How "Merit" Begins
SWAT is legit, right? For years we heard about how it was the only legit Unit in the Department with strenuous physical standards and rigorous marksmanship tests. You want the best trained and best shooters in a Unit like SWAT.
Funny thing though....supposedly an FOIA request revealed this:

Please read Department Employee Resource Directives E05-15 and E05-25 for details regarding the SWAT application process.
In short, I'm asking all Exempts to consider who would be an excellent candidate for the Team. We've made some adjustments that maintain the integrity of the process, but allow us to still identify and draw the strongest candidates without lowering the standard.
We aren't making it easier, per se, just realizing that we were potentially passing over some that would legitimately make excellent Operators. This should correct that process, capture those qualified individuals and allow us to expand the Team according to the Superintendent's long-term plan.
Please pass this along to your Lts so the interest can be sparked, as its a short urn around. We are also sending out SWAT members to speak at roll calls this week in case there's any questions.

This - if legit - is horseshit. If you didn't take the tests and you didn't pass the tests, you shouldn't be there, especially given the types of situations SWAT responds to. But this is how "merit" is born.

Swat is a joke always has been. Secret tests in the side room at Homan. OH that guy took the physical test already oh ok. There is a reason they finish in last place in every swat competition they have been in. Best and brightest more like worst and dimmest.
Maybe their 4 time merit promoted commamder can shed some light.
I think one solution should be to assign the selected superior candidates all to one team. They can demonstrate their superior competence, and not be weighed down by all the normal competition.

A Fire department 1.5 million dollar 2016 Tower Ladder truck (TL #16) caught fire on South Lake Shore Drive last week.

I thought this was common knowledge, they were letting people who couldn’t pass the test work in the unit in like a PPO training status, learning the ropes, exercising and practicing their shooting until they actually could pass test. At this point, who gives a shit.
Totally agree. It’s absolute bullshit and I’m sure he got “pressure” from above to get somebody’s somebody on the team that didn’t deserve to be there. He should’ve said no and taken the demotion. That seems to be the problem, the exempts don’t have backbones anymore. They don’t stand up for what’s right b/c they won’t risk their spots. How many exempts disagree with what’s going on with the department now, will talk endlessly how fucked up the stuff coming out of 35th street is, but never speak up and stand up for us. It’s Because no one will risk their spots. Even the ones I really thought might say something, quietly retired and went away without a peep. Disheartening and disgusting. Shows there’s no REAL leaders at the top. REAL leaders would put the good of the many ahead of the good of themselves.
I’d like to say that Sean may not be perfect, but he has helped out a lot of coppers along the way. I witnessed some first hand. I’m not a big Sean groupie, but I believe he is a good man with good intentions that did try his best while navigating the fucked up department that is the CPD.

The next thing that should be exploited is who they pick to attend these Management schools like Northwestern, Boston, FBI school, etc. They will only send the merits that they eventually want to make exempts. Look at all the ones that have went over the last year and a half, it’s amazing. All were merit selections and within months were shipped away to attend these trainings while veteran Lts with actual experience get skipped over. They just sent two more there right now while people who are actually qualified, have law degrees and degrees from actual universities get fucked.
Without knowing the context or having any idea what this emails pertains to you can infer exactly what you did. However that’s not what his email meant nor was it what it was used for.
They were throwing away decent candidates who just needed little more firearms time to get to the top tier. Guys who wanted to be there and needed to master the skill. So they developed a 2 tier system that allows them to retain good guys meeting a lower standard then shortly there after with some focused training satisfy the top requirements to be on the teams. I am not a SL lover , but this in fact was a great program and idea to get the teams qualified candidates.

