Judicial Overreach
So at Branch 43/44 the other day, the judge confiscated three phones from officers attending court and held the phones until 1600 hours.
No bail was set for the phones.
Now, if the officers were playing Candy Crush or talking on the phones or texting with the annoying notification chimes, yeah, the judge is right to be a bit irritated. And he should correct the officers behavior in his courtroom. But if our wives or children were trying to get in contact with us in an emergency, we'd be more than a little angry at the judge.
We'd hardly care, except the judge spent the day granting every single defense motion or continuance, while denying the State the same courtesy. Just what you'd expect from a libtarded former public defender. This is a daily occurrence from what we're told.
At the very least, if we had to hang around waiting for our property, you can bet that we're getting paid for every minute we spent there.

Matter of time really. I’ve seen coppers constantly play games on their phones at court. Just sit there. If you got an emergency you step out and handle it. Show some respect even if you receive none in return. That’s called integrity.

That judge is horrible. Completely against anything resembling fair and impartial. Hates police, isn't afraid to show it, dismisses cases all the time. For zero reason. It took 75 years to get to this point.
It will take another 75 years to straighten this out, even if you started tomorrow.
Hopefully he gets victimized by one of the very animals he sets free on bond. Perhaps getting yanked from his Lexus as a “fo-fie” is pressed to his temple will facilitate a much needed epiphany.
SCC, unfortunately this is the new age of policing. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve witnessed officers oblivious to their surroundings due to being glued to their phones. I completely understand that there are times we must attend to our children, spouses, or other matters via our phones. However these officers are more concerned with social media and selfie pictures rather than anything work related. Times have changed and so has the department. All I can say is stay safe boys and girls.
If those three officers were in court because they initiated the arrest then it's their fault because coppers should not be locking up anyone nowadays. I can understand an arrest on signed complainrs by a third party, but this will be a lesson learned. Fuck the courts and judges.
Here is how you fix the situation.
You NEVER make another arrest or write another ticket.
If you do get called to court go IOD a day or 2 or BETTER YET, a month before you have to go to court.
It worked for me.

Boy how times have changed. I remember sitting in a jury room as a young copper nervously awaiting trial and the Englewood Rangers were always involved in a card game that always got raucous and filled with laughter. The state’s attorney had to come into the room and plead for a little decorum which was always met with more laughter and eye rolling. I knew at the time they were in the wrong but we had shared a bond even though we worked different districts that you didn’t break. And now those same officers would be treated like criminals because a judge has an axe to grind. Too bad.
The stress would’ve made me fall out in court. Call a bambulance, a Sgt., and my lawyer.

A copper worth his or her salt would’ve looked him dead in the eyes and said something to the effect of “uh, yeah…. No, that won’t be happening” before walking out. I never understood those coppers who cowered in the presence of supervisors, judges or politicians. Made nervous small talk, giggled like school-aged girls, hung on their every word or snapped to attention to do their bidding. GTFOH!

Even better is not going to court. I haven’t been there since 2018 and when I do get notified I have the Sgt put me in as unable to attend. This job and court are for suckers. I’m about to start and nice 8 week medical stint and will continue to use and abuse it till my IOD surgery takes me to retirement in 2025. You can have this job, it’s absolutely awful.

Are you nuts? You are saying the officer should go to their station to call 911 to DOCUMENT that a judge took their phone after the officer disrupted the courtroom using their phone?? You are either still on probation or you are the next in line for a merit promotion above your current rank. First, the judge can take your phone if you use it in court. It's called "contempt of court". The judge could also have you arrested and put in jail for contempt of court. Second, any officer who would call 911 to "document" such an event would be on the front page of the newspaper for being an idiot because 911 is only to be used for emergencies, not to "document" an event such as this (yes, I know people call 911 for non-emergencies, but the police should know better.)
