Special Employment Warning

Our VSWO grievance guy says additional of people have contacted him in regard to the ongoing debacle, and a media outlet picked up on it:

  • A group of Chicago cops have filed grievances within the Department over what they say are “arbitrary, capricious and inconsistent rulings” that determine who benefits from Voluntary Supplemental Work Opportunity (VSWO).

Also, rumors of "soft retaliation" have reached our ears.

It seems that some officers have shown up out of uniform for Special Employment and been sent home immediately, even after offering to correct the infraction. That is the Department's prerogative.

You are required to show up on-time, in proper uniform with the correct equipment. A blind Inspector could find some of these infractions - including unauthorized "cheater" pants and/or wearing a jacket without a uniform shirt underneath or something other than the correct shoes. You aren't going to generate much sympathy on this end.

The city is throwing money at anyone willing to sign up and follow a few simple rules. Don't give them the easy out, sending you home for something you're supposed to have/wear/do anyway.

Two quick observations:

1). The linked article quotes some House Mouse, likely from News Affairs or perhaps SES directly: “Contractual agreements are 'not triggered' since the work is voluntary, and officers earn less than they do on normal shifts."

WRONG. Reference Section 16.2 of the FOP’s CBA. Not only did you schmucks trigger contractual agreements, you triggered Glen Popiela. Here is where I have to say “Bad idea, you dummies poked the wrong bear”.

So we have another stupid asshole sounding off incorrectly yet again, doing a piss poor job of damage control for his or her overlords, Allyson and Jill. Too late… their geese are cooked and they’re gonna leave you Special Employment minions to fend for yourselves. And this ‘tard is a special kind of stupid… how exactly does one earn LESS at time-and-a-half as opposed to straight time?

2). Totally agree on showing up in proper uniform and in possession of required gear. Don’t be the easy “mover” for some Bosshole who’s having a bad day. Play the game and make that easy money.

I sat at the 1300 CTA roll call and couldn’t believe what I saw. One young female not only had her hair down her ass, she had black tennis shoes with white soles and what looked like summer capri pants with gold buttoned cargo pockets. I remember years ago showing up at work with small posts earrings. I thought the female lieutenant was going to rip them out. As a female I’m embarrassed by these new females with clown makeup, eyelashes longer than my pinkie finger and hair down to their ass. Dress codes not only command respect they are there for your safety too. You’ll get no sympathy when someone grabs your hair and slams you to the ground.

You cannot put three coppers together and have them wearing the same uniform. We all have to admit it is totally ridiculous. Coppers look like slobs so many of them. We get a decent uniform check why not at least look decent shave their crap off your face with the fake bump cards and all that other nonsense. Those nails to that does not work cut them back so you look like a person that can at least try to get some respect! Then we have the vehicle issues you know who you are with the deep tinted glass even on your front windshield you cannot even see and you’re the same coppers that are complaining about the gangbangers doing the same thing but you’re just like them many of the coppers are respect is earned not granted, remember that saying? Now it’s time to tell mom you’re moving out of the basement and you will buy your own pajamas and you know how to make your own hot chocolate.

Chicks show up to work looking like they trying to get picked up off the street by a deputy or something. They wear full face of makeup and by the end of your look like clowns due to sweat LOL, the ones who have not got their inside job yet that is.

What looks the absolute worst, far and above anything else, are the overweight morbidly obese coppers. There is no way to make a massive gut look respectable. Doesn’t matter if they’re in fulll blues or not. Step one is to bring a fitness requirement, not just an incentive.

While I agree with you in regards to the department looking like slobs, the city should just authorize the 5.11 pants already.

The 5.11 pants are by far more durable, more functional, more comfortable, and cheaper than the prescribed uniform cargo pants.
So I don’t get why they aren’t allowed.

Oh wait, yeah I do. Because if the 5.11 pants were allowed, the connected uniform stores wouldn’t be able to gouge everyone at an exorbitant rate for inferior or quality gear.

Lost my dear mother recently to a four year battle with cancer. Still tough on the holidays and family events and along comes this asshole with his stupid, repetitious sick humor that certainly doesn’t help.
Make your mother proud and simply STFU.

Riddle me this, J-CatMan…

Why was my unit rep told no one is filing grievances over this, that “it costs too much to fight it, like 10 or 12 grand” and if they wanted to file a grievance they had to come to the union in person and make a statement to do so ? I overheard the conversation regarding another detective on the floor who got fucked by Special Employment. The unit rep hung up and said something to the effect of “that chubby union dude who makes all the stupid comments while handing out awards at the meetings, told me this. He basically told me to go pound sand that he will not take the grievance”.

Busted!!

Although I take exception to the “chubby” part as that holds a special place near and dear to my heart.

You see, SCC, you and I have something in common. Mom calls me her “Lil’ SCC”, as in her Special Chubby Cherub. She sees me off every morning with a pinch to my cheeks and a kiss to my forehead as I leave my basement bedroom to report to FLOP Central where I while away the hours scouting new recipes on Pinterest and fucking off on a variety of social media platforms.

Which leads to my point. I simply don’t have the work ethic required to handle an influx of dozens of grievances. I don’t remember anything of the sort in my job description. Incompetence is where I’m a Viking. I’d like to keep it that way. Status quo, bro!

The catch 22? I pretended to be involved with the packet we distributed to all the unit and watch reps. You know the ones… examples showing them the proper way to complete a grievance on behalf of the members in their respective units. We did this so we’d have less work to do and more time to fuck off. But here it is, came full circle to bite me in my fat ass.

I don’t know what to tell ya other than you caught me telling a lie and half-assing my official duties as one of your elected union representatives.

Now off with all you grievance mongers! Thursday night football will be starting shortly and mom ordered Buffalo wild wings for the game.

There needs to be a fitness standard first.

Uniform standards need to be enforced. Cops are using the same race / gender cards we all detest.

Well, what can we expect from low-quality hire / hiring standards.

Bingo! The “approved” pants are absolute garbage. Blew the crotch out on 3 pairs in 1 year just doing normal police work. No chasing or climbing over shit. The dept needs a whole overhaul in uniforms. Allow the 5.11 pants, allow shirt materials that are warmer in the winter with move ability and cooler in the summer. Finally to cause some controversy, dump the baby blues for field wear and go to a navy blue shirt. Keep the baby blues for the class As

Shut up, you fuckin’ Boner. It’s a figure of speech. I’ll call it a Clown Suif, Monkey Suit… whatever the fuck I want to call it. It doesn’t diminish the significance of officers killed. I guarantee I know more of those names on that wall personally than you do, and I can say with 100% certainty that none of them would take issue with it. Now why don’t you go check the punisher decals on your Jeep… stroke.

So what you’re saying is that your father also wore the CLOWN SUIT… got it. And I’ll use this term whenever and wherever and in whatever company I fucking please as I wore the CLOWN SUIT for 33 years, son.

It’s a uniform, nothing more. Not an identity and not a lifestyle. Now get over yourself, stroke.