That email is 100% legit. I’ve seen it. And here’s some more crooked ass shit the Elf on the Shelf did… he put into motion several people getting promoted to bomb dog handler who didn’t even take that part of the test or who did take that part but didn’t make the rank order list. This was off the last test. Seems the feds came calling for people to put in a class and there were no more people on the bomb dog list. So they figured they’d just not tell the feds the truth and send them names off the patrol dog list Here’s the best part…so you know how FOP and Catanzara always claim they fight for fairness with promotion tests? Always on HR’s ass to be on the up and up? Well they actually went along with the Elf’s scam! They ok’d HR (Landowski and Company an HR also were in on these illegit promotions) letting people get promoted to a spot THEY DIDNT TEST FOR OR RANK FOR. Why the hell would fop allow them to circumvent a promotional process?? To keep Loughran and others from looking incompetent to the feds? What was fop promised or get in return?? Fop is totally dirty with this shit cuz over 20 POs filed grievances and Catanzara had the board kill them. The fop board was dumb enough to discuss all this and it was transcribed and a copy saved. Smell the rat? It rhymes with Jcat. The IG and IAD have it. So does the consent decree people.
Oh yea, all this is fully and completely documented as I’m one of the people who filed a grievance. Same K9 guy that uncovered the city’s covid vaccine religious exemption put all this together. Yes, it’s all spelled out in Grievances, foias, emails, text messages and the fops very own meeting minutes. They all conspired to make promotions that were illegitimate. Kinda like when they made the supes driver a sgt when he didn’t take the test. THIS kind of corruption goes on all the time on CPD but most do nothing to stop it. This time they got called on it and they’re scrambling to do damage control. It’s a Labor lawyers wet dream. FOP has kinda deep pockets. City def has deep pockets.
Swat is still the most legitimate unit on this department . You’re making a nothing burger out of an e-mail that allowed guys who were on the cusp to not be lost back in patrol, the failure rate was like 60-70% on the handgun quals alone , it wasn’t merit. Nothing near merit. His email pertains to a new scoring system that didn’t allow guys to make the teams If you don’t meet the top score, but if you hit their new lowered qualification standard minimum , you were allowed to train and have a time limit to get to that top score. While you were training you’re not allowed on jobs in the stacks , you’re basically a perimeter junkie or vehicle operator/equipment logger. It was actually a very good idea to keep qualified guys who wanted to be there in order to give them an opportunity.

Greetings! I am originally from the U.K. I'm a long time reader and fan of this blog. I respect what you guys and girls go through out there in the mean streets. I've noticed over the years that the CPD Swat Team gets a lot of flack on this sight. Just how good or bad are they in regards to training and skills?
While I wouldn't expect them to be in the same category as Britain's Elite SAS (Special Air Services) how would CPD's SWAT fare in a friendly war games match with SAS? I would hope that they would at least be competitive. Stay safe out there and thanks SCC for all that you do

NO bicycle classes that certify you to be forced for downtown shit shows.
(There are some recruits in the academy who are given the heads up to intentionally fail the "bicycle test" during training. Once you have passed the test you are now at the mercy of the department for the rest of your career and MUST take out a bike whenever you are told.)
Unlike us, the Fire department gets extra pay bumps for every certification they participate in.
Extra 5% pay for Haz-Mat certification. Extra 5% for EMT training etc.

I remember the Elf when he was a Sgt. on midnights in 010, always bragged about his connections and making it big one day and he sure did. I hated that MF coward. I stood up to his ass once when I caught him talking shit behind my back, he was scared because he knew I never took shit from stupidvisors. He knows the merit game and knows about test cheating. He always walked around like if he was the poster Chili for this stupid department.
Don’t worry, the Marine Unit also used to be legit as well and only promoted in rank order off of the testing process. This time around, not so much. The exempt ranks through Special Functions, same division as SWAT, felt it necessary to put people in training as management outside of rank order. Some of those are already gone, denying an opportunity to those in rank order at a chance of promotion. A FOIA of that decision making process would be very interesting.
Soon to be authorized will be camouflaged skirts for those swat members who are gender fluid

