Mystery Vigilante?
We're surprised this hasn't happened before (that we know of):
An unidentified gunman who shot and wounded a man during an attempted robbery in the Goose Island neighborhood Sunday morning was himself shot and killed moments later, Chicago police said.
The 28-year-old victim of the attempted robbery told police the assailant approached him and announced a robbery around 4:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Frye Street just east of the Kennedy Expressway, police said in a news notification. The robber then shot the victim in the leg.
The victim managed to run away after being wounded but told police he heard multiple gunshots fired as he fled, police said. Police officers responding to the scene found the suspected gunman suffering from numerous gunshot wounds to his body. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. The victim of the attempted robbery was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
It remains unclear who shot the suspected gunman, who remained unidentified Sunday. Authorities said he didn’t appear to have a prior criminal history with Chicago police.

The victim was shot during an apparent armed robbery. As he was being robbed and shot , a passing good Samaritan observed the foul deed and tried to stop it. The Samaritan and the robber exchanged shots and the robber was struck multiple times.
The Samaritan, possibly be a responsible working person, was on his way to work and was running late. So he went on with the intention of reporting later, after the trauma of the incident subsides.
So the ROBBERY, ARMED is CCX. (Clear, Closed Exceptional)
The robbers death is HOMICIDE, JUSTIFIABLE. Also CCX.
Don't see any point in expending numerous hours on this. Even if suspect is identified, Foxx won't prosecute anyway.
The dead guy will probably become the subject of a Missing Person Report in a few days.

We have open carry. The Ranchers wear their 6 gun rigs whenever they are in town. Spurs too. I love it. While everyone is armed, they are also polite and law-abiding. If you tried to rob someone around here you would get hit from multiple directions and multiple calibers. God Bless America!

Honestly, sounds like this guy was getting robbed and got into a gunfight with the robber using a gun he wasn't legally authorized to have. He then pitched the gun in the river (assuming this is where I think it is). Would he be swabbed for residue even if he was a victim?
This happened to a friend 40 years ago on the northside, he was walking through the alley at 3 in the morning with his dog, a guy jumped out from behind a dumpster and said give me your stuff, he had a large knife in his hand. The friend pulled his .32 Walther and shot him a few times and kept on walking.

Good story! Not knowing the facts, as a retired old guy, I just have a few questions:
Is the "victim" a real victim or was he the robber and was shot by the "real victim" before the "real victim" expired. Easy enough to explain away. Commits an armed robbery, victim was armed also and got off a shot to the offender's leg. During the canvas was anybody awake at 4:20 am and did anyone hear any shots??? The likelihood of a vigilante being in that part of the city, at that time in the morning and saw what happened???? The alleged bad guy has no police record, does the victim. Why was the victim in that neighborhood?? "Just asking for a friend".
Could be legit, but since we don't know all the facts, I just thought of these questions.
Paul Kersey would never drive around the city in a raised Jeep printed with blue lives matter punisher skulls, or a grunt style Smedium dry fit shirt. Need No Stinking Badges!!!!!!!

A big reason this isn't happening more often is scarcity and high price of decent ammo.
Not going to waste it for someone else's problem when one might need it to defend the few people one actually cares about.
It's obvious the victim who ran off and heard multiple shots fired came back got a gun and killed the sob or when he got to where he ran off to told someone who had a gun and killed the sob. Or the victim killed the sob but doesn't have a foid or ccl then made up story about running away hearing multiple shots fired. Like anybody knows there's a 90% chance to get away with killing someone in this town
