Actually she was given the perfect opportunity to prosper and make Chicago financially sound. The economy was booming, unemployment was at an all time low, “black and brown” communities had record low unemployment, developments were booming and the stockmarket was breaking records monthly. The question is who would want to preside over Chicago turning into Detroit or East St. Louis. It would be all but impossible to get a competent person to take over because of the near certainty of failure no matter what. No one wants that kind of failure on their resume. And that assumes you can get the voters to vote in someone competent. There is nothing about Chicago voters that says to me they are smart enough to do that.
It is possible Groot was allowed to win so no one anyone cares about would take the fall for Chicago going down the tubes.
After the bankruptcy and the elimination of a third of the city's employees, someone competent can come in and deal with getting the city back on its feet. But that will be a decade or more. It will be a rough decade for Chicagoans as they see their property values plummet to Detroit like levels.
If the city loses just ten percent of its population, $400,000 homes will be selling for $300,000 with few takers. And the sellers will mostly be upside down anyway so they can't even sell without putting real money most don't have into the deal. So a lot of properties will just sit and rot.
Smart homeowners will sell now while they can to investors and lease back so the investors take the hit. But there is not a lot of time. Probably no more than a few months.

I didn’t see Daley’s kids hiding behind security in the form of a dozen CPD. Pat was a goof, but Nora was a class act. Lalley was too young for me to know personally, but I assure you the Daley family never had more than 2-3 cars on the detail. And never stripped the neighborhoods of police to serve themselves.
Lori Lightfoot is a joke and a failure in so many ways. A suburban out of state transplant claiming Chicago, like so many Lincoln Park Trixies named Katie stumbling home for the walk of shame after a late night in Lakeview. Train wreck as those lilly white dummies were, at least they were something to look at. Our current fake Chicagoan mayor can’t even bother to look like anything other than homeless. An embarrassment to Chicago.
If Illinois and Chicago are truly for the protection of property and for the safety of its citizens against civil unrest, then deploy the Illinois National Guard to aid in a safe peaceful state.

The Vice Mayor is Tom Tunney. He would serve uniting the City Council chooses a replacement.
He asked a lot of pointed questions to the Supt. during budget hearings again this year. Last year EJ was really pissed at his questions about why so many deputy chiefs, merit promotions, Cynthia Sam/mass transit, etc.
The rumor about Shitfoot resigning has been spreading like wildfire since last week. Apparently she wants U.S. Atty for Northern Illinois or another high up Justice Dept gig. I don’t see Trump appointing her, though. 😂

Word from inside says they are preparing for a Special election by end February. Working date Feb 16th. If Willie Wilson loses expect to see him run. Prickwinkler will be running Foxx if she loses the ASA gig.

No special election. The Vice Mayor, currently Ald Tunney, serves until the City Council selects a new mayor from among its members. That’s how Sawyer became mayor after Harold Washington died.
(65 ILCS 20/21-5.1) (from Ch. 24, par. 21-5.1)
Sec. 21-5.1. Vice Mayor - Election - Duties - Compensation.) Following election and qualification of aldermen at a general election as provided by Section 21-22 of this Act, the City Council shall elect, from among its members, a Vice Mayor, to serve as interim Mayor of Chicago in the event that a vacancy occurs in the office of Mayor or in the event that the Council determines, by 3/5 vote, that the Mayor is under a permanent or protracted disability caused by illness or injury which renders the Mayor unable to serve. The Vice Mayor shall serve as interim Mayor. He will serve until the City Council shall elect one of its members acting Mayor or until the mayoral term expires.
The Vice Mayor shall receive no compensation as such, but shall receive compensation as an alderman even while serving as interim Mayor. While serving as interim Mayor, the Vice Mayor shall possess all rights and powers and shall perform the duties of Mayor.
