Arbitration "Mostly Win"
This is merely a summary. The full results are probably at the FOP site, or soon will be:
The raises are almost double what had been previously negotiated? D2A for numerous testable ranks, comparable specialization stipends similar to what CFD gets. Comp Time sellbacks.
All good....even great news.
It looks like the paternity leave is a dead issue for now and the annual retention bonus has become a one-time payment in 2024. Unmentioned in this graphic, any word on oversight compromises, loses or wins. We'll have to see what the final decision reads shortly.
So far, we'd call this a "mostly win." Nice job.

Im just glad I made it through the day without another axeman009 10/1. Lets see what saturday brings.
It’s def a win. But what about a 10 hour day for the whole dept?!! That would be having our cake and eating it too right? I agree that pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. But honestly, after enduring the past 5 years, it’s time to eat that fricken cake.
It’s about time we get paid stipends like the hero’s. What are we giving up though? You have to wonder.
Great. Sounds good. But what about days off being canceled vs volunteer? Double time pay? What is the deal with constant days off being canceled in general?
Nice job dudes! Took way too long, but oh well. Now sue to get residency lifted. Then get us the 12 hour day schedule.
No way BJ and his band of social justice terror sympathizers approves it. They hate you. Don’t you get it?
D2a should go to pilots, Marine unit and Mounted.
So the "Age 55" insurance deal stays the same.
So much for all the B.S. Rumors being spread.
What about the age penalty with the pension. I came on the job young at 23 and most of my class have retired already. I’m stuck here waiting to hit 55. I’m getting penalized for coming on young. A guy in my class did his 20 years, was over 55, retired and got his healthcare. I’m in my 31st year and still can’t leave. It’s not right and there’s plenty of people in the same boat as me. I’ve maxed out but can’t leave b/c of insurance. FOP should fight for this. It should be 55 OR 29 years to receive insurance. Or give us the option of paying a higher percentage to lock in the insurance younger.
No one is asking why all the sudden this is being given? My guess, the city is trying to apply a tourniquet to a head wound for retirement before the DNC. Or FOP has dirt on BJ. Either way 19p.
I didn’t hear j-cat say anything about our new work schedule. 10 or 12 hour day is the way to go. That’s one or two more movies I can watch on Netflix. It’s at least 4 more episodes of my current tv show I can knock out also!
What did we give up for that $2,500 bull shit retention bonus?
Pretty impressed, bravo!!
Why are coppers so flippin short sighted and greedy?? More money is not the answer. Why do you guys think what equals out to $5,000 a year is better than residency being lifted and modernizing our work schedule?
When are you gonna enjoy that money when your constantly getting your days off canceled?
One of the smartest aspects is that retention bonus. Bro’s are leaving on average in 26 months. Dropping that “P” and getting the hell out. $2,500 ain’t gonna change that. Keep working on it. Recruitment and retention are damn near impossible at this point.
Terrible! So, an officer with 20 OTJ just lost $17,500?!?
These idiots agreed to give everyone a one time $2500 retention bonus versus a $2000 yearly payment?!??
Come on you idiots!!
You get what you vote for!!
So I guess residency was off the table. Stroke.
Wow, way to screw over the canine guys.
Mark my words, there’s not enough money in the world that will save us. People are still refusing to come on this job. Well, quality candidates anyway. The 25 year guys, shit the 20 year guys are running away! Their gonna tell you to stick that retention check up your ass and are still leaving for a better life.
Awww that’s so cute!! FLOP is pretending to resemble an actual union. It’s nowhere near a real labor union, but it was an A for effort! Like all the kids getting a trophy even when they lost miserably.
Catanzara will begin patting himself on the back in 3…2…1. What a Numbskull.
Bunch of goofs! Why is money always your answer?! It’s a trap you mouth breathers!
How about a 10 hour day for the rest of us? It’s more days off! The only thing that heals you from this job is not being there. Nothing else.
Why isn’t rifle training on that list of stipends? I didn’t make my phone call and get rifle certified for nothing! My clout is not gonna be happy when she hears about this.
You go FTO’s!! Now maybe some quality coppers will take that test.
Paternity isn’t dead. He addressed it in a follow up video. You can use medical time like supervisors/fire. It’ll be retroactive to January 1st
Yea yea yea, but what about my 12 hour day with every other weekend off dammit?
RESIDENCY. Freedom or death. Everything else is moot point.
What about the COLA??
Cost of living is rising yearly 2x!!!
I want my COLA that was promised last spring!!!!!
There was no mention of parental leave after they said that we were getting it. That’s a big deal for a department with a high number of younger officers.
Your gonna need all that extra money to pay the 8% mortgage rate and $20,000 a year taxes on your 2 bedroom 1 bathroom ranch house in Edison Park. Losers.
You can throw as much money as you want at this place. People are still leaving in droves. This dude left the job with 4 years on and became a local 130 union plumber apprentice. He didn’t even empty out his locker. He told a few of his buddies and skated. People aren’t even leaving for another LE job. Their just getting out all together.
Is it me or does the retention bonus seem too little too late? The idea is to keep coppers around? That ain’t gonna happen. They know this job is a dead end trap. It’s being driven into their heads from day 1 now.
$2,500 dollar retention pay? You couldn’t pay me enough to keep living in this city and state. It’s a liberal hell hole. Believe me, I am not the only one with this thinking. Everyone I talk to now at work says “how much time you got left”. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of wishing my life away. It’s time to get out and start being happy.
Ain’t nothing in there about canceled days off.
Pretty good deal but I’m waiting to hear what happened to double time for cancelled rdo’s and triple time for cancelled holidays. I’m guessing that’s not happening?