They were giving extra points during testing for doing additional baseline requirements (additional pull ups for example). This effectively excluded most females from scoring high in the physical qualifications and excluding them from selection. Elf on the shelf was not happy about this but was forced by legal affairs to make the change. Has there been a female SWAT operator yet? This would have been right in Tactical Barbie's wheelhouse (remember her?).
They better find some Boss's and coppers with balls to go after these armed robbery crews in 012 and 014. SWAT has always been the most insulting unit to get to. They make candidates go through the whole process while spending lots of money on ammo and in the end, it’s always been a phone call. At least with all of the other phone call units at homan sq, those are, and have always been, just phone calls. But SWAT makes po’s go through that bs for 2-3 years with out of pocket expenses and then a phone call. Most of the guys who work there are good so it’s not a knock on them. But the process is a big joke.
Seems like anything ol Lough touches is just trash. Needs to retire for the sake of the department.
The merit process in CPD will always creep in and must be defended against. These police officers who decide to take the course of "politician" are the spoilers of all things good. They want to be accommodated to their wishes regardless of their personal qualifications.
Remember the story of the former Navy seal that couldn't make the marine unit? Or the former Army K-9 handler that couldnt make it to the CPD Canine unit? Every unit in the department is tainted by the stench of merit picks by now, so why not SWAT?
And never forget that promotional exam during the Cline era where the merits didn't even have to take the second half of the test? The second half was the hardest part btw...
CPD management is loaded to the gills with double, and triple merit picks. Most if not all of the wrong people are in charge.
Back in the day, I interviewed for a few of these positions. I got the feeling the person I was interviewing with didnt have anything but a cursory knowledge of the units' functions and primary resources. They had all the talk of a merit appointee down, but seemed to have no substance in core matters.
It is time for merit promotions to go away. But I doubt very much that they shall. These people weaken their respective units, and weaken the department overall.

Can u please let us know who the two were? They never announce that info, it’s usually hidden in some inbox message. As a veteran Lt, this post is right on the money. There are so many great Lts that have been doing the job for years, some even over a decade and never get selected or even considered for the “senior management training.” Yet, the vast majority of merit Lts get to go to the training usually within their first year as a Lt and then bam straight up the ranks they go. It is an absolute joke and travesty how these exempts get made.

Actually the testing is very legit. No side tests like they did for Ed Johnson's kid to get on job. As far as the swat competition, yeah they were 36 out of 39 teams. They were actually in the top 10 until a graded scenario where a certain sgt, who never tried out and was brought in on a phone call, shot one of the judges standing in the cat walk wearing a neon vest, 3 times. Same sgt who falsified all his weapons quals for years, got caught and still nothing happened. Can't ever escape the Chicago corruption.
Well now with our new Meritintendant, you can expect merit to explode. Our actual meritintendant never passed a single promotional exam. How sad is that.

You’re worried about the wrong stuff my man. Yes the chosen ones that go to these programs are generally merit but they’re dumb as fuck and that’s why they get sent so they can put this on their resumès and hopefully someone will eat their bullshit. If you got a law degree or any other valuable degree from a reputable university these merit hacks got nothing on you. Outside of this fucked up department, these programs mean shit. Point out one exempt that’s been merit at sgt and lt that’s qualified to actually have a non-city/county/state job? There are none. If they land somewhere else after retirement it’ll be a govt job because the only standards for govt jobs are DEI.
Back in the day, Walter Vallee, who was the head of the Taskforce was giving the OK to start a SWAT Team. It was not called SWAT, it was called the HBT (Hostage, Barricade, Terrorist Team. Only Taskforce Officers who were allowed to take the Physical Test. If you passed the physical test you were allowed to work 60E (the War Wagon). The test consists of pushups, sit-ups, pull-ups, and running a mile in 9 minuets. A list was drawn up as to what place you scored, and the top scores were assigned to drive and/or operate 60E. There were 9 Officers who were permanently assigned. The other Officers, who passed the physical, were working in the Area's and if the need came up an Officer was detailed for the whatever time period needed (vacations, sickness, etc.). Even back then there was one Officer who worked steady midnights who couldn't fight his way out of a soggy twinkie. He was the only Officer assigned to 60E who did not pass the physical. This particular Officer could not run a block in 9 minuets, let alone a mile. All the other Officers were in very good shape and did remarkable well. Again, back in the day, the CPD operated a gym at 35th and Normal Ave (an old Army Reserve Building) and most of the PO's who worked in the Taskforce worked out regularly at the gym. In fact, we Taskforce Officers, got together with many of the 35th Street regulars and started the CPD Weightlifting Club. Every Officer who passed the physical worked out regularly at the gym. The only one who did not work out regularly was that particular Midnight Officer. So, you see boys and girls that CLOUT was alive and well back in the day. How do I know? I was the 3rd Officer assigned to work with him on midnights.

