Subcontracting Background Checks
Remember when they used to send actual detectives to do background checks? They came to your house/apartment, interviewed you, ran through your application step-by-step? Not so much any more:
- Kentech appears to have farmed out some of it's background check stuff to a call center overseas or something. Got a call about one of my Marines who listed me as a supervisor. Couldn't pronounce anything properly, couldn't comprehend the idea of the military reserve not being a full time job, (and kept calling it a company). And I had to explain twice to her that the candidate and I, do in fact, have the same first name Michael. Literally spelled it phonetically because she was surprised we had same common first name. Definitely wasn't a retired detective
- I spoke to him (the candidate) and he said he does have an investigator, so this call center is only doing some of the work apparently

So CPD is paying India to do candidate background checks?
In 2014 I was processing for “the job” and I had a detective assigned to me he came over to my apt, politely rifled through my mail, did a quick peek in my bedroom and bathroom and sat down at my kitchen table as we went over my file. Took about 45 minutes maybe an hour. We sipped coffee together.
Lad down the street from where I live was recently telling me he’s processing and upon asking him if his investigator came out he didn’t know what I was talking about nor did he know what a KenTech was he just told me he gets e-mails telling him about the next step. He’s at the final power test in which he should get an academy date if he passes. Unless the home visit is the final card but I don’t remember it being that way. I definitely contend this is true.

CPD has
about 20 sworn police officers and 20 civilians who do the background checks. There are 2 incompetent ex CPD supervisors who oversee the operation.
There is not a “real hard line” standard as to who gets hired or not. Depends on the investigator’s competence and attitude toward the person trying to get hired.
If asked…The 2supervisors will give you different answers as to whether the candidate should be hired or not.
The investigators do not go out to see the candidate…ever.
So you want the ducks to waste their time on background checks. Last I heard there was severe shortage of police in general and especially dicks. On second thought given the awful clearance rates maybe background checks would a better expenditure of their time.

When I got hired in 94 the detective came to my house and spoke to my neighbors. Before my daughter was hired by Naperville P.D., their detectives spoke to me, my wife, and went up and down the block like they were trick or treating. Guess they don't really care anymore, they are that desperate for people.

I came on in 95 and they never came to my house or talked to my neighbors. I got a phone call one day a Sunday about Noon, and was asked to come down to personnel for an interview at 11th/State. I was there for about 45 minutes. I asked if I could bring my girlfriend with, and he said yes. She sat outside the office, and they never even bothered to speak with her.
Lowered standards? It seems they were pretty low back then...They hired me, didn't they? Now I am recently retired, and I have standards. I would not be a member of any organization that would have me as a member. I even quit the FOP.

FTOs are dropping patches left and right. Recruits are the worst in decades. All of them want CPD desk Jobs, school, caps, and academy instructor after probation. They have these shared goals in the academy to stay away from patrol and streets after cycles. We have a cesspool of emotional, sheltered, scared recruits coming.