If non birthing parent leave isn’t being challenged by the FOP. We need to elect new FOP leadership that will challenge it.
What is the medical way of taking paternity leave if that’s the route we’re to fall back on?
Looks good hopefully they fill the ranks Larry let’s see if you can actually fill the thousand to 2000 missing police officer positions. We definitely need the money keep paying into the pension fun we appreciate it thank you to the young coppers. You cannot go to any other department and make this easy money like you make here no way no how do you will never get the amount of medical time anywhere else plus the benefits are phenomenal compared to any other police organization so many that left over 100 are begging to come back and now with this there will be even more slapping themselves on the head for leaving.
Now start being the police larry says to get more aggressive. Let’s go do that job big pay results needed. Thank you.
Sadly any pay raise is totally negated by Joe bidens inflation and jb & bj illegal migrant practice.
Save your money!! Don’t buy any stupid electric car. Get a real gas car so you can get the fuck far away from here without stopping.
All the talking about the Union and the President. I think they came through and in my 26 years we got the most with them. For that I thank them.
Better late than never.
Still waiting for the COLA slam dunk! Oh yeah, and the books from OUR FOP....just sayin! : )
That is good news and over here we have some secrets from the older generation to the younger generation very good points especially about spending $100,000 to get a college degree that will get you a job making may be 30,000 a year. That’s why the coppers that are on the police department, no matter what kind of bullshit degree they have are making phenomenal money that they would never make in the private sector for the job that you do, it is a good job
https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/boomers-right-5-things-about-adulting-no-one-wants-you-to-know
2 years on. Taking my parental leave during the DNC. Having fun working the street headquarters.
On the FOP FB page, Jim J responded to a question and said family will retro to January 2023. No word on whether members will be reimbursed if they used personal time during that time frame.
How about residency?
wow ~ what a great percentage...I remember when we used to get only 1% and 2%
A win compared to the previous one.
Big win! I heard a rumor that detectives were also getting a bump above D2-A. Is that still getting hashed out or what?
As far as the maternity leave goes the Sgt's Assc and the Firefighters union already gave it up. Hard to bargain for something when other unions cut you off at the knees. The two gals that ran for office and lost in the last election have been putting on social media that J-Cat gave up 55 and out out health care for 57 and out in exchange for his credentials. They had me calling the hall on Wednesday sounding foolish.
If this gets signed Nov 15th of next year I'm gone! Last night besides hearing it wasn't enough one the youngsters said the should have asked for everyone to have take home cars!
You forgot about Detectives. All Detectives are getting a pay raise to D2C, which is half way to Sgt, about an extra 5000 a year.
Congratulations to the membership, are in order. That sounds pretty good. We are down 2500 members for the foreseeable future, but we will take this as a win.
Any word on retro?
Hate the FOP. They should have gave some
Officers an option to op out with the new contracts and have an option with the residency rule. We are the only major city left with the residence rule.
We elected a fighter, not a writer. So far so good.
This was so far beyond the previous crew.
I’m hearing rumors that the union had to give up some concessions to the city and one of them is detectives will work patrol one day a week in a district answering calls for service to help alleviate the back logs. This will be done on a rotation so everybody has a turn and no one gets screwed by doing this more often than others.
Per Uncle Lar, the only way you will be receiving the salary increases is if you do aggressive 1990’s style policing. If you’re not down with doing some 1990’s Unit 153 type shit then your pay scale will remain the same. Sorry guys.
Looks to be a decent upgrade over the original 2.5% a year but did we give anything up to get the raise and the certification bonuses? Any word on medical? Seems like a win for most of the department. I noticed some of the D2 units were left out of the D2A bump up which I thought was odd because it allows the city to divide which is what they want. It could also mean JCat picked the winners and the losers. All of the D2 should have been uniformly moved. Residency requirement lifted after 25 years of service would have been welcomed as well as medical after 29 and a day at any age but definitely an improvement over the original contract.
(OT) watch out for each other:
https://www.the-sun.com/news/9382478/israel-spiral-ww3-danger-navy-chief/
D2a should go to pilots, Marine unit and Mounted
----- Definitely, all of those spots take alot of skill. Especially the helicopter unit its all self funded
How could nothing be in there about days off cancelled. Until they fix that, I will vote NO to this contract every time. That is a huge problem, maybe even the main problem, why we can’t keep anyone. The younger and older officers are all leaving b/c they can never even count on their days off actually being off anymore. The extra money is good, but I think most of us would trade that for actually having our days off, lifting residency, and a 10 hour work schedule. I don’t remember the FLOP ever asking what we wanted, but they’d have to be deaf and blind to not address the cancelled days off.
Why does it say "meme" in the top right corner? Does this mean it's a joke? I also see in the comments some asking for the 12hour days. I have a couple suburban friends and it's very mixed review of that schedule. You have to realize that you can't get much done those days you work. 13-14 hours of your day are gone due to work, getting ready, and travel time. It leaves you only about 10 hours to sleep, eat, spend time with family, exercise, and whatever else you need to do daily.
Oh and something nobody has mentioned, what about bfds? They should be counted as whatever your work schedule is and not 8hrs across the board. It's a simple fix and is long overdue.

