Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration quietly signed a new $40 million agreement this week with Kansas-based Favorite Healthcare Staffing to continue to staff the city’s migrant shelters through October of next year.
The Johnson administration has faced growing criticism over the increasing costs of caring for and sheltering migrants, 19,000 of whom have arrived in Chicago over the past year.
The latest census from the city shows more than 11,000 asylum seekers were staying in the shelters this week with more than 3,000 living at Chicago police stations.
NBC comes up with some eye-popping numbers:
- An NBC 5 Investigates’ review of invoices for 400 Favorite Healthcare Staffing employees showed that Favorite routinely billed for 84 hours of work per week for most of their employees and that those rates ranged from nearly $50 to $156 an hour for regular pay and from $75 to $234 an hour for overtime during the four-week period we examined.
For employees assigned to housekeeping, according to the invoices, Favorite Healthcare Staffing billed the city of Chicago for four weeks at a median pay rate of $17,000 for each of their housekeepers. At that rate, taxpayers could have potentially paid a median rate of approximately $221,039 annually for each housekeeper supplied by Favorite.
Begging your f#$%#ing pardon?

- $234 per hour?
- $221K annually for housekeeping?
Do you know how many investigations would be opened up if a copper tried to claim eighty-four hours in a single week? And it wouldn't just be the guy submitting the slips.
And it gets better (or worse):
When it came to employees assigned to security, the invoices show that Favorite charged Chicago taxpayers a median payrate of $24,000 apiece for each security guard, for four weeks’ worth of work. That translates to an annual charge, for each security guard, of $312,000.
The invoices also show that for one registered nurse at the shelters, Favorite billed Chicago a total of more than $64,272 for four weeks’ worth of work. At that rate, taxpayers could’ve potentially paid more than $830,000 in a year for this single nurse.
Someone somewhere is getting a huge kickback. That should be the follow-up story.

In the real world companies and vendors operate on a 30 day billing period. When you do business with the city it's 180 days. Thats why minority contractors don't participate. Only the largest companies have pockets deep enough to wait 6 months to get paid. And thats after enduring all the set aside and politics.
Can't you just hire the illegals to clean up for like, $2.00 a week plus food and shelter?
Checked on this before but could find no local pay to play. This company merged with the Acacium Group in 2022. The operation is global so yes that would be a good followup story of where and to whom the money goes.

How tax payers voted for a guy that spends 40 million a month of tax payer money to fund the invasion of city neighborhoods is beyond belief. If they already dont have buyer's remorse maybe voters will figure it out when their taxes sky rocket, and their property values tank, while the city is selling off more assets like O'Hare.
It's all the additional security and training necessary to keep the "refugees" and "undocumented migrants" safe from the contracted workers. What? The mayor's son got a company job with a company car, house, and other benefits? Nothing to see here. Move along...

A small group of the gig workers rallied outside of the Walmart on Broward Boulevard in downtown Fort Lauderdale Tuesday morning, demanding that the company take action against the “scammers.”
Many of the workers are immigrants who rely on the app, known as Spark, for their livelihoods and to support their families. They spoke of incomes reduced by half, harassment and threats from other workers, and hours spent in hot parking lots, waiting for orders.

I know for a FACT. There are a slew of minority contractors who regularly deal with the city for there supplies. They are nothing more than middle men. The scam has been going on for over 30 years that I know of. The City orders supplies from XYZ minority contractor. XYZ calls up Granger, MxMaster Carr or any of the large supply houses, orders the supplies, has them delivered to the city, then bills the city adding 10,20, sometimes doubling the charge. They can afford to wait, they have no overhead.

That is probably not the actual pay rate, but the fully burdened rate. It includes the cost of benefits, such as health care and retirement, and overhead like the contracting and admin costs and employer taxes. It's not uncommon for a contract rate to be 2x or 3x the actual pay rate.
All about sharing the wealth and kickbacks..