You’re really having a hard time with this. It’s probably time to move on with life. A couple of points.
Yes, there are 2 separate applications for 2 different canine roles. However, there was only 1 written test for canine which covered both dogs. You either passed the test or you didn’t. Now ask “How many people “legitimately” on this list literally had copies of the actual effin test? How many people already knew the scenario questions coming into the interview? How many people didn’t pass the physical fitness test, yet magically “passed”? What part of this process (through your rose colored glasses) did you consider legitimate?
Lastly, how about the Department just offer the actual test more often than every 7 - 8 years and then maybe they won’t exhaust the Explosive Detection Canine List and find themselves having to backfill the spots or risk losing the federal funding altogether?! What a novel idea.
You guys advocating for letting SWAT take bustouts are out of your mind. If you didn’t pass the test for whatever reason, thanks for playing and try again next time. Using your logic, I guess we should just put anybody (“merit” picks excluded of course) into Sgt, Detective, or lieutenant training, even though they’re not rank order and hope they’ll acquire the skills before they graduate class. Testing exist for a reason: meet a certain threshold, and you’re eligible for promotion. Don’t meet that threshold? No promotion if it means that much to you, hone your skills and try again next time. I had heard rumors about these assholes getting promoted to bomb K9 spots that didn’t take the test or rank for it. If it’s true as told, how the fuck was that allowed? Not only does it run completely contrary to everything the union pretends to stand for regarding fairness in Promotional processes, that sounds like it’s a documented slam dunk showing corruption in the upper ranks. Where did these people go with these bomb dogs? Airport? Mass Transit? Not only were these guys given spots they should never have, they potentially fuck up watch selection, day off group assignments , furlough picks and overtime, depending on their seniority. If this is all documented and not bullshit, it would make for a great lawsuit. Everyone who took that bomb dog test but didn’t rank should be offered the spot. And anybody who has been harmed because of people in their unit (who shouldn’t be there to begin with) reaping benefits because of seniority need to start the paper trail with grievances for anything that applies. And let’s name names SCC. Who are the people who got promoted but didn’t test for it? Can someone post those names? They also
need to be called out.

Two swat guys in attendance, not even sitting next to each other, but both in civilian clothing and wearing the green baseball cap(so everyone is aware there are badasses amongst us in the room). Our swat team must be mismatched like a mf’er, they both looked like cartoon characters(think pinky and the brain). Anyways, for lunch break as we’re walking to our cars one of the swat operators(proper title) speed walks out to his department issued squad. He grabs his green vest from the back and dons it over his civilian clothes(in front of everyone), then gets in the squad car and proceeds to eat his meal. He was not going to let this opportunity go to waste and wanted to let everyone in the parking lot know he was swat. After lunch you can hear guys in the room goofing on the clown.
It is time for merit promotions to go away. But I doubt very much that they shall. These people weaken their respective units, and weaken the department overall.

