As the fight continues over the safe reopening of Chicago Public Schools in the midst of a raging public health crisis, the Chicago Teachers Union has released for the first time a list of demands it wants met before members return to schools, including lower COVID-19 test positivity rates, testing and vaccination protocols and changes to both hybrid and remote learning.
Some of the demands are likely to face strong and immediate rejection by city officials who have been adamant that it’s up to them to decide how and when the nation’s third-largest school district will return to classrooms for the first time since March.

The CTU is the biggest threat to the financial well-being and future of Chicago. They pretend they are for the kids but everyone knows that’s a lie. The CTU acts as though they are the mayor. How about we, the taxpayers, make some demands? First, teach my kid reading, writing and arithmetic (used to be referred to as the three "R's"). Second, don't teach my kid "revisionist" history. (Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, despite what Joe Biden says). Stop teaching kids to fear the police, rather, teach them some respect for the police. If the pussy teachers are going to get $5K hazard pay, the cops should get $5K to $10K hazard pay. We are the ones who get spit on, scratched, bit, etc when facing peaceful protesters or having to takedown the asshole during an arrest. Cops are more likely to contract a multitude of diseases besides COVID.
If masks work and social distancing works then the fucking snowflake teachers are more than protected from contracting COVID. Heck the Board of Ed could build clear partitions between the class and the teacher’s desk. Also, besides wearing the mask the teacher can also wear the clear shield that others and medical personnel wear. Couple with a steady protocol of taking temps, disinfectants of various types, there is no reason the teachers can’t go back to teaching in the schools. And certainly with the aforementioned precautions along with others there is no need to pay $5K hazard pay. And let’s not forget the likelihood of children, even teenagers, contracting COVID and spreading COVID.

I would suspect that the learning levels of most Chicago Public school students will be just about the same, whether they are in the classroom or remote learning. The teachers have never done a really good job and they are never held accountible for that. And, in many households the parents are not involved and do not care. Teachers should be in their classrooms conducting remote learning and when this pandemic is over, the school board should investigate the large scale use of remote learning and lay off a lot of teachers.Just keep an aide in the room to keep order. Everything is going remote, business for certain, and that is a trend that is here to stay. Lets use it in education where it is age appropriate.

Education is a fundamental human right, right? Sure they can and will manipulate the test scores and attendance to say elearning StayAtHome skool is working but that’s not being brought up yet due to Springfield Dept of Ed also under stay at home operations. Wonder what the IL schools funding has been approved for the first installment with what, 60% OnLine skool attendance.
A responsible government would be monitoring the teachers, the online traffic, the IP addresses and of course student attendance and test scores. Heck, it’s no secret that every student moves up a grade and all graduate regardless.

The CTU is a cancer on Chicago’s financial future. It’s amazing that police officers continue to work every single day 4 years no contract. No complaints, they all show up even when treated like garbage. While the CTU gets a big fat raise(after walking off the job)now they are using Covid to stay home because they love working from home. Who wouldn’t? Meet their demands or else they say. All cops ask for is a pay raise being out of a contract long before Covid. So who’s the real grinch in Chicago? The CTU. The city should set a hard date for when schools will open. The teachers who choose not to return to school would be fired. Cps would then dissolve the teachers union and make all the teachers who “suddenly” want to return to CPS reapply. Newly hired teachers will loose all tenure and have to start from scratch.

When I toured my kid's high schools and elementary schools here out west, I had to fight back tears. My kids are going to school in the place that I dreamed of when I was a kid. It was like a movie. I had to take my kids back to Chicago to help them understand how far we have come. They would not believe that I attended High School at Bogan, they had a hard time believing that it was ACTUALLY a school. I had to pull into the parking lot and show them around to convince them that yes, this is the dump that I attended high school in and it costs the local taxpayers 4 times more than we pay for the incredible public schools that they attend. They kept asking, where is the football stadium, where do the kids practice sports? They thought that ALL high schools have stadiums. Cute, huh?
Then, I drove them through Englewood and Austin. I told them about how our buses were attacked with bricks after football games, win or lose. I told them about wearing my damn football helmet and pads on the bus to protect me from flying bricks thrown from the families of the opposing teams. They now understand why Dad is the way he is. The "Chicago Education" that my kids received is still one of the best lessons that they ever received. They now know where the bottom is and they absolutely know how lucky they are. My kids have never actually seen criminal behavior. Beat that.

The study showed that immigrants like my Grandparents arrived in the Chicago ghettos, then worked their way out of the city, into the better neighborhoods and prosperity. CPS teachers can be drug tested if there is probable cause. They are not randomly drug tested. I worked for CPS for 23 years after teaching for the Archdiocese for 16 years. I couldn’t stand the CTU. I did it for the money. As a single parent, I wanted to send my three children to private schools. Thank you for all that you do for the citizens of Chicago. God Bless CPD! It's a shame that we are stuck with the 2020 census count for the next ten years considering the rate of people exiting the state. Illinois is expected to lose at least one representative/electoral vote and possibly two seats this year if we get another 246k population loss.
