Drama queens, first of all that's what internal affairs is for. This is so far away from the superintendent You all act like He showed up on scene and burned the test kit and that's if it's true that it's even lost. Some of these comments make me think the people who are commenting aren't the police at all. He only has to hand down discipline once he receives the report from COPA/IAD report and has all the facts then he could go ahead and make his recommendation for firing. The limit, MAUI was on scene within the hour, they didn’t think she was impaired and thus didn’t push for blow or charges.
Confirmed false. The kit was sent in to the lab and MAIU has the results back already. Not good. If it was “lost” they wouldn’t have results. Saying stuff like this can get someone in trouble. Let the investigation play out.

It just keeps getting better. Assuming there is/was a kit I would expect for it to get lost after a few years, not so close to the date of occ of the T/C. Bottom line the people involved in a coverup, if there is a coverup, means the more people sworn to keep a secret, in light administrative and criminal consequences are going like house of cards. I can see the new addendum coming out next year to cut down on lost kit(s). Lt or above of same gender will witness the urine sample given or blood draw taken and accompany said kit along with said officer assigned to retrieve bodily fluids and transport in in a Department vehicle and will not delegate the responsibility of line of custody of said kit to ERPs. Bureau of Technical Services create a log receipt encompassing yada yada yada yada for Department personnel whether on or off duty. You get the idea. Heads will roll. And the more this has legs in the MSM, the more heads will roll. Cut a corner here, cut a corner there. It’s one thing to explain why you did or didn’t do something according to the Orders, it’s another thing to explain why you didn’t follow Department Orders. There are days, week, months or even years you have eaten the bear and nothing happens. This time it’s the bear’s turn to chow down. People do the RIGHT thing, plain and simple.

This is true. Best friend works in 018 on 1st watch. Apparently the DUI kit was not put in the refrigerator at Homan, as it is supposed to be to preserve the sample.
Forensics have become a joke the last few years. Not sure what happened. It’s just a sign of the times.
The hospital will have their own blood results recorded, so that won’t matter. Not sure about urine. So if some pulled a little stunt like that, they would be beyond stupid, and corrupt. If memory serves me right, this is a hand carry, so the transporting ET will be ok. If it is missing, Homan Square heads SHOULD roll, but they won’t. Lots of protected class individuals work there. Probably only the non-protected class supervisors will be punished

Why are people so shocked about the "lost DUI kit?" Murders have been covered up by CPD with less attention. I've seen CPD computers and phones get "lost" when the department is being subpoenaed to turn them over. Records? We don't have no stinkin' records. It's all legit.

90 percent of our DUI kits are expired anyway. The evidence usually gets tossed because of this.
CPD does not care about DUI enforcement.
We have 1 DRE that works the street. One. St Charles has 10, and around 100 total officers in their department.
CPD refuses to even allow coppers that qualify for the training to attend it. Shameful.
Here's a little lesson, any fatal accident has implied consent which means regardless of not showing signs of impairment they have to submit to chemical testing. You can refuse, but that comes with a year long license suspension. It's on a traffic crash warning to motorist, not DUI warning to motorist. As far as an inventory getting lost, That kit has to be hand carried, comes with a manifest, once you get it approved at district level. You fill out a bag at ERPS, sign your name or initial about 4 times and the ERPS officer accepts the manifest. A lot of dinguses on this job, but if it disappeared which I doubt,than depending on what stage some idiot will be screwed. If this chick was drunk, high. I'd highly doubt she'd submit to anything. Not some grand cover up. Coppers need to use their own head instead of believing a "friend" who works with someone. Shit is worse than high school. Now I want some keeses from the Bandit

You’ve obviously underestimated the incompetence members of the CPD are capable of. This is the most believable of scenarios. In fact, I would have been surprised if they hand carried it to the correct location.

Hospitals do not keep backup copies of police evidence. They may take blood and urine samples as part of their emergency room protocol depending on the circumstances for their own informational need for the course of treatment.
Ok , odpo female drives up on sidewalk and kills a pedestrian, hospital taking blood and DUI kit are two different things. Hospital will only take blood if the DUI suspect is injured not just because the police ask them too. Now if a DUI kit is done the hospital will have no idea what the results will be because they do not keep any record of a DUI kit. I have never in 20 years seen a DUI kit results be back in a week, usually takes about a month. If it is true kit was lost at ERPS heads should roll at all levels, again if true who the fuck is this po - who btw killed someone- that people will put their careers on the line for a po who killed someone. Hope it’s not true, but if it is termination is in order for all involved.
Chizewski the gift that keeps on giving. Its all about him He never had a bad job and he's still going as the Chief for the Dept of Water Reclamation. You can find him at his house in the Norwood circle checking the water coming out of his faucets more than his office. Never heard a good word about him while on the job. Must have caught someone doing something illegal along the way to get taken case of and his family with not good jobs but great ones.
I once lost my car after a night at Duffys so this is possible.

Good riddance, stop strong arming officers to purchase over priced tickets for cheap booze and even worse food. People go because they’re forced and others because they don’t want to lose their spot. The price of tickets is ridiculous, they’ve gone from about $ 30-40 ten years ago to upwards of $75. The exempts pushing these parties have to stop being enablers of people who make bad decisions such as getting shit faced and then getting behind the wheel.

Half true. The kit was not lost. After a blood draw the blood needs to be refrigerated… guess what didn’t happen??? It wasn’t refrigerated and the blood sample went stale and unusable. Also, this didn’t happen at Jan it happened at the hospital. Either way this will still scream cover up.
MAU has had more traffic specialists indicted and convicted than any other unit in dept history. Townsend hated the unit and put them in uniform every chance he had.
Not sure who cares but I work second shift 24 hour desk at Homan (narcotics section). I was off that day but to those saying the coppers from 018 just dropped off in the 24 desk police mail, you are actually 100 percent right. Once our people saw it they called downstairs to forensic desk where they had taken over. But that was hours later after 018 dropped it off when our guys discovered it So yes some coppers just don't know if they never been to Homan.

They’ll probably do what they did years ago when a Sgt got DUI’d years ago after a party. Next year most went with a cash bar instead of open. A lot of parties even went with no booze at all.
