City Council Punts Again

As the FOP president says, they're looking to have the judge take the heat for their gutlessness:

  • The future disciplinary forum for determining punishment for Chicago police officers accused of the most serious wrongdoing is now in the hands of a Cook County judge.

Mayor Brandon Johnson’s City Council allies made that happen Wednesday by using a parliamentary maneuver — for the second time in a week — to delay a vote on whether to reject an arbitrator’s ruling that would allow Chicago Police Department officers recommended for firings or suspensions over one year to bypass the Police Board in favor of an arbitrator who would hold proceedings behind closed doors.

    [...]

Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara accused Mayor Brandon Johnson and his Council allies of trying to “have it both ways.” By dodging Wednesday’s vote, they punted the decision to Cook County CircuitJudge Michael Mullen, so he can “do their dirty work for them” by enforcing the arbitration option.

“They want to be able to tell the squeaky wheels and the screamers that show up in handfuls that, ‘We said no, but the judge made us do it,’” Catanzara told the Sun-Times. “They don’t have the guts to do the right thing. They want to do the easy thing because they’re cowards. They carry the mayor’s water.”

The judge is required to do what the law says....and the law says cops get to choose arbitration. Hopefully this will be the end of a long road.

Catanzara is looking to hammer the city for years of denying arbitration and in the process, might make a lot of coppers rich....or at least financially whole again.

Catanzara yet again throwing a huge haymaker and rocking the city administration.
Going to bat for those who have been wrongfully terminated by a crooked system is no small feat.

Though everyone likes throwing mud at the guy, his wins are really stacking up.
This administration seems to be doing more for the coppers than any other previous FOP administration that I can remember.

They probably don’t hear this enough, but thank you.
At least some of us appreciate the hard work.

The only thing our city council is is a rubber stamp of hog government.

Has only had a bit of actual city council/legislative quality when it's members are squabbling over the portioning out of our taxes.

All else is mere fakery as a legislative balance to city executive branch chicaneries.

Ditto for our state government.

As for the crook county commissars....

They.needed the ceasefire with Hamas because they are about to go to war with the CPD. Even the Chicago Shitty Council is mart enough to not want to fight a two front war.

They are going to fight you all the way on Arbitration, and will use financial issues to harass and anger the rank and file CPD.

(Are the Sergeants and Lieutenants having the same issues?)

I went through the police board BS to save my job and it was through the grace of GOD that I won. The idiots actually said that they had no option but to give my job back even though I didn't deserve my job back. I've done absolutely nothing since I've been back and loving it.

They sliced overtime but yet added how many to brandons detail? How much is that costing? Is it still around 25 million+ a year? The lemmings expect the police to be there, but when we have no laws enforced at the level of the courts and the criminals are let go constantly to do it all again leaving murder, mayhem everywhere the people you elected have caused this. The CEO of this city the so called mayor is ultimately responsible, how many times does he,kim foxx, Tommy dart, the judges, governor go to the morgue, or the hospital to console the families and take responsibility for what they did? Even Facebook founder zuckenberg yesterday was told to apologize for all the suicides facebook caused in children and he took and faced the people and apologized! This is a lesson well done brandon a speech from city hall movie by Al Pacino start visiting churches as the blood flows going to get worse:

This needs to stay on everybody’s minds til August. Then treat the city and department the same way they treat us come DNC time. Too bad the majority of coppers have short memories. I know what I’ll be doing while the DNC is in town… and it won’t be wearing a gas mask and helmet.

Can we also give credit where credit is due. This was started back in 2018 under the graham / Preib regime. Cantazara has picked up the ball and continued the fight, but he did not get the ball rolling. Graham and Preib did. Thank you to both for doing this!

Give them mops, brooms, trahbags, and gloves; then tell them they can clean up their own messes.

If they can't or won't clean up after themselves, then kick them out.

Exactly!!!

How about rounding up these lazy, government leeching asses and have them clean up the shitty neighborhoods, clean up the side of highways and expressways, the lakefront that would help make the City somewhat presentable...make them work for a paycheck! Afterall, isnt that what they want most?? Work and money???

Yea, what he said. And the people from the previous administrations are trying to take credit for all the wins by saying the all the work for these victories was already done. I will keep voting fro J-Cat. Some of the people who post on the blog discrediting J-Cat have the signature rhetoric of the people from the previous administrations. Yet, the same people accomplished absolutely nothing and set us back a few years.

I hope you all realize that J-Cat is not doing this all for your benefit, he has ulterior motives. He wants to make this retroactive to 2018, gee..... isn't that around the time that he was brought before the Police Board? He could care less about you or anyone else but himself! I guess changing the by-laws giving him free medical wasn't enough for his appetite!

Hopefully some clarity comes soon, but I’d have to assume it would go back a few years.
I don’t think the city wants true discovery and litigation into the underhanded dealings of the corrupt police board and COPA.

Catanzarra began his police board hearing but in the end the police board never ruled to fire him. He resigned on his own free will. The people this will effect are those who were actually ruled as terminated by the police board.

Do tell, what did Graham and Preib do exactly in their 3 years? They did write letters that were never answered and the politicians laughed at but you got anything else? Pat Murray was called an “FOP clown” at a city council meeting and he walked out of the place with his tail between his legs. Wait, I remember, Graham planted secret cameras in his office to “deter” people from stealing (but you can’t deter if the thieves don’t know the camera is there), then offered insider information about the ongoing inside FOP to both the mayor and supe. Yeah, if that’s what you mean, they definitely got the ball rolling. Whatever you’re smoking, please share.

Sorry former Illinois resident but my understanding is arbitration stops the ability to strike. If they don’t let you arbitrate why can’t you strike when they broke that with no arbitration ability… sounds pretty reasonable to me let the shithole burn.

That would be a very hard if not impossible thing to do. The law was made part of the State Constitution and it would take a lot of work to start the process all over again.
