For mass gatherings, CPD, UPD and CCSO all said that they would not respond. The only ones who do? College kids are among the most susceptible because they party, screw, hang out indoors more than anyone else. It might not be as dangerous for them to get Covid but the rest of the community down there is more likely to have co morbidities...
I do agree that those numbers are skewing the overall results but the lesson should have been to figure out how to test MORE people around here. There are tests out there that cost 2-4 bucks and do not require assistance from nurses.Slovakia used them to do mass testing. There is no imagination out there to figure this out in the city or rest of state apparently.
In Chicago about 30-40% of the population has tested at least once since March. We should be testing everyone at least once a week. That is the only way to bring the numbers down until we get the vaccine. This is the story that no one is reporting.

I’m thinking that all this Covid’s testing is a daily, recurring, repetitive and redundant process, even if one is already infected for 7-10 days, in a hospital, nursing home, clinic, no matter who’s doing the testing over and over again. How many tests can be had with one swab? Do they run multiple test through the scanner like a mail-in ballot?
Who’s to say - in these challenging times.

My kid's at the UIUC. Indeed, they are tested twice a week, and if you are not up to date on your testing - your student ID gets turned off. What he tells me is that for all the testing there has not been even a single hospitalization, however, at least two kids killed themselves, including one in his dorm. He also tell me that in absence of all social activities people drink, a lot.
Ha! The numbers will improve. Campus has been closed since just before Thanksgiving & they won’t reopen until mid-January. There’s a minimal number of students there now (mostly international).

90% of these test at U of I are saliva test, not swabs. Swabs are used if symptoms are present or for contact tracing. Administrators said early on that they would be using frequent testing to find carriers who may be asymptomatic to prevent the spread unknowingly. I think that was a wise call, considering the social lives most of these kids lead.

Weird I thought Pritzker bragged in August about how the UIUC rapid tests would scale up across the country (and of course line Silver Spoon Boy’s pockets). If these tests are as good as advertised, why aren’t they being used in veterans homes and nursing homes instead of amongst a young healthy population? How much is the testing company making off of selling these tests to a captive audience?

There's no company, the tests were developed right there, at UIUC. And that's probably why they are not used elsewhere - since it is all done with public funds there's no money to be made off of it.

Notre Dame uses primarily the saliva test, which I think U of I developed.
As a former UIUC employee, the mandated 2-3/week depending on your work schedule it would throw any sort of actual (useful) statistics way off... So many "clean" tests over and over from the same people getting tested, and if you come up positive? Stop testing until it is clear... No wonder the "positivity" rate is stupid low... No mention of the cost of this excessive testing of course, is there?
