Disparate Enforcement

So Tunney is facing two fines - one for up to $10,000 and another for up to $500. Note: "up to," meaning he could be fined considerably less....and probably will be because he's an aldercreature, he's connected, and this is Chicago.

Is everyone reading familiar with the Palace Grill on Madison Street? Anyone who has worked the west side, visited OEMC or attended a United Center event has probably stopped there for a bite. It's been there far longer than we've been alive....and we're old.

A health inspector visited there in early November after receiving an anonymous complaint that people were eating inside. We'll let our e-mailer pick up the story there:

  • When she was there, there were no customers inside the restaurant. With that, she began looking around, asking for licenses, walking around outside, etc. She ended up writing him 5 tickets (each $10,000.00 fines). She wrote him tickets for the following: No permit for his outdoor tent (which is required for outside dining and in his parking lot), liquor license violation, a neon sign (which he says has been there for 82 years), flower pots (24 years), and awnings (24 years).

$50,000 in potential fines, all while:

  • no one is in the restaurant....and no evidence anyone was;
  • a tent in his lot to comply with outdoor requirements;
  • a sign that's been up eighty-two years;
  • flower pots and awnings that have been there decades.

We can't opine on the liquor license violation, but $40,000 of the "fines" are absolute bullshit, and probably more than enough to put the restaurant out of business. You think this is political? Someone wants the land the Palace Grill sits on?

Tunney kept Ann Sather open for weeks. He admitted it, even while lying that it was "regulars." You think the inspectors pulled the register tapes and fined him for every day he was open? Of course not - he's an aldercreature.

But this unconnected (less connected?) joint might very well be bankrupted while trying to play a rigged game.

That "health inspector" was out to produce revenue, had nothing to do with health.
Any restaurants or for that matter any businesses that survive and don't move out
of the city will be subject to the same treatment. Legalized robbery. The looters
will clean out the merchandise, Lightfoot will clean out the bank accounts. The businesses had better flee to the suburbs before they are totally broke.

What a shame. Democrats are now the party of Silicon Valley, Wall St, and big business (Amazon). Republicans are the party of the average American worker and small business owners. It’s been flipping since Obama but now it’s crystal clear. Hence all the lockdowns on small business owners.

Chicago is the land of opportunity - that’s why the population growth has been explosive. Little government regulation, businesses growing, significant job creation and growth, the “go to” destination, the most prominent US City after NYC ... wait, my bad, this is not the 1930’s or 1940’s ... it’s the 2020’s so never mind. Chicago is now a shit hole with dim prospects and that’s why everyone with a brain is trying to get the fuck out. This is not your grandmother’s Chicago. The cost of living has exploded, not because of all the people fighting to live here and bidding up prices ... rather ... the cost of living is high due to ungodly taxes, cronyism and corruption.

The fines are not determined until after a hearing, so hopefully they’ll go easy on the owners. So far, the fines for not adhering to COVID mandates have not been at the top of what’s allowed. Businesses do need to get permits for tents no matter what the use.

The director of one of the West Loop neighborhood associations can be a real bitch. Maybe it was her who made a call. She threatened a friend of mine that she’d send 12th District officers to shut down the business because the city gave her the wrong permits. She didn’t realize my friend knew the bosses in 12 a lot better than she did.

These businesses that all the alderman run are nothing but a front for their pay to play bribes. you need something from the alderman? oh looky here I'll have all my family and work food catered from his restaurant or purchase restaurant gift cards that never get used.

So yesterday we had copious comments on how AlderAsshole Sticky Buns is a good guy and pro police. The owners of the Palace Grill are definitely pro police and an asset to the community. I've been patronizing the place since i was a recruit and back then it was an island in a sea of poverty and run down businesses. Let's see how many readers come to their defense while the city inspectors try to fine them out of business. Let's hope that the voters of Lakeview toss Sticky Buns out of office next municipal election - then he won't be able to wave his city issued 2 way radio in the real police's face. FU LL & TT!

It ain’t the Covid’s it’s the Plan.

AlderFool’m Tooney (D-44) should have stood up to Lyin’Larri an JB Pigfluenza instead of whimpering and apologizing. Restaurants should be open and free from this bullshit Covid’s contraction liability the politicians created. Super spreader events is a hoax. Eleven days since Colonial Thanksgiving weekend and no huge, detrimental influx of the WooWoo Hans virus.

Don’t let a crisis (manufactured) go to waste.
As for the gentrified West Loop of 012, Palace included, the masked compliant critters that moved in and live all around Madison & Racine bellyached for years as old factories and warehouses were systematically demolished to make way for condo canyons. That Palace plat of survey has a quite large footprint worth some good coin.
A bit of history of some 012 real estate besides the Academy grounds...
Back when the City deemed the old Water Markets an eyesore and health hazard, Shanks sent in inspectors to fine the ever loving shit out of those that wouldn’t comply, piled on daily fines until they moved into the new Water market complex on the southwest side or folded altogether. The city then developed the land for a generous donor-developer with tax incentives to boot.
They knocked down an old factory shop building that used to house Wolley Taxi cabs repair shop to build a townhouse village across from the Old 012, tender snowflakes used to complain about the sirens and parking after they moved in.
Inspectors slapped catch-all can’t contest “awning” violations to the original mom & pop corner store Fontano’s.

There are many examples of West Loop tear downs and condo pop ups all over 012. No jobs, just housing that too can be taken at will of the tyranny. When the inspectors get that frivolous with the fines, you know they’re either looking to just screw someone over or declare eminent domain.

Someone might be eyeing that property and prodding the imbecile Bughouse Larri.

Eating is a fundamental.
Ald Tooney will have to stand up for once, set the bar and advocate for the return of free enterprise and the right to assemble and eat.... or just comply and succumb to the angry toads tyrannical demands.

A week later they were all hit with fines for trespass, was it? Or destruction of city property?

The rigged-game you speak of has been going on in big cities for decades (generations likely). Thing is, it was almost always under the radar and when it hit the radar people did "mea culpas" and asked for forgiveness.

The multi-tiered system of policing and justice is now in the open for all to see and none of these people doing it care a lick that citizens can see it. Whatcha gonna do about it? Answer is nothing.

Elections are openly rigged, federal and state and local systems of justice are used to reward friendlies and punish opponents and our rule of law is totally gone.

Whatever you think of Trump, I think his greatest accomplishment has been exposing the undeniable, deep-rooted corruption in federal law enforcement and the courts. Our rule of law in America means bupkis and we are not much different today than Stalin's Russia or Mao's China in that sense.