FLOP is useless and more than likely compromised. They let the city/department promote a handful of people to K9 who never sat for that part of the test or weren’t ranked high enough to make the eligibility list.
I believe J-Kitty said something along the lines of “hey, we helped a few guys get a good spot”. So they participated in completely violating department rules. They failed to enforce the very CBA they were elected to protect for ALL members. They dismissed the promotional process allowing the department to interpret it as they saw fit for their purpose at the time. What kind of message does that send to the rank and file? Better yet, what kind of message does that send to the city? Is every promotional list now okay to be disregarded when they want it to be? Interpreted to meet their personal agendas?
FACT: per the investigation by the guy who uncovered this scandalous shit (currently reading an email sent to the group of us who grieved it), there is one current bomb dog handler WHO DID NOT EVEN APPLY TO TAKE THAT PORTION OF THE TEST. HE DIDN’T TAKE THAT TEST. The others improperly promoted took that portion of the test BUT DID NOT RANK AS ELIGIBLE. How can FLOP, the Department and HR justify allowing this? Oh, you were told by the Feds that you were going to lose the federal funding? So lie to the Feds and tell them that you have eligible people ready to go? Meanwhile there were several dozen POs who actually took the bomb dog portion of the test that they could have pulled, even if they weren’t on the final eligibility list - they still had a score and could have been offered the opportunity.
No, instead Catanzara had to have his ego stroked and again be the most important part of the equation. He couldn’t stop pounding his chest and telling everybody he could how he got guys to K9. So a handful of people land in a totally undeserved spot while three times as many people grieve being harmed by it, only to have King John encourage the board to throw out the Grievances, which were already voted on to go forward by the grievance committee. And then there are the several dozen other POs who were harmed by this who did not grieve it.
All of this is 100% true, backed by extensive documentation shared by the guy in K9 who discovered it. When they caught them dirty at the onset, they tried to make it right for everyone before it grew legs, but HR and The Elf (now known to be in cahoots with FLOP) basically paid them lip service and still allowed this to happen.
This is no doubt in my mind that Catanzara got something in return for doing this. Perhaps something to do with him retiring before he got fired? Was he given a heads up to pull the pin before the hammer dropped? Anything is possible with these crooked bastards. So remember what your elected representatives at FLOP are capable of if/when you need their help resolving an issue.

I recall the Old HBT unit, now SWAT I guess. They were at a conference where lots of protestors were expected. We were staged in the lower garage basement of a hotel. They sectioned themselves off behind some temporary curtains and makeshift walls. The rest of us rabble (CPD) were cut off from their "elite" presence.
We played cards and watched movies on our down time and I think we had a better time because there was only silence from behind the curtain. Our side was full of laughing and loud talking.
I think it was the TABD conference in the early 2000's, and I was always surprised that CPD brass let that happen. Way to divide Boss...

SEPARATE application to test for each title code.
SEPARATE medical clearance needed in order to test for each title code.
SEPARATE questions asked at oral interview portion of test.
SEPARATE (pay attention here, it’s meat and potatoes time) FINAL ELIGIBILITY LISTS for each title code.
Passing the written portion of the test allowed you to move on to the physical portion. If you passed that you went to the Oral Interview where you were tested on one or both positions, depending on what you applied for. These rules were clearly laid out in SEPARATE Employee Resources and disseminated in SEPARATE AMC Messages announcing both portions of the test.
And it wasn’t pass or fail as you claim. Applicants were ranked by the interviewers (a whole nother story in and of itself… with FOIAs obtained on their “credentials”) in one of three ways. Go look up the employee resources for further explanation, but it is completely arbitrary to say the least.
So, in a nutshell, get off J-Kittys and the Elf’s nuts and come up for air. These assholes thought they would do what they always do… Until someone with balls uncovered it all and called them on it.
If you don’t think the tryout is legit you should try out. You’ll see. It’s the only legit unit on the department. We’re all still working for the city and subject to the nonsense but don’t hate on guys who want to be there. It’s a great team to be a part of full of great people who want to be there for the right reasons. Of all the units and people you could have a legitimate gripe with on this department SWAT ain’t it.

