Mayor Lori Lightfoot is not abandoning her controversial plan to lower the threshold for speed camera tickets. But she’s lowering the boom slowly — with a 44-day warning period.
The crackdown that became a focal point for aldermanic critics of the mayor’s $12.8 billion budget begins Jan. 15.
That’s when warning notices start going out to motorists caught driving 6 mph to 10 mph over the posted speed limit. The grace period lasts until March 1.
Only then will speeders start receiving $35 tickets in the mail — but with an additional warning notice for those motorists if they have no prior history of speeding.
Lightfoot’s bad news budget assumes $68 million in additional revenue in 2021 from “enhanced fine enforcement initiatives.”

Maybe she can collect fines on all the city stickers missing from CTU teachers living out of the city.

I don’t get it. Hasn’t it always been that if you drive over 5mph of the posted speed limit you get flashed? So how is that lowering the threshold?
The dwarf is going to have to open the city to get people out of their homes to increase traffic flow, get the kids back to school, and allow kids back in the parks; otherwise what’s the point of speed controls by schools and parks if people are locked down and kid’s shuttered?

Simple solution. Just take the plares off your car. It's not like we can chase anyway.
I thought in Illinois the law only allowed for speed cameras at or within a defined distance of a school or park? CPS is closed but I guess parks are not.
So we fine people for going 6 mph over the limit but we don’t fine people for shooting or jacking people.
In NYC DeBlasio lowered the speed limit to 25 mph to make it easier to catch people. It has also caused gridlock. Even turtles are in danger of exceeding the limit.
$68M? At $35 per ticket, that's nearly 2 million tickets over 10 months.
How many cars/drivers are there in Chicago?

Yet Lightfoot continues to give/hand out all kinds of big money to the community for all kinds of bs projects.
I will conscious drive like a snail down every street so that this city and 'mayor' does not get one more cent out of me. And a year from now, all fines incurred by (reckless), 'poor and hurting' drivers from certain zip codes will have their penalties excused because 'they need a fresh start...'

I retired in early 2020 and have a second home in another state.
My travel in Chicago is limited to the 3 block stretch to get to the Kennedy Xway when coming and going.
Only other travel within Chicago is about a 1 mile drive to Niles/Skokie to shop for food.
If you get a ticket, shame on you.
I actually hope they triple the camera fines and fund our pension with the proceeds.
Bust outs need to have skin in the game too, can’t put everything on property tax payer.
Our mayor removed red-light cameras because the wrong people were getting the tickets, the poor. Expect the same thing here.
When I head down Ewing Avenue and Indianapolis Boulevard, to purchase gasoline and cigarettes and avoid Illinois taxes, I must navigate past two speed cameras. I always make way for those that want to pass me and many vehicles bear out-of-state license plates. When I see the camera flash I always wonder how many of these out-of-state drivers pay up when they receive the demand letter?
The media should inquire just how much money the City is owed!

certain demographic, who is left paying the bills around here?

Which brings up another question......at locations bearing the money traps,
how many actual accidents happened which would demand the placing of
said money traps? You know, to “protect the children”........
Certain people rack up all sorts of tickets and fines then their car gets booted or impounded, they next claim bankruptcy to get their vehicle back, next they complain that they can't get loans because of racism, and after they complain they drive home 20 miles over the speed limit and it all starts again.

Wasn't the city urged to go easy on red light and speed camera tickets scofflaws because they were disproportionately affecting minorities....

Don't worry, folks and peoples will be exempted as soon as it is shown that more of them have been ticketed than their representation in the general population. Revenues for the program will then plummet.

Pay attention to the signs and road marking and you won't get a ticket. Pay attention to the camera location. Once you go past a certain distance from the camera hit the gas and stick your middle finger up. That's how I never got a ticket.

LMAO do ya think they'll catch on if I'm seen constantly parked on the side of the road before and after work putting on and removing my plates hahaha or can I claim it's a 'secret study' pilot program bo

It’s not so far fetched, when I went to the bank for some cash to build my 80,000 square foot mansion I made a power point explaining that even though I only make around 100g in 2020 that I plan on making another 600 million in new income for 2021 and hey if I don’t they can just add my missed payments to my 2022 bill because I plan on making 900 million in 2022. Now yer talkin. Admit it or not, nothing is more important than money, ceptin' maybe power. People don't really matter so a new system of fines would work.
People will be fined according to the severity of the crime. No more jail. Those who can't pay will be forced to "work" off the debt. Arbeit macht frei.
Well Prior to Covid, we used to come into the city for some fun. After hearing this, we will not even waist our time coming into this speed trap death row. Now they lose both ways.

Funny on the "remove your plates" comment because I literally do just that.
Rumor is a study was done that showed most only speed between 5-9 miles per hour over posted limits in Asian , Caucasian and HispanicsX neighborhoods . This was done by a Ravist politician that wants to punish safe drivers . Remember Lori uses campaign funds as her chauffeurs disobey red light cameras and speeding cameras .
No the racist is out to get Asians , Caucasians and Hispanic X neighborhoods with fines .
Her secret study revealed Asians , Caucasians and Hispanics usually drive 5-9 miles over the limit and unlike the African Americans pay fines .
So she forgave all fines when she took office , mostly AA . Now wants to lower the violations to 6 mph , a way to fine , tax law abiding citizens of Chicago. . She is Racist .