There’s tons of us stuck in this position! It’s age discrimination. Why can a guy with less years on get a benefit that I can’t get when we were in the same academy class. I agree, it shouldn’t be an arbitrary age. Make the medical insurance eligible with 25 years on the job, or even when u max out. Absolutely no reason a guy can get the medical insurance when retiring with 20 years on and I have 30 years and still can’t because I’m “not old enough.”
Congrats for any success in this. Whatever they're paying you guys, it's not enough.
Here's hoping you'll someday soon get a city administration that has your backs.
1) Where is the money coming to fund this deal?
2) What is going to increase; property taxes, school taxes, city taxes?
3) Business are leaving along with residents who have the opportunity and jobs
4) Pension what is this going to look like, because if we get raises the sgts, lts and cpts also will be increasing in salary

Just reading all the posts this far, holy Christ. Cops will bitch about everything and anything. Not enough retention bonus, 10-12 hour days, lifting residency. Can you just be happy that we actually were awarded something as opposed to being screwed which has been the common thing over the last 20 + years.

The notion that your employer owes you something (because of loyalty, reciprocation, or fairness) died in the 1990s. Unless it is specifically in writing or you have solid grounds to sue for the perceived (or actual) unfairness, then you are on your own. One guy has 30 years on the job and the other has 31 years on the job.
That is plenty of time to earn, buy, or make options for a way out. At one time, tuition reimbursement was at 100% for 2 classes (assuming A grades). So instead of taking ownership and planning your future, you guys blame your employer because things did not work out "perfectly" for you. And, of course, you want someone else to do the work for you (i.e., "FOP should fight for this).
Sounds like the guys on the helicopter, marine, and horses are getting screwed. They are the smallest units in the city and get stuck with shitty furloughs and have to work every special event. The helicopter guys pay for all their own training and fly in an outdated beer can for hours on end. Maybe you should send the bicycles to “chase” the carjackers.

RESIDENCY. Freedom or death. Everything else is moot point.
10/21/2023 12:49:00 AM
Absolutely right. Chicago is the ONLY large city left in the country with this bull shit residency policy. Firemen, teachers, garbage men don’t have to worry about being doxed while living in this city.
2500 dollar retention bonus. Hahaha
You want people to stay on this job lift residency in some form.

Yep. I totally agree. Typical coppers saying yes to extra money for their F-150 truck payment’s and alimony payment’s. You don’t even realize in this terrible Joe Biden economy that extra money WILL NOT keep up with inflation. Stop being so short sighted!!!
Off topic: tomorrow 300 ff/paramedics are dropping out of the paramedic program resulting in a downgrade of 30 CFD rigs to BLS. Stay safe out there.

10/21/2023 09:04:00 AM
That's good to hear. If you're not solving crimes you can do some patrolling in uniform.
Enough with the residency. It will never happen and you knew this when you all signed on. You 5 year wonders can buy my ouny 3br ranch in two years when I retire.

10/21/2023 12:43:00 AM
You nailed it. Time off is absolutely the only thing that heals your body and mind from this job. But flop is in bed with the city now, so throwing money at a bunch of brain washed sheep will solve all the problems.
The overnight essentially bitch ragging comments total in the upper two digits as of now.
Will a day times' worth of hours get it to blow past to triple digits?
Let's pick up the pace, eternal complainers, even repeated same bones to pick are counted.
Let's not rely upon the sore losers posse to cover the spread.
Nice job dudes! Took way too long, but oh well. Now sue to get residency lifted. Then get us the 12 hour day schedule.
10/21/2023 12:18:00 AM
Suing for residency is the only way to get it. Or paying a lobbyist to advocate change in legislation will work too. Aren’t we paying more in dues for a PAC fund? Does anyone even realize what that means? Not electing your local alderhuman or state rep. Those spots are beyond useless in this city and state. A paid lobbyist to change residency laws is the way to go. Grow up FLOP.

Bwahahahaha! I also heard a rumor that the city will open an overtime initiative to any copper who wants to patrol down in the Deep Tunnel underneath the city at double-time. Of course it’s a foot post only…clown.
Gee, feels like a few days prior everyone was hating on the FOP..... stuff takes time! Especially when you lump ALL other duties on top of a city / county / state that refuses to negotiate!