8 years in the Corp and my rifle never failed during 4 combat tours and numerous firefights. But you are a really call to duty hero.
They were throwing away decent candidates who just needed little more firearms time to get to the top tier. Guys who wanted to be there and needed to master the skill. So they developed a 2 tier system that allows them to retain good guys meeting a lower standard then shortly there after with some focused training satisfy the top requirements to be on the teams. I am not a SL lover , but this in fact was a great program and idea to get the teams qualified candidates.

All the swat leadership is merit, there is nothing legit about the team. I should know cuz I am on the team. You have some good sgts that care about their officers and others that care about getting made Lt. The swat officers are not political. They just do as they’re told and really care about backing you officers up.
I do agree that merit promotions have destroyed the team and Cmdr TL and LT AT, who are both merit, get the final say so on who comes on the team. For the most part the process is legit but during each selection process the training staff has pulled shenanigans that allowed their buddies on the team, even though there were better qualified applicants.
Cmdr TL and LT Torres will not stand for is haven’t my a woman on the team. Their egos and macho attitudes will not stand for it. A girl from the range tried out and she put most of the men to shame. TL was not having that. He purposely voted her off.
lol you’re a clown. Why is SWAT a joke? Because you couldn’t bang out 40 decent push ups? There are no secret tests. Every step of the process is online for anyone to see. And the competition you like to mention was almost a decade ago. It’s for the most part a whole new team of guys at this point.

I have it on good authority that SWAT will be going to the districts. The department is reaching crucial levels of low man power. First up on the chopping block is SWAT. You can’t keep that many police officers in a unit that doesn’t contribute anything in arrests or answering calls.
20 SWAT officers will be detailed to four districts, on all watches. I’m pretty sure it will not be in 001 or 018. High crime areas. SWAT will be a unit in name only. Once future SWAT Officer’s are trained, they will be kicked back to patrol to answer calls. This will make for faster response times for HBT jobs and better trained officers on patrol. District officers will be SWAT trained and available. Think in terms of CIT or Bike trained officers.
The perks to District SWAT Officers will be a take home car. SWAT issued vest, helmet and rifle. Additionally monthly training days and a special insignia for your uniform. No more green uniforms. Looks to military. The proposal will be for a uniform like LAPD or what the range officers wear.
PO MS in 018 made the marine unit training list with 3 years on the job, because you know. Didn't make the final appointment list, so she got herself reassigned to 017 commanders office.

I think that when officers are questioned about morale, the No. 1 subject that comes up is these alleged "merit" promotions that are handed out based on "who you know" and "who you blow"...2nd is how officers get to a unit.
As for you trigger happy Spec Ops wannabe's, you need to look deep inside yourself and ask yourself if you made a phone call or asked a favor to get there. I don't care if you went through the motions of interviews and shooting qualifications. CPD uses that veil for legitimacy in appearance only. Any fresh former military Marine, or Ranger member could likely shoot circles around you.

Actually the testing is very legit. No side tests like they did for Ed Johnson's kid to get on job. As far as the swat competition, yeah they were 36 out of 39 teams. They were actually in the top 10 until a graded scenario where a certain sgt, who never tried out and was brought in on a phone call, shot one of the judges standing in the cat walk wearing a neon vest, 3 times. Same sgt who falsified all his weapons quals for years, got caught and still nothing happened. Can't ever escape the Chicago corruption.

Stop spreading rumors. his was an old proposal under Johnson but he didn’t pull the trigger on it. I guess it just recently resurfaced when a boss at 35th street was tasked with getting rid of dead weight in specialized units. As always when a new Superintendent comes in they always ask on how they can beef up the districts. Nothing is set in stone, but it will be presented to Snelling along with other ideas.

