UPDATE: Supposedly, a big pow-wow at City Hall about the spot in 006. The optics look bad, having the First Deputy's wife promoted and having her name attached to the test cheating scandal and a few other incidents. She might get a Captain spot in 022, but the alderman there doesn't want her.

I think we should make a push to do yearly reviews of the supervisors, by underlings. They get to evaluate us, I think it’s high time downtown knows what the majority of a watch thinks about it’s Lts, sgts capts cmdrs. Then maybe downtown will stop some of these moronic promotions. A lot of these people the watch won’t even trust approving a case report let alone managing a district. How will downtown ever know this tho unless they are able to sit down and look at how an entire watch or district feels about a certain supervisor. I think it’s a win all around. Downtown learns who the true leaders are and it adds to the legitimacy of the promotion process. They learn that certain people can’t lead before they merit promote them just because their drinking buddy vouches for them.
Sadia Carter. Her husband is number 2 in the department and she goes from Lt straight to commander without even hitting captain. They aren’t even trying to hide it anymore. And good ole Rock Muhammad is back to ruin area 2 again, lucky them. Snelling belongs at the academy so I’m fine with that, please Larry bring back hard PT and some sort of discipline.

Snelling is the first DC to actually know training in the last 12 years. The academy job used abused as a political spot. Calloway and Johnson filled it with political favors, officers who cannot teach. Hopefully he will have freedom to make the necessary changes and recruit competent instructors in the classrooms. Possibly reinstitute discipline?

He was special in 010 also. Sounds like he hasn’t changed. At least you know what to expect. Told the POs he was brought there as Sgt by a Retired DC to straighten out the District? By-passed one of the Departments best (Ret.) Lts and ran to the DC about everything. Wrote many spars some officers carried in their FOP books for proof that he was that big of a ________. Wrote POs up for leaving a box while assisting other Officers call for back up a block away. Appeared to be apprehensive of the street. Parked all night in front of the station logging his cars from the gps system. Talked in a whisper to keep Officers from hearing his supervisor skills while talking to everyone. Sgt Munchie.

OT Anyone hear that the Supt is upping every suspension recommendation from COPA ? Partner got 30 days from COPa and found out Brownie put it up to 60. Even if he fights it he’ll be lucky to take the original 30 and everyone is scared to go against him because they know its from Groot and they don’t want to lose their exempt spot. Even with all the forced OT I don’t think my family could take a $14K hit.

He was special in 010 also. Sounds like he hasn’t changed. At least you know what to expect. Told the POs he was brought there as Sgt by a Retired DC to straighten out the District? By-passed one of the Departments best (Ret.) Lts and ran to the DC about everything. Wrote many spars some officers carried in their FOP books for proof that he was that big of a ________. Wrote POs up for leaving a box while assisting other Officers call for back up a block away. Appeared to be apprehensive of the street. Parked all night in front of the station logging his cars from the gps system. Talked in a whisper to keep Officers from hearing his supervisor skills while talking to everyone. Sgt Munchie.
My interactions with Snelling has always been positive. He always been a honest, straight forward and stand up guy IMHO. Don't get all the negative comments here but sounds like there just based in envy. No examples of how he ever screwed anyone over, just people crying about how fast he's moved up the ranks or that he has an eye for the ladies, what red-blooded American Man doesn't ? And that youtube smoking gun, shows nothing but him trying to protect his Sgt and the Troops from a complete asshole that could never get away with that shit when I first came on. At least, he didn't just hide in the back like most would.
I agree that the promotional system in this dept is a completely joke, but who among you would honestly look a gist horse in the mouth and turn it down ?
At least it happen to a decent guy who treats us like family, unlike a lot of the bosses that treat any lower rank like the hired help and look down at you.

There is only so much that you can do when the murder is on video. JVD has been convicted of murder. He received a gift from the court system, around 7 years for a murder conviction. I am sure that you believe that JVD is getting released tomorrow and is getting his job back. By the way, JVD took down many other officers with him for his delusional beliefs, lack of training, and stupidity. A few other officer have been fired for the incident.

He ran the unit by himself for a couple of months as a LT (once again showing how unnecessary the upper ranks of the department are). I know he has his detractors and faults, don't we all. The rumor mill had some real losers as possible Commander for Narcotics. I'll take JB anyday, congrats again!!!

Calloway and Johnson filled it with political favors, officers who cannot teach. Hopefully he will have freedom to make the necessary changes and recruit competent instructors in the classrooms. JB was the king of the shortcuts as a sergeant. His team was too young and lacking in experience to know any better. He's shady af. As far as Kimble well, at least he knows the ins and outs of a narcotics investigation. That knowledge is in short supply at Homan Square these days. Mills and jb are without a clue.

JB was a good boss to work for. He took care of people and genuinely cared. From what I saw and heard everyone liked working for him and he didn’t hide in his office like most Supervisors. He was always hitting the street and leading from the front. What are the actual fucked up things about him? People on here seems to just say people are shit without any real basis or examples.
Same thing with Snelling. There is so much shit talking on here but he’s the one guy at the academy that was hard but fair. He’s the perfect person to run that place. He pushes for recruits to be professional, disciplined and physically and mentally tough. Callaway was a slob and made the academy a joke. I also think if you talk to anyone in 7 they will tell you Snelling is a good boss and definitely not scared of the streets or the shit heads.
But I guess no matter who you are or what you do people will always have a problem with people. The whole world already hates cops, it’s unnecessary for us to hate each other too.
I'm getting a good chuckle out of all the comments about Narcotics. This poster or that poster stating which merit guy is better than the other merit guy. You can count on one hand the Sgt's in 189 who made it by test score. Gangs, Vice, and Intelligence are no different. The fact of the matter is this, you have good and even great Sgt's and Lts's who were merit. You have some real losers or worse just the same. I've been a supervisor for over a decade by test score and hands down the most gutless and clueless Sgt's and Lt's I've worked with made it by test score. You can tell they spent all their time studying and have no clue how to actually do the job. They shit their pants if they have to make a decision. I've met test score Sgt's who have never even done an inventory let alone an arrest report. I've worked with test score Lt's who I don't think have ever worked the street. They literally know how to do absolutely nothing other than look up department directives on the computer.
SCC, I would love for you or someone who gives you info to look up the supervisors in all the units and let the regular working copper know who's merit and who isn't. I think it would quite interesting.

I've known Danny for 27 years. He was a very hard worker in 025 Not to mention a good person. One of the few, very few exempts that is actually competent. His victim was an unarmed, mentally-challenged kid, who he chased around in his personal vehicle, and then fired shots at him from inside that vehicle, while that victim was presenting zero threat. I believe the story was that he knew the kid from the neighborhood and had some problem with him. Either way, when chasing someone in your personal car, off-duty, for doing NOTHING WRONG, and then shooting at that person from inside your vehicle, WHEN THEY PRESENT ZERO THREAT, let alone a deadly threat, are you actually so fucking stupid that you think it matters if he's autistic?
