Mayor Lori Lightfoot doubled down on her proposed $94 million property tax increase during a private meeting with the City Council Latino Caucus on Sunday, telling them they’ll have to pass a hike either this year or closer to the 2023 election, aldermen said.
Lightfoot also reiterated that she plans to link her budget with changes to the city’s sanctuary city ordinance even though the Latino Caucus opposes tying them together.
Early in the meeting, Lightfoot told City Council members, “I don’t consent to being recorded,” according to five aldermen who were on the call.
Groot has destroyed quite a few relationsips that are essential to governing effectively. Teachers, other unions, cops, aldercreatures. In fact, one of our readers commented:

It would be a violation of the open meeting act to conduct legislative meetings on anything much less the budget and ban recording. She can not say she doesnt wish to be recorded in what would constitute a public policy meeting. Illinois is a two part consent state and her declaration is an attempt to cover herself under this statute. However public figures enjoy less freedoms and especially in group legislative meetings covered by the the Open Meetings Act.. someone get the Feds she is crossing lines of public corruption. God knows Ferguson has no jurisdiction however he could issue a statement on this New form of Government interaction.

That’s the million dollar question isn’t it? Spouse is a nurse at a hospital downtown and her and colleagues are all concerned about the same issue. They’re mandated to receive flu shots every year, and they’re concerned about being forced to take a Covid vaccine that’s been thrown together in eight months, and nobody knows if it has long term side-effects. Many of the nurses are considering passing on the shot, but are concerned that they’re employer will make it mandatory for continued employment. The reality is that they may have no choice if the want to continue in their field, as all hospitals may make it mandatory.
