Taken to its logical extreme, this makes perfect sense:
The Fraternal Order of Police President in Chicago proposed Thursday to use the lobbies and open hallways in City Hall to house illegal aliens. How does that sound?
Currently, hundreds of illegal aliens are living in district police stations. As it turns out, Chicago police officers are tired of babysitting them. Catanzara said the situation is ridiculous. Migrants are using the police stations for their mailing address. How permanent is this arrangement supposed to be?
A couple points:
(1) Ever been to many suburban or out-of-state police stations? Their lobbies are tiny, barely the size of some living rooms. They're secure and the cops are behind bulletproof plexiglass. The "open lobby" designs of Chicago stations are tactically unsound and we could spend hours demonstrating how and why.
(2) It is a fact that these overcrowded conditions are unsanitary and disease vectors. In our lobbies alone, we've had chicken pox, TB, measles, coughs-of-unknown-origin, not to mention colds, flu and COVID. We have reports of public intoxication, drug use, drug sales, sex offenses, fleas, lice, scabbies. Any private building would have been shut down by OSHA months ago, but hey, screw the cops.
(3) They're getting mail there? They're residents? That's a whole other can of worms that the ACLU is going to start whining about shortly. Combine that with the illegal and unlicensed businesses they're running nearby....
It's going to get worse as winter set in. It's going to get worse as the Convention approaches. And once they throw COVID restriction into place in the next month or so, it's going to be damn near intolerable.
SIDE NOTE: We're going to start deleting the comments that are blaming Catanzara for the illegals. He didn't send them, didn't house them, can't move them - it isn't his police station. He can file and encourage officers to file grievances, but he has no power to settle them, enter sanctions against the city, force BJ to do his bidding - and we can't strike. OSHA has refused to take action and most government buildings aren't subject to OSHA oversight anyway.
A lawsuit might work, but in Cook County with a Cook County jury?

I heard that they are sending a group of migrants back to 010 after they were moved out during the phony sex scandal. If I was the commander I would instruct all three watches to deny them entry until an apology is given to all the officers in that unit from the mayor, copa, and the media. Until that happens none of them get back in.
CFD resources is more tapped more than usual. Bad enough these ambulances and medics are being ran into the ground on a daily basis but throw in a Chicago winter where these illegal invaders never experienced. CFD will be so depleted sending ambos to these stations you can forget EMS coverage in your neighborhood. Hope grandma isn’t having a stroke or our wives don’t fall down the stairs God forbid our kids are medically in trouble. Help won’t be there for at least 15 minutes.

Thus, the welcome mat for these migrants is laid at every entrance to every structure owned by the public.
Were there none to object with force to any migrants who dare to 'trespass' upon or within said public property, the last choice of, these migrants, for shelter would be police stations.

100 averaging in every district and the mayors office keep piling them in with no end in site. 3 buses arrive daily , including at the airports . No plans on any “real” shelter space opening . McCormick place is not an option and neither is city hall .
This is bigger than FOP & bigger than CPD. Wear gloves , masks and keep distance . Medical teams can’t keep up with the districts medical needs and CFD is being called for more Ambo runs than necessary.
School Buildings are Public Property. Most High Schools are under used. Cafeterias, Locker Rooms, Showers, and Office space (to Document & Process) are there. I’ve been to many suburban police departments and first you have to get buzzed in just to enter the lobby. Next you have to speak to personnel through a speaker while they are protected by glass. It’s the way every station should be. But what makes the most sense is they are only open to the public Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm. There’s no reason to be open 24/7! If something is that pressing call 911. Everything conducted at the desk is non-emergency. This is common sense. Saves money through manpower. But of course Chicago doesn’t do anything that makes common sense.

Chicago has been a welcoming city for legal immigrants all the way back to the Hull House, founded in 1889. However, in 1985 Mayor Harold Washington issued an edict that established Chicago as a sanctuary city. The same edict prohibited city employees from enforcing federal immigration laws or notifying federal immigration officials of anything related to illegal immigration.
Subsequent mayors (Orr, Sawyer, Daley, Emanuel, Lightfoot) all agreed with the edict and BJ is following suit.
