Park District Scandal

Look! Accountability (on a small scale):

  • The Chicago Park District’s inspector general has recommended firing 25 employees caught in an investigation of loans they got from the federal Paycheck Protection Program.

In a new report, interim Inspector General Alison Perona said an ongoing investigation by her office has grown from 26 cases involving employees who got the loans to help business owners struggling during the coronavirus pandemic to “sustained findings” against 114 workers as of June 30.

Now do the exempts.

Just out of curiosity, how many inspectors general [corrected] are there in city government? Seems like every bureau has one. Along with full staff and such, we're betting these offices account for tens of millions of taxpayer dollars.

The Fed IG's say this is like shooting fish in a barrel; or so I'm told. The point is, are they going to go after the protect schemers?

An audit should be done on everyone living in Illinois. I’m ok with the rest of the country too.

Getting a park district job is like the ascension into heaven, especially after retiring from the city to get that 2nd pension. The district is the creme dela creme of Machine jobs.

As soon as the migrants get their emergency slave labor work permits the parks will look like meticulously manicured golf courses and park district money will be freed-up put in shoe boxes 10% for the big guy.

A little pilfering here, a little pilfering there, a bit of pilfering everywhere.

Yes, it does all add up.

So, pay your property taxes.

Or we come and take your property.

Makes perfect pilfering sense to those whose profession is pilfering.

So did all these stressed out over worked park employees have these side hustle businesses going all along and added this PPP perk to their bottom line or did the time off for the Rona give them the idea for a scam business?

How many park employees have a side business?

Firing was only recommended. Bet it never happens.

And so what if it does? That should be the minimum. Why aren't these criminals:

1) getting criminally prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Chicago?

2) forced to pay back the money they've stolen?

I wonder what percentage of .gov workers are responsible for the fraud ? Seems like the word on how to do it spread quickly as how to do it.

Hey SCC-
How about a post about this little tidbit?

https://chicago.suntimes.com/2023/7/26/23809232/former-cpd-official-accuses-top-cop-retaliating-against-her-headed-investigation-led-suspension

Tina Skahill has made MILLIONS off the city since she RETIRED and was rehired back by the department in various roles. And now she claims she was the "victim" of "retaliation" because Waller had the balls to call her on her bs decisions and the shady deals she made with Brown the Clown? Give me a break. This is ego and greed on display.

Her antics of screaming, finger pointing, and thinking that talking faster and louder than everyone else makes her right are legendary. She drove this department to ruins with Brown in the passenger seat. Congrats to Waller and whoever else had a hand in her leaving. Good riddance to bad garbage.

Fact: both Eric Carter and his DJ’ing-on-the-medical wife both got PPP loans each for over 20k for each being the sole employee of their fictitious private security companies. Look it up on the google machine, not difficult to locate. Both criminal and “unethical” per the City’s ethic’s exam. Also unethical were the 8 extra award ribbons that Carter wore on his chest 24/7. Carter was a Lt or or an admin boss when he was awarded the ribbons which he paper jumped onto the hard work of the PO’s that Carter was the LT of and had nothing to do with the awarded incident. So glad that hater and his cheating/scamming wife are gone, but not glad that they’re collecting about 300k per year from our pension fund.

This fraud and the sexual misconduct Investigations are just the tip of the iceberg throughout the Chicago Park District.

Cross referenced employees and their arrest records. You'll find Park employees serving time and using their vacation, sick, and saved days to keep getting paid and not reporting their arrests and jail time. Then coming out after serving a stretch and still having their jobs.

Check into Thomas Hawkins, one of Berrios' boys. He went to jail and landed a parks job.

9:19am...You can bet the Democrat voters are the top percentage of city employees who pulled this scam. The parralles between high ranking members of the Chicago Police Department and the Biden administration are just striking. Two tiers of justice, investigative agencies turning a blind eye to the top rank and thier frat buddies, and plain old incompetence across the board.

You make a good point since it seems that every city agency - parks, schools, CTA, etc - has their own IG. Increase the size and budget of the city IG, eliminate the rest of these duplicate offices, and maybe we can cut the city budget some. On another note, I wish the police unions would try to negotiate this at contract time: CPD has to answer to IAD, COPA and/or Chicago IG. Why? There should be 1 investigative agency and nothing that allows multiple bites at the apple. (And I haven't even addressed the FBI, DOJ, CCSA.)

I only keep seeing these two names. Who else? I reported both names since it is a reward tied to it and a nice one at that. Neither came back to CPD. I also reported Anthony Riccio and Phil Cline. They were not CPD either. Who else? I’m trying to get paid to. I wish I knew somebody at the parks though. Do you know how much the award is. Free money

Tina Skahill is going to get paid. Waller was dumb enough to do Bob Boiks bidding, but he will be in federal court by himself. That’s who has his hand in CPD and is leaving these incompetent bosses to fend for themselves. How stupid. I don’t care what contract that was mentioned. All of Brown’s contracts went through legal. The work was done. That’s that. Every superintendent, but especially McCarthy and Weis, brought in outside vendors. That’s a trend for outsiders. What Waller was dumb enough to do was leave a paper trail that leads right back to him and can be legally proven without a reasonable doubt to be just what she said. She did lead the investigation into him when he made everyone in the room, especially the women uncomfortable with his rape statements. You have the same guy with over 50 brutality beefs running CPD and you wonder what’s wrong. We don’t need anymore outsiders or bosses that are just liked running CPD. I work in legal, so I’m not adding info just because.