I didn’t hear j-cat say anything about our new work schedule. 10 or 12 hour day is the way to go. That’s one or two more movies I can watch on Netflix. It’s at least 4 more episodes of my current tv show I can knock out also!
10/21/2023 12:23:00 AM
This post is sadly correct. Anyone who isn’t sitting in a hole watching tv on an iPad or their iPhone isn’t doing it right. In-between answering calls and doing paper on everything obviously. Don’t even bother with crying about working in a ghetto district with a 10-12 hour day. They do it in LAPD and get it done. They also don’t have a residency policy. CPD just announced we’re about to copy LAPD with a dedicated “homicide team”. Why not also follow their lead on no residency and a better work-life schedule?
You can throw as much money as you want at this place. People are still leaving in droves. This dude left the job with 4 years on and became a local 130 union plumber apprentice. He didn’t even empty out his locker. He told a few of his buddies and skated. People aren’t even leaving for another LE job. Their just getting out all together.
10/21/2023 12:57:00 AM
LEO’s are leaving the profession everyday. The smart ones understand this is job has become a soul crusher. You make more money and live a normal life leaving this policing world. You can count on your days off in the trades. You can count on not being angry, confused and misunderstood all the time. I don’t blame them. Too bad too many of us are stuck in the 15-20 year range and are stuck here for life.

Double time for days off canceled. Is that what we gave up for a one time retention bonus payment? Insanity. Doing the same thing and expecting different results. They already announced no August furloughs in 2024. Fuck your $2,500. Keep your blood money. I want my life in tact. I want my freedom.
Its amazing all the whiners on this job! Some of you need to grow up.

Where did you hear that kid? The toilet in 003 on 1st watch?
The City needs us, the detectives. BJ is making more murder police to keep that campaign promise. The only time you’re going to see us in that uniform is when we’re being paid time plus 1/2!
Thank God clearances are tied to excessively low manpower and not laziness, because most of my fellow detectives spend more time studying menu specials than blue backs (that’s a murder file kid). Lol, now go handle those jobs that keep coming in.

10/21/2023 12:28:00 AM
Modernist’s all over the world agree that a 10 hour day is more beneficial to your life span than an 8 hour day. It’s not rocket science. There’s research and data supporting it. There’s just too many cops with divorce and child care payments. Stemming from working in the Chicago police dept and getting all their days off canceled. Living above their means and buying $75,000 pick-up trucks. J-Cat knows this because he is one of those toxic coppers. He thinks we’re all like that and money will solve all our problems. Classic stereotype.

You know what else is a guaranteed recruitment and retention solution? Not being told where to live. Not only what city you have to live in and raise your kids in, but precisely what neighborhood to live in. Norwood Park and Edison Park are the ONLY spots left to live. You want to recruit and retain? Get rid of residency now.
Fight the residency Catz…cmon!

D2a should go to pilots, Marine unit and Mounted
Those are the most privileged spots on the department. If you’re in any of those spots then you had a phone call. If not then make your call and stop bitching. Now go back to your mom’s basement and have your meatloaf!

The Sgts union is tiny compared to FOP. It's not material to FOP negotiations. They get a win and give up something. The FOP bargins for a better benefit the Sgt union will get the benefit and whatever the city gave up to them because of the "me too" the PBPA has. They are too small and don't have enough resources to do anything else and it works. They will get these raises and they are likely going to get another raise because of the Detective pay raise.

Any word on retro?
10/21/2023 08:33:00 AM
Does 2024 sound like the past to you?
All of you suburbanites came in this job knowing that you had to live in the city. It’s not a just rule but stop complaining. Nothing will ever change there. Go back to a suburb if you hate it here so much. Laterals are wide open.
EJ and MKO’B have been VERY quiet over the past 24 hours. They spent so much time putting out the 57 and out false rumors, they must need some rest.
Why are people on here so focused on the DNC? You think libtards are gonna protest other libtards? Nothing is gonna happen there and 90% of the Dept won't be affected in the slightest
Stop With the residency rule. It’s never going to happen. You knew the terms of employment when you hired on. Never as in never going to happen. And with housing prices the way they are new hires may have to rent and buy summer home few hours away for weekends and for retirement.
And they guy who left for plumbing, I transitioned in from construction and still work it as a second job. Union and great pay and benefits. All is great until it gets cold out and you’r over 40 and when the next depression hits like 2008-2012 you will be begging for the police job. 50% unemployment in all the trades in those years. I know many who lost their houses and families traumatized by evictions etc. guaranteed government work is very undervalued.
Few winters digging ditches or 6-12 of being out of work and that plumber will be back taking the power test utilizing every benefit we have at our disposal.

