An NYPD sergeant was charged Tuesday with second-degree manslaughter in the August death of a scooter-riding drug suspect who crashed after the cop threw a cooler at him.
Sgt. Erik Duran, 36, pleaded not guilty to that charge — which carries a potential maximum sentence of 25 years in prison — as well as assault in the first and second degrees and criminally negligent homicide for the death of Eric Duprey, 30, on Aug. 23, 2023, in The Bronx.
Duran was conducting a buy-and-bust operation on Aqueduct Avenue near West 190th Street around 5 p.m. in Kingsbridge Heights when Duprey took off on a motorized scooter, said New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office, which is handling the prosecution.
As Duprey made his escape, Duran grabbed someone’s cooler off a nearby table and threw it at the fleeing suspect, hitting him in the head and throwing him off balance, James’ office said in a statement.
Duprey sideswiped a tree before he was hurled from the scooter and banged his head on the curb, ultimately landing under a parked vehicle, the attorney general said.
And the NY Post has video up of the incident. Aside from the charges the sergeant is facing, it's kind of amusing. Dude is flying down the sidewalk on the motorized scooter fast enough to kill someone....and instead ends up under a parked car.
Hopefully, the sergeant ends up cleared, but NYC is a blue state shithole with a Soros-DA and actual intelligent taxpayers fleeing at a faster rate than Chicago, so we'll see.

I was disgusted when I read the news. If the demoRats would have kept their promises to the black community to provide decent schools, jobs, housing, medical facilities for aid and mental health, and safety for the black community that POS would have had a moral compass, not be slinging dope and ultimately dead. DemoRats will scapegoat the Sergeant, but this entire incident and trial lays at the feet of the demoRats.

But it sounds like this copper didn’t get the memo.
You aren’t saving the city buying a few bags at a time. Especially in a blue shiiithole like NYC, Chicago, LA, Miami, or basically any large urban area.
Chasing dope is dead, get it through your thick heads.

I have seen many u tube videos of red state police pitting offenders wanted only for traffic and in some cases killing them.
It's weird how much difference a political boundary makes.
Since the reliable voting base of these democrats is the same as the subjects committing crimes, the expectation of this sequence of events should be uppermost in the officers' considerations of what to do and what to not do.
The resulting phony complaining/blaming of the expected increase in criminial activities being due to officers' inactions must be as disregarded as possible.
This is what the democrats wanted and this is what they deserve to get.
Nix the complaining, as well as the voting for democrats, if they want less criminal activities.

How much more evidence do we need to show how much hard-working police officers are being thrown to the wolfs? How much more can we as police officers take? For every action, there is a reaction we are taught, but we are taught to take an action to protect lives to protect property to protect the constitution of the United States of America, that is what our oath is.
Will you protect the sheep, however, as we know under this democratic rule with the Democrats in charge, and being in a blue state, which is a terrible place to be the police or a innocent civilian, because they let the criminals prey on us like we are lemmings. All we can do is pray. God bless the police because it’s not going to get better.
The only thing that will help this Sergeant is prayer at this point when you’re in a blue state with a anti-police rhetorical, constantly being spoken, hoping he does get all charges dismissed God willing he gets a judge that actually has some sense and realizes what a crazed insane charge was brought up on this officer.

Um, did you read the post? It says right in the article the Sergeant WAS CHARGED.
I say it was an Igloo...those coolers are over engineered and tougher than nails...There ought to be a law that says "you can't be a victim of a crime while you are committing crimes.
