Groot's "pandemic budget" passes by the narrowest margin in decades:
Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Tuesday savored her hard-fought budget victory, even though her winning margin was the narrowest in decades and could spell trouble when it comes to making the tough decisions ahead.
The mayor’s plan to raise property taxes by $94 million, followed by annual increases tied to the consumer price index, passed with only two votes to spare. The roll call was 28 to 22.
The “No” votes were cast by 11 white aldermen, including some of the mayor’s closest allies, along with seven Hispanic and four Black aldermen. They were concentrated in wards that comprised Lightfoot’s political base.
That last paragraph doesn't make sense - if these "No" votes were her "closest allies" AND they represent her "base," who exactly did she get the 28 "Yes" votes from? Her enemies who represent voters who went for Prickwrinkle?
And somehow, there weren't 3 votes to flip?
By the way, the Vallas post from a few days ago was 100% accurate - future property tax increases are built into this budget so aldercreatures can claim "I didn't vote for a property tax increase" when it's automatically tied to the rate of inflation or the cost-of-living increase. This also means that pretty much every "raise" all of the unions negotiate from this point forward is merely a slowing of salary reductions.

I think there's a lawsuit here on behalf of the tax payers; the elected cannot abrogate their responsibility to levy taxes to an algorithm in order to shield themselves from the jeopardy of accountability. And, let's be honest, that's why it was voted through: it was engineered as, the taxes will go up without you (alderperson) having to explain or be held directly accountable for the increase. The whole lot of them need to be chucked out!
How labor unions can back the demoRats is unfathomable. Give a raise and then reach around and take from your back pocket, leaving you as you were from the start. Well...talk about the difference between CPD and DCFS. The employee who came up with that insane policy was an F/1 who was the #2 person in DCFS. Within 72 hours that person was given an ultimatum ....resign immediately or be demoted and disciplined. That person chose to resign at that moment. Her policy was also quickly rescinded
If that POS was in CPD she would have either been moved into a new spot (like the academy) or promoted

Hey ace, look at your tax bill. Where is the state listed as a taxing body? It is not. State has no part of property taxes. That is only local entities.

The school of thought in the past was to make the country colorblind, but no more. Now race has to be at the forefront of everything, because colorblindness just isn't good enough to the perennially aggrieved. They fear they might not get "theirs." The media plays along in order to stir the pot.

SO TRUE! Within minutes of the vote, 19th Ward Alderman Matt O'Shea sent out an email that he voted no because the hard working people of his ward couldn't afford this tax increase. What a load of bullshit! He kisses her ass on a daily basis. He went crying to her that if he voted yes, he would have real competition in the next election. She gave him the OK to vote no. Anne Scheible, are you paying attention? You almost beat him last time. If not you, how about some P/O or former P/O? The entitled Democrats need to be taken down. Remember, Trump got 73 million votes before the "steal" started. There are a lot of right thinking people even in Democratic Chicago. It's time to stand up and pick an outsider like Trump who did more for this country in three years than the Democrats have done since 1930.