Lots of trolls here trying to stir the pot. But remember no one in swat gets any more pay than any other PO. They do it because they want to. Hours suck, getting called out in the middle of the night blows. And yes waiting is a big part of it now, but if you haven't figured it out that waiting is what the police have to do now then there's nothing I can say to you. Instead of tearing down other officers why don't you come see for yourself. Like they said, they have a tryout every year because people aren't breaking down the door to go there. Too much work, horrible schedule, Terrible Commander (TL), but its mostly a good group of people to work with and you learn some good skills. Is it completely legit? Nothing in cpd is, but its the closest thing. As long as you have merit people in the chain of command who are beholden to their makers, then things get sideways. Thankfully it doesn't happen too often. TL was the worst about that. But it worked out for him, never came close to passing any test, but now a commander. Just like the majority of our command staff. I would just say if you have an interest in doing it, try it. If you want to see if the process is legit, try it and see. But being hateful towards a group of guys who work hard and do their jobs very well, its just weakens us all. They want us divided because we have no power when we are. CPD SWAT is not a very professional swat team despite their good intentions. They rate a 5 out of 10. Leadership is terrible, merit based. Training is below average compared to other major cities. Equipment is poorly maintained and not a priority. All the problems come from the lack of leadership or the fear of asking the chain of command for funding. You can’t move up if you don’t suck up. Just like everything else on CPD, all smoking mirrors.
The Chicago Bears need a “Merit” program so that they can maybe win a few games. Let’s see how about them automatically be given the points that the odds makers put up each game that will put them on the same playing field with the other NFL teams. The points can be posted right before the National Anthem.

Idleness is NOT to be confused with Readiness. Readiness is a combination of Responsiveness and Skill.
And Readiness can only be assessed when it is needed, after the fact.
True Readiness is mentally exhausting because you never know what awaits you on scene, and you hope ( and pray) that you have the skills and GUTS to deal with it.

They have lost their minds. They really talk like this bro. They refer to themselves as Green Ghosts because they operate at night like Seal Team 6. They actually compare themselves to apertures that can come and go.
One swat guy tried to tell me that they are on the same level as the seals. I just nodded my head and pretended to listen.
Say what you want but if the contest were between the British SAS and the CPD SWAT and I were a betting man, I'd put the house on CPD SWAT. They are the absolute best. All these other Tier One units could learn from them.

They were throwing away decent candidates who just needed little more firearms time to get to the top tier. Guys who wanted to be there and needed to master the skill. So they developed a 2 tier system that allows them to retain good guys meeting a lower standard then shortly there after with some focused training satisfy the top requirements to be on the teams. I am not a SL lover , but this in fact was a great program and idea to get the teams qualified candidates.

No worries on my end, I’m retired, bills are all paid, don’t drink, smoke, or do drugs. My head hits the pillow and I sleep well, knowing I never fucked over, a criminal or a co-worker. But it is apparent I hit a sore spot with you as you feel you have to defend your getting something undeserved. Shine on, and just keep telling yourself you deserve it……………but deep down, we know and you know, you don’t.

The perks to District SWAT Officers will be a take home car. SWAT issued vest, helmet and rifle. Additionally monthly training days and a special insignia for your uniform. No more green uniforms. Looks to military. The proposal will be for a uniform like LAPD or what the range officers wear.

In within limits of the city a marked squad car parked in front of one’s house is a risk not a perk/reward. Thats why ISP and County guys park their squads in our district lots. A vest can be purchased for $80 on line and probably better quality than anything the city would provide. Helmet only provides false sense of security, plus it provides protection against shrapnel only. Been tested numerous times. Round to the dome, face, neck etc that helmet ain’t saving anyone. Extra training days? So give the department your skills and time and not be compensated for it? Nah that just sounds like losing. Special insignia on uniform- this has got to be a joke or I’m just too jaded by this point…

Hours suck, getting called out in the middle of the night blows. I’ve seen SAS conduct ops overseas in theater. Lay off the sauce Sarge. CPD is nowhere near the caliber of SAS.
If everyone qualified to serve in an elite unit, it would not be an elite unit!
Service in an elite unit means ignoring the jealousy and envy coming from those who chose not to challenge themselves, or if they did accept the challenge of trying-out, simply did not meet the high standards.
