don’t be fooled) or the fact that it’s just filled with a bunch of entitled coppers kids. Yes I’m the police but I love telling my kid that if they screw up or if they disrespect a police officer or get shitty with one then they will suffer the consequences and go to jail if need be.. most cops kids have their same arrogance and entitlement of their CPD parents and it shows incredibly at Mt Greenwood. I’m happy that in the private school they will put the hammer down and I’m ALL for it. Good luck with the elearning and next strike skippy..