Sorry you didn't or won't make detective. Not true, but nice try.
Money & insurance (which is money) is the only thing that matters . That’s why you have a job. All the other stuff is noise .
All the residency comments. Guys, retire or quit and you can live wherever you want lol. And Wtf is going on in 010? From migrants shitting in bushes, Sgts sleeping with officers, tactical officers riding 99 chasing into buildings alone causing 10-1s not knowing where they are? The stories out of there are endless. Hey Is diddler Dan still a Sgt over there or did little Will Betancourt ship him out yet for drinking on the job? Why hasnt little Will been promoted yet LOL? But no doubt diddler Dan has some young latino male officers hes trying to diddle or forces to hang out with him. He still trying to impress the young ones with how much he likes to workout and the testosterone hes on LOL? Youre so strong diddler Dan lol. Diddler Dan loves to be near and close. No young male officer or migrant is safe. You cant escape the diddler.
Cry babies with your, what about paternity leave! I got a day off sickness in family and a day off time due once and had to schedule my furloughs around childbirths. Put your big boy pants on and suck it up!
If you came on at 23, you made damn good money. Keep making damn good money. I knew a guy who was selling office supplies at age 40. How many envelopes do you have to sell to make $100,000 with pension and benefits? I sold insurance at 7 percent commission. I would have to cold call and sell $3,000 of premium a day 365 days a year to get that. Burning my own gas, no pension, no benefits. Stay fetal, my friend.
J-Cat is the man! To everyone who was badmouthing J-Cat, suck it b1tch@s! How do you like them apples. J-Cat for another term by a landslide.
Guys complain about days off cancelled how many so far this year have been cancelled like six or seven big deal what a bunch of cry babies, what were u gonna be doing farting into your couch watching Netflix playing on ur phone anyways like I’m doing

10/21/2023 12:22:00 AM
There’s tons of us stuck in this position! It’s age discrimination. Why can a guy with less years on get a benefit that I can’t get when we were in the same academy class. I agree, it shouldn’t be an arbitrary age. Make the medical insurance eligible with 25 years on the job, or even when u max out. Absolutely no reason a guy can get the medical insurance when retiring with 20 years on and I have 30 years and still can’t because I’m “not old enough.”
10/21/2023 09:41:00 AM
Same way with social security you have to be a certain age, not age discrimination just follow the rules! The pension is not even fully funded the age range is good you knew this when you got the job!
Mounted, Marine, and K9 all left out of D2A. Way to let the city divide us John. Weren’t you the one always saying don’t let the city get its foot in the door.
So much bitching. You guys make democrats look happy. Go outside.

I’m hearing rumors that the union had to give up some concessions to the city and one of them is detectives will work patrol one day a week in a district answering calls for service to help alleviate the back logs. This will be done on a rotation so everybody has a turn and no one gets screwed by doing this more often than others.

10/21/2023 09:39:00 AM
Yeah there is only 24r hours in a day so that should be expected. The question is would you rather have 3 and 4 days off a week or an extra three hours four days a week? I’m taking the days off every time. Not worried about BFD hour either. It always guys worried about dumb shit that fuck things up. When they had ten hour days in 020 the retards were worried about their side job making $15.00/hour and burning 10 hour to take a day off, ignoring that the were off a whole other day a week and and two more days off on the weekends. If you are more worried about the side job paying you $15 a hour than the full time one paying you $50, you’re an idiot, flat out.

COLA will be voted on in house the last week of October and senate first week of November. Sb 1956. The problem is that coppers don't pay attention and know what's going on. All you guy do is bitch about everything, and have no idea about shit. I am retiring in a few months. Thank god.

Cry about it. It's all John's fault. Waaaaah
Boys & Girls
Residency was fought in the courts and all lost. It will never be lifted. They need to collect the income taxes and property taxes and your off-duty hours protecting the neighborhoods to/from work and while at home.
As for your wish of 10–12-hour workdays???? How do you handle that with almost 4K officers short. 2K eliminated positions by Rham and Beetlejuice, admitted 1400/1600 short by the administration this year and losing several hundred to retirements and those leaving for greener pastures over those hired per year. Good luck with that.
I agree "what did you give up" with this new contract for the money???? $2500 payoff NOT PENSIONABLE, so it is a real one-time payment. They used the increase in uniform allowances around the holidays for years as a payoff, not pensionable either.
Oh, and I predict Gov. Fatass will soon ask the legislature for a new bill taxing pensions. Albeit probably 1/2 of 1 % to start and increases every year thereafter. Playing the need for money to avoid bankruptcy, pay off pension debt and every other excuse except stop spending.
In my day it was 28 years of Vaudeville and a pension, now it appears 28 years of disappointment, disrespect, abuse and a dead-end job (unless you are wired).
Don't get me wrong we needed to fight City Hall, disrespect and hate by the Permanently Aggrieved and some the bosses but we did have a great States Attorney's Office that fought for the police and worked hard at convicting the bad guys. Street Justice was applied at the appropriate times. Sadly, you have an enemy in that position looking to jackpot you at every move.
I wish you all the best and pray for your safety. You are part of the Brotherhood and us Geezers are in your corner.
There are too many wins in this agreement. I want to know what we didn't get, or are giving up for this. It sounds too good to be true....
Idiots! The city OWNS FOP. They will never sue for residency. It’s not something other departments negotiated. It’s a simple lawsuit that would be won automatically b/c of precedence.
I’m currently in the hiring process with CPD and the comments either makes my decision to join seem like the best idea ever or the worst idea ever. Anybody out there willing to give more advice for a CPD Hopeful :)?

