Here Comes the Heat!
Chicago has had its fair share of tornadoes, severe storms and wildfire smoke this summer, but the region has managed to avoid many heat headlines so far.
That might not last much longer, according to NBC 5 Storm Team [...].
The intense “heat dome” across the south and southwest will begin migrating to the north and east next week. This will bring the second stretch of days in the 90s this summer for the Chicago area, and maybe the hottest days of 2023 so far.
While it doesn’t look like next week will break record highs, the added humidity could be dangerous.
Memories of 1995 and hundreds of dead bodies stacking up at the morgue rise to the surface. Perhaps the body-snatchers will put up extra shifts because no one is going to want to pay the wagon crews D-3 (or E-3) scale.
In any event, stay hydrated and cool if you can. We're all wearing an extra twenty pounds of kevlar and equipment, so take it easy.
Perhaps we'll post an over/under for the later portion of the week when the crime numbers climb.

OMG!!!! Al Gore, Greta Thunberg, A.O.C. & the Dems were right on target with global warming. We didn’t listen so now we will be slowly roasted to death. But you can extend our time on earth by a few days by turning your thermostats up.
They probably don't even have body bags in wagons anymore. If you need one you'll have to go to the firehouse to get one.

Get ready for the beaches turning to shit, ( like they are not already). These animals will stay out till all hours of the night because mamma ain't got no air conditioning. Plus the streets will be filled with fire hydrant parties..(which eventually turn into shell casings and crime scenes) good luck trying to turn them off. Beware Water Dept, you just might get shot at like the bambulances.

These weather persons are nuts! I remember back in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s it would hit 100+ often in the summer. Now it never happens. In fact I don’t remember the last 100 degree day. I was watching Tom Skilling back in January and he posted record highs and lows for the day. It was 67 degrees on a January day 1895. The earth constantly changes. Tom Skilling may be the only one that doesn’t talk “climate change” and just does a great detailed forecast. The weather channel is relentless with climate change BS.
What are they going to do when school starts in a few weeks?? Gee, the teachers will complain, it's sooo hot, it's unsafe, I cant think. Zoom learning till further notice, while they sip their drinks in the Caribbean.

1995 was my rookie year. I spent every day of that heatwave on a wagon or paper car. Back then we were the body snatchers...We would pick up 1, or 2 out of roll call, then wait for another then head down to the ME office. Thank G-d for the Red Cross. They served us bottled water and box lunches while we waited in line at the ME office to drop off the stiffs. Otherwise we would have had no lunch. When that was done we headed back to the district and picked up more bodies.

I remember 1995, and the morgue using refrigerator trucks to stack the overflow…provided by LaGrou. They’re the same outfit that provided the refrigerator trucks for the Taste. Soylent Green anyone?

We are going to set more high temperature records in the Western Midwest because it is a drought year. Probably nottoo many in Illinois though. High temperature records are set in the drought years like when they were set during the "Dirty Thirties" as there was a multi year drought from Texas all the way North to Canada.
Why? There is less water to evaporate and cool the air during the day. A little water provides a whole lot of air cooling when it evaporates.

Why would they? Police haven't handled bodies for many years.

It doesn't look so bad as far as the heat is concerned, hot but no triple digits. But it will be humid they say. 88 Tuesday, 90 Wednesday and Thursday, then high 80s Friday. The idiots haven't been quite as bad as I had hoped for so far this year. Perhaps they can redeem themselves with a few hotter days.
I hope these new PPOs have all learned to do 0110 reports…and can face working in a hot squad car with little or no AC. Welcome to the reality of the CPD. The recruits from the last few classes are soft as apple-sauce.

Growing up in the 50s, it was hot all the time in the summer. We were out in it and played baseball. When it got way too hot, we sat in the shade and played pinochle and drank cold sodas, and ate ice cream. It was a bonus if somebody turned on their sprinkler or somebody’s parents squirt, your ass with a hose in August we’d walk to the alleys and steal tomatoes from the garden is next to the garage and juicy.
I remember some of those poor people like it was yesterday.

Dear god what are you talking about? So it’s going to be in the 90’s a few days. It’s completely normal. It’s always like that in the summer. This summer it’s been mild. 30 years ago it was in the 100’s frequently. Stop with the “sky is falling.” Everything will be just fine. The new kids will survive
