Officer Injured

We can't say we're missing the snow, but that doesn't mean people aren't driving like assholes:

  • A Chicago police officer was hit by a car while responding to a domestic disturbance call late Sunday night, according to police.

The officer was responding to a domestic disturbance call that reported two people in a vehicle in the 4500 block of West 59th Street, according to police. Once on scene at about 9:24 p.m., an officer was exiting a police vehicle when a car hit them, and they were taken to Little Company of Mary Medical Center in good condition with arm and leg swelling.

Part of this derives from the lack of traffic during the "covid" plandemic....everyone who did go out driving found wide open roads and reacted like a Formula One track had materialized in Chicago. Combine that with the lack of enforcement going forward (shortages, a discouragement of actual traffic stops, and courts letting everything go) and you have a dangerous environment for anyone attempting to cross streets.

Be careful.

I've never seen the roads, both in the city and on the highway, more lawless than now. From the assholes using the left turn lane to blow through an intersection to the jagoffs going 100 plus on the shoulders.

Fucktards weaving in and out, cutting off cars with less than a car length gap. Brain dead zombies driving with a trail of the skunk smell emanating from their ghetto sled.

Fuck them all!

The Scum-Times must have asked the officer about their personal pronouns. Cutting edge journalism by they/them/their. /s

Traffic violations enforcements are commonly held to be a deterrent to shitty driving.

I'll have to say it ain't so, Joe.

Only the occasionally driving stupid ones are reminded to not drive stupid.

The careless to reckless ones are not significantly impeded by traffic violations' enforcements.

Attempting to curb a clear violator will prove the difference between the two.

Former accepts being curbed.

Latter does not, thus, drives even more carelessly/recklessly away from the attempt.

So, no, increased/decreased traffic violations enforcements are moot.

Increased presence of more beat cars, also has no detectable effect upon the natures of the careless to reckless drivers.

You could have hundreds of self driving beat cars, with sex toy mannequin quality 'officers' at the steering wheel, and it would still not discernably affect the shit drivers, in any positive manner.

Best wishes to the officers for healthy recovery. Take your time going back to work. And remember to request the department submit documentation of your IOD time off so you can deduct for tax purposes.

But, but traffic enforcement on South side targets people of color. Only enforce traffic refs north of Madison but not in Austin area.

“ WHAT IF” Scenario. Sun Times article says Driver was arrested at/ near scene. WHAT IF this was Hit-and-Run? Given current CPD Pursuit Policy, what would the average SCC Reader do? In particular, how would the Keesing Bandit respond?

My daughter and grandkids live in Springfield which is about a 200 mile drive from our place in western Winnebago County,95% of the trip is interstate travel. We laugh because we count the number of state police we see on the trips. Usually zero and occasion 1. Today returning home on 26 December we saw 2 both were stopped behind disabled vehicles with one just outside of Springfield and the other around Rochelle. In the meantime about 30 vehicles going probably 100+. It's not safe on the roads.

Those people speeding and weaving on the xways are not only obnoxious, but really dangerous. Inbound at night is horrible.

South Suburbs are the same way; lots of idiots breaking traffic laws so often it's not funny. I am at the point where I hope the speeders and reckless drivers wreck and die, while nobody else is hurt or their property damaged. Can't even park on main surface streets without someone wiping out a parked car; the latest was in a senior center parking lot where somebody jumped a curb and hit a car in the parking lot. No brains, no skills, no hope. I'm going to count the times the traffic lights or streetlights are wiped out at 144th/Halsted in Riverdale for 2024; over/under says at least 3 signals and 2 light poles. The latest one so far in 2023 was a standard, a pole, AND the traffic light control box, playing "beat the oncoming traffic to turn" and well...they didn't. Then you have entitled pedestrians who literally refuse to wait for traffic, nor move at more than a shuffle when they do move. But hey, laws are racist.

59th & Kilbourn. Back in the good old days, there was no reason for cops to be near here because the neighborhood was so quiet.

Retired, also drive interstate every week. I was a professional driver for 50 years and have never seen anything like this, ever,in my life. Used to always be in the left lane, now I hide in the right lane and watch my mirrors constantly for incoming kamikaze flying bombs. Don't blame the troopers, every traffic stop of these types will probably end up in a fight or flight scenario. Predator drones with hellfire misses might be the only option. Change my mind.

Yes the blue card missions are also to blame. Cops are sent out to get these little gems for compstat. Tickets are hardly given anymore so people know they are only inconvenienced for a minute or two and can continue driving however they feel

Seriously, when the pandemic was in full force and there was zero traffic, I gotta admit to driving 80MPH on the highway all the time. Everyone else was doing it, there's no cop to pull you over, the highways were engineered for 120 so why not?

But as time went on people started getting crazier and crazier. To the point that when the coppers were finally running traffic again it was a true relief.

Now if we could just do something about the fools on the 290 that make a right turn onto the exit from the far left lane as they're aligned with the exit, during rush hour - that'd be great...

How about the motorcyclists that drive ON the white line in stop-n-go traffic on the Kennedy?

The rice burners blasting up the Kennedy to the Edens at 130 MPH at 2AM?

Don't even get me going about the Congo500 shenanigans...

My cousin said this when I first got on the job: "every dept outside of CPD/COOK has to hammer traffic, otherwise it'll spread and we are all in trouble." I was told at one time, CPD/COOK traffic units were solid, but like all things, it went away. No idea if true or not. I get staffing woes, calls for service, etc... and heck even the jokes about traffic coppers, but they REALLY do matter. I just wish folks gave a hoot about human life in general.