Sounds like the guys on the helicopter, marine, and horses are getting screwed. They are the smallest units in the city and get stuck with shitty furloughs and have to work every special event. The helicopter guys pay for all their own training and fly in an outdated beer can for hours on end. Maybe you should send the bicycles to “chase” the carjackers.
""""""""""""""
While I certainly agree they these are valuable resources and thankful that there are people who work those jobs, the fact is that they volunteered to work there and knew going in what the deal was. I think that they SHOULD get more money but if not (as we used to say to tact complaining team members), there's always the watch.
Ok everything isn’t perfect but John did a hell of a job negotiating. For anybody that complain about this deal, tell me what have you gotten better from previous contracts? John should win in another landslide!!!

_________________________________________________________________________
This is why it is so easy to screw us over. We complain about how we're treated....then we treat each other like crap. I'm guessing you're not a detective since you just assume that detectives "don't do anything". I just assume you write reports with little to no information, get the telephone numbers wrong, fail to do any preliminary investigation on your own and use the wrong UCR code. This is after, of course, you spend 45 minutes trying to talk the victim out of a report.

----- Definitely, all of those spots take alot of skill. Especially the helicopter unit its all self funded
And don’t forget ATC. FOP came to roll call and specifically said these units would be apart of D2A. Lied right to our faces.

What the hell are you talking about? Their quitting? Anyways… you know the thing.
All the bitching and moaning about lifting residency makes me sick. No one forced you to take the job so STFU.
What we should be bitching about is our real estate taxes. I’d rather live here and have my taxes reconfigured at the senior citizen level and frozen until I retired. The city probably wouldn’t feel any financial burden since half the coppers on the job now live in their mom’s basement. Let’s all ask our moms and see what she thinks. I bet she’ll agree with me;)
Lots of whiny babies in here that would never be happy no matter what. Youncould get 10 percent and it is "Still not enough" and you will still cry about how the mean union didnt return your call that one time even though you did no follow up either
How does SWAT go from D2 to D2A But canine and the mounted get left out in the cold?
Old School Police say:
If every copper was given a gold bar ($850,564) from Fort Knox by FOP half would say it's too heavy (27.5 lbs). The other half would say why didn't I get two?
Is there any retro involved? Asking for a friend not named Jennifer Koniarski

This 4th District shooting really needs its own thread. The comments would be hilarious…if it weren’t for the POD camera video clearly showing the clueless officers crossing past each others muzzles, bunny-hopping while pointing their guns and the offender calmly walking into the alley and behind the officers. The reports at COPA also shows that both of the officers had un-oiled and badly maintained firearms. That’s our backup boys and girls.
I wouldn't call that very good. Especially when other unions are getting 25-35% over 4 years. Other unions getting 8, 8, 6.25 and 6.25 raises.
Hey boys and girls, this is not a contract that was accepted by the union or the city. It was an arbitrator's decision. Both sides present their cases and the abritrator makes a ruling. No praise nor condemnation for either side.

Yes these officers are incompetent and should never have been hired.
This is the result of very low hiring standards because of wokeness.
Fire them!
If you came on at 23 and have 30 years, thank the union for wage compression. It was 33yrs for a full pension then.

THEN.... the discipline and the healthcare gets raised and oh shit!! the rest of the contract sucks but hey hey i can buy a tesla. shheeeeeitttttt

