Narcan Vending Machines
- Chicago is trying to make it easier for people to get a lifesaving drug — for free.
Five vending machines have been strategically placed throughout the city and will carry Narcan, the drug that can reverse an opioid overdose.
The pilot program was funded by the CDC with a $17 million dollar grant to distribute vending machines across the city. The machines will hold more than just Narcan including hygienic products including socks and undergarments.
People will need access to a private pin and can get whatever they want for free. However, the pin to receive Narcan is only ‘1234’ because of the short window to receive medication for someone who has overdosed.
The machines are located in five areas, the Garfield Community Center, Uptown and Harold Washington Libraries, the 95th Red line station and the Roseland Community Center.
We certainly hope this isn't $17 million for just five machines.
And if the fentanyl seizures at the border are any indication of what's actually coming over, you're going to need a bigger boat lot more machines.

Obviously it would be cheaper to take down the drug cartels and close the border. This is a straw man program by the Democrats to give the public the idea lives are being saved, plus the businesses and the politicians are making a lot of money.

We lose 100,000 people every year to drug abuse. Imagine the carnage if we did not have NARCAN? We would be losing a Quarter Million or more every year.
All the while? Communist China is still pumping out Fentanyl Precursor Chemicals by the Ton. Year after year. They probably kill a half million people worldwide every year. This is truly Chinese Vengeance for the Opium Wars and their "Century of Humiliation."
Be careful when administering Narcan. Addicts get really, really angry when you harsh their mellow. They wake up and can mess you up.
Can somebody explain to me why fentanyl is so insidious? Is it because it's being used to contaminate other substances which people shouldn't be ingesting? If so, then the problem seems like a strange thing to complain about.
I had to laugh when the reporter in the WGN video the reporter said two of those locations that were high in overdoses were the Uptown and Harold Washington Libraries. Libraries??? We I guess I am not surprised. In the late 60s when I was in college sometimes you needed to go to the downtown main library for research projects. A lot of those books were locked up and you had to sign for them and show your library card. I asked the librarian why these research books were locked up but other regular books were on the shelves. She said the bums (nka as the homeless) were taking the books across the street to Grant Park to their encampment to burn them in their bonfires to stay warm at night.
That library was also full of bums and they reeked of urine & feces. You couldn’t spend much time there.
So now we have two libraries that are included in the list of the most overdose locations!
Do you want your children going to Chicago Libraries. Things just keep getting worse in this city.
Why not go all the way and make it a Red Light District.

Narcan vending machines are a great addition to the existing fentanyl vending machines. Except that fentanyl often comes with free delivery. Also, the fentanyl will never run out, unlike these vending machines which will be cleaned out in about two minutes. Two minutes later: You want Narcan? Pay me.

Former Fire here, first narcan 1989.Cuff them before you bring them back,and if they are known jerks double up and make them start back from zero.
They have the best vending machines I ever saw in Japan. There was a beer vending machine in the hallway of my hotel just a few feet from my door. Better than any minibar here. Sapporo & Ahsahi & Kirin -- tall boys too.