Hey dipshit. It has nothing to do with pension. Hitting 50 gives you the option to collect. People have enough time to collect their full pension at 29 and day at 51 , but are held hostage because the insurance premium coverage option won’t kick in til 55. That’s lot of cash on table. But you’re basically working for pennies for the 4 yrs. It’s absurd that when you’re maxed in time your not eligible for the benefit while guys who out less years of service in than you are. It’s something that needs adjustment and the idiots that originally agreed to it were too short sighted to catch that black hole of an area .
Keep it all. Lift residency, reverse Rhams insurance age requirement. Max out, walk out with pension and insurance!
Anyone with 20 yrs plus on this job that’s 55 is insane, get out now!
The replacements are here! Good Luck!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1NXHQ6rfOA
Hate the FOP. They should have gave some
Officers an option to op out with the new contracts and have an option with the residency rule. We are the only major city left with the residence rule.
———————————
I can name a couple residency required PDs in the area. Joliet to start. All the counties around us with the sheriff office as well (if you take your take home car home)
The City holds all the cards on residency.
It is a City ordinance passed in 1929
It was a well publicized preexisting condition of employment.
To lift residency the City Council would have to pass an ordinance repealing the original law. That is where your efforts should be directed into getting the ordinance changed through the lobbying and legislative process.
You would have to give the city a very good reason to lift residency. What would that be? It does stabilize neighborhoods. It helps keep the parochial schools in business.
And the City will say that residency promotes closer police/community relationships. Dubious, to be sure. Something a suburban commuter police force would not do.
We need clarification on the insurance for the guys getting ready to retire? Is it staying the same or is it changing?
Residency has to stay, if only to save the property values.
Who do you think will buy your home if all the police and fire move out of the neighborhood? Don't like it? Go get a job in the suburbs. Lots of police jobs out of state too, with bonuses for lateral transfers. No one is forcing you to work here.
Also, no D2 or D2A pay for phone call units. It's bad enough you can't often get to Marine or Mounted units without a phone call, but then to give those clouted a raise too? Not getting my vote. Years ago a PO who swam the English Channel couldn't get to the Marine unit despite being the best swimmer. He finally made it and they put him on midnights. (Hope you are enjoying retirement NF)
The workingman is a sucka. Sonnie was right. My golf club is calling
There were no retention bonuses when I came on--lucky to get one now.
If you don't like living in the city, move out and get a job somewhere else where you won't have days off cancelled and everything else you complain about it. I don't want my property values to go down because you want to work here without living here.
Getting Healthcare when retiring at 55 is great, and I'm not sure how many other employers offer that. It's a gift. It may seem unfair that you have 30 years on but can't get that perk because you aren't 55, but your pension will be alot more at age 51 than the guy who retires at 55 but has less time on, so stop complaining. Also who do you think pays that Healthcare when coppers leave at 55? It's just not fiscally responsible to pay your Healthcare if you retire at 51 with 30 years on. 55 is still a great deal. Long ago, Healthcare at 55 wasn't offered to anyone. They only started to offer that when CPD had too many officers staying on the job, and the city wanted us to retire sooner. The City can take that away at any contract. It was never a given in the past, it may not be a given in the future.
To the person that’s trashing K9 handlers. Only reason K9 gets 10hr days is because the city won’t pay to have enough K9’s for each shift. They have take home car because that’s the only authorized means of transportation. Stipend (court ordered) comes up to pennies a day, which is compensation for care of K9 while on RDO/Furlough. Remember that the handler takes care of the city’s K9 24hrs/day 365 days a year. Ask any K9 handler about the co$t associated with the wear & tear on their house and backyard. Remember those K9’s are not your regular home pet, they are working dogs. I could go on and on, but that’s not the point. You will not find any K9 handlers complaining about their job. The point is that all the special function units like SWAT, Helicopter, Marine, K9, Mounted + few others, should be getting a D2A pay. They all perform jobs that need special training/knowledge/certifications and assume extra risks to perform does duties in addition to general police work.

Ya, fuck that. Why do you think I don't want to make Sgt?
To those who are so quick to start patting our union leadership on the back for these new raises. Did any of you stop to think that if the City could've afforded them now, they could've afforded them before when we agreed to those shitty 2.5% raises a year ago? If our "leadership" wouldn't have accepted those bottom of the barrel increases then and gotten what we deserved, maybe now, when the Mayor came to the union for a favor and supposedly asked "what would it take to have labor peace" maybe then we could've addressed a whole bunch of different things we want/need. While i love raises, some of you goofs seem to think that just because we finally get what we deserve we should somehow be grateful and just shut up. Well to all you clowns with this mentality, I say go back into your cage and continue taking the scraps your owner gives you, the others will continue to "complain" to call attention to the b.s that's going on. Maybe some of you will wake up

I’m curious to see with the stipend is it $1000 for each (CIT, LEMART, BIKE) for a total of $3k , or is it $1000 max and you have to have at least one of the three. And would it be pensionable like duty availability. Sign me up for that bike training.

You’re a bitter old man! What did YOU do to help secure larger raises during the Daley, Rham, and Littlefeet dictatorships?
If you did nothing (except complain), then sit down and shut the fuck up!

We need to stick together guys. 29 and a day should get you insurance no matter your age. It’s only fair. If not you’re working for pennies on the dollar if you stay until you’re 55. What’s right is right.
10/21/2023 10:37:00 PM”
Yeah we get it. You maxed out at 29 and a day and have 3 years left to 55.
Deal with it OR leave. I know of quite a few coppers who left prior to 55 and were maxed out and just retired, bought their own insurance
Make a decision. Whatever it is. Just sit down and be quiet now. Nobody gives a fuck.
What is this your 8th post with the same rant?
Retro on WHAT? 😂😂😂

I’m currently in the hiring process with CPD and the comments either makes my decision to join seem like the best idea ever or the worst idea ever. Anybody out there willing to give more advice for a CPD Hopeful :)?
10/21/2023 05:31:00 PM”
Yeah, think for yourself. If you’re willing to be swayed whether to take the job or not by a message board full of coppers with their own agendas/opinions, then you don’t appear to have the ability to make your own decisions. Probably best to figure that out first, don’t ya think?

Mounted, Marine, K9, and Pilots are all phone calls spots. FTOs Deserve the bump because no one wanted to that job.
10/22/2023 10:30:00 AM
Minus pilots .... why dont you look at the NOJO requirements for the helicopter unit, 99% of coppers don't have a pilots license.
All the residency comments. Guys, retire or quit and you can live wherever you want lol. And Wtf is going on in 010?

Holy shit, you gossip more than a high school girl. Like, OMG, like tell me who’s who on the dept and like who are they dating? Like OMG totes, and like what’s up with so and so - like LOL they’re like totes cringe. Bet bae, love you byeeeeeee…fucking loser
You're obviously thinking about NATO, not DNC conventions. There hasn't been a memorable one since 1968. But I'll gladly take the comp time when they cancel our days off. We'll be sitting in the station watching movies
Hahahah!!! You obviously have no time on the job and have no idea what you are talking about. It is honestly scary to think how ill-informed younger generations of law enforcement are. It will be an absolute shitshow, as is every DNC in every city that it's held.
10/22/2023 01:14:00 AM
You are wrong! First off the department has offered healthcare to retirees for at least the last 35-40 years at age 60, the age was lowered to 55 in the contract that ran from July 1,2007 to June 30 2012.
I'm sure CAPS and DCOs are thristing for D2 pay...
Sorry you guys are useless!

In officer wellness they said that retired LEO’s on average only live to on average 57 years old, Why- the constant fluctuation of cortisol caused from stress. The average employee doesn’t have the type of unique stress that LEOs have. Most large law enforcement organizations allow their officers to retire at 20 years age 40 with 80% pension. to include medical until Medicare ie, New York, Los Angeles and the feds.
Just give these guys who have 29years medical already, the did their time…

And the VRI OT has what to do with this contract extension?
And they guy who left for plumbing, I transitioned in from construction and still work it as a second job. Union and great pay and benefits. All is great until it gets cold out and you’r over 40 and when the next depression hits like 2008-2012 you will be begging for the police job. 50% unemployment in all the trades in those years. I know many who lost their houses and families traumatized by evictions etc. guaranteed government work is very undervalued.
Few winters digging ditches or 6-12 of being out of work and that plumber will be back taking the power test utilizing every benefit we have at our disposal.
Stick to your guaranteed government job and leave plumbing for the union guys that need the work. How many loves of bread can you carry?
I got on at 23, will have to work almost 32 years to hit 55, if I’m alive that long. Anyways, most jobs I know of do not have a retirement age of 55 with health care and pension. Most places require you to work into your 60s, probably 63 to collect your Medicare. 8 years of retirement is a lot to enjoy, if you take care of your health and not croak after retirement.

If you came on at 23 and have 30 years, thank the union for wage compression. It was 33yrs for a full pension then.
10/21/2023 08:32:00 PM
Madigan got us 29 and a day. In exchange for the Union supporting his daughter for attorney general. Madigan was supposed to get us 25 and out but it turned out to be 30 and out.

2 years on. Taking my parental leave during the DNC. Having fun working the street headquarters.

Does this apply for baby-mama shorties or just those born in wedlock? Answer quick we are 10 months out.
Let’s thank the person who deserves all the credit for this agreement. Thank you Mr. Arbitrator.
Get your facts straight Jimmy. No one is mad about the election. You were the only one in a bar on election night too afraid to be present for the count because you were worried you might have to go back to being a detective. Only after you were told by the poll watchers that you were winning did you come back to the FOP hall from Richards, where you were drinking your body weight in liquor and then acted like a drunken asshole smoking a cigar while people were still eating. I’m
Glad we get to see you posting on Facebook 8 hours a day for another 4 years and bitching about how hard you work. If you call showing up at 10 planning lunch and posting on social media until you leave work early work, ok. We know you take a few calls when others are still on the phone and you are the only one who isn’t. You along with the board voted unanimously to CHANGE the way we get to access OUR records, don’t sell it like you were doing us a favor. A date and time was requested, and denied. Another date and time was requested so the board met on that original date and adopted a few rules so that members can jump through hoops to see the financials. And you don’t want credit cards or checks written to be viewed just the tax info people can already get online. In fact, someone emailed two weeks prior and then came in and saw the board meeting minutes. The rules only seem to change when someone asked for the financials. John referenced this at the meeting and stated it was a unanimous vote which is good because that means everyone present will be held accountable. Sounds legit. Rumors were circulating about 57 for weeks. Maybe you guys started it so you could look like Heroes. Almost every post i saw Was labeled rumor. One you are referencing even said John addressed it in a video.
Keeping the membership in the dark…. We have a really big announcement and then we don’t. We have a really good deal in the works but we can’t tell you anything about it. Cola is going to get passed for the fourth time.
For an administration that was so loud for three years to now be secret squirrel about it all is very odd. When people ask questions you just scream at them and tell them to get help at eap. You never know who’s sitting in that meeting listening to Mike talk about all that is available for help and you sit and laugh about horseback riding and seeking help like it’s shameful. You may have just prevented one member from asking for help Sounds like you are all about the members.
I have a pool boy? How delightful. I guess I need to get a pool.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Who is this Kissing Bandit of which you speak?
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Wonder if fto’s actually will teach the ppo now. Other officers teach them once off their cycles. And the officers get no extra pay

I bet she’ll agree with me;)
10/21/2023 07:03:00 PM
I find your statement very offensive since I live in my mom's attic and therefore I feel like I'm above everyone else. Please apologize!
