Did the building inspectors ok an electrical cord on the public way? It would be interesting if a passer-by tripped on the cord and became injured on the public way. Then they could call the law offices of former Alderman Edward Vrdolyak (fast Eddie), who was an ace in slip and fall on the public way cases and sue the City.
Why is this a big deal? All the CFD cars and trucks have this. It’s to charge the second auxiliary battery they have. It’s not an electric car. The sirens, lights and charging stations they have inside CFD cars that charge the radios and tablets all run off the auxillery battery. When at the firehouse it can be plugged in. If you have a take home you can plug it in your garage or your house or wherever if you wanna give it a little extra charge. Non issue.
As much as I think it’s ridiculous exempts get take home cars , CFD bosses don’t drive around as much as cpd bosses . CFD bosses rarely get called out for a fire they drive around check the houses around the district or battalion once and that’s it poof disappeared

That’s not an electric vehicle being charged. What the person using that vehicle is doing is the equivalent of trickle charging likely due to anticipating not using it for an extended period of time. There’s a ton of electronics in that thing that’ll run down the battery (parasitic draw) so a few cents spent to avoid a dead battery is nothing. I know a K9 guy who pays for his own car washes, keeps the tires armor alled,’bought weather tech mats for it etc. He takes good care of the car cuz it’s basically his and he respects that. I assume this CFD employee thinks the same way. Not everyone writes on headliners and dashes, picks chunks off the steering wheel, leaves food wrappers and coffee cups on the floor or smokes shitty cigars in dept vehicles. This is much to do about nothing.

I don’t think that is for charging the car. I believe it’s for charging piece of equipment, but do agree that you should not be using your own electricity to charge it. But then again, most likely a merit appointment , who got the job not by qualification but by who they are connected to.
The car is actually sending electricity out of that outlet... All CFD vehicles have that feature.
The electric is for the on-board computer (MDC). This is probably a spare being used by some exempt desk jockey.
Was it plugged in by a 134 union electrician in the city that works

The corrupt mayor of Dalton, IL Tiffany Henyard is going down. The FBI is making inquiries. Her corrupt police chief, deputy chief and cops are also going down. Mayor Henyard took half the police force to be on her security detail. She rewarded them with made up overtime if they did whatever she requested. Them cops shook down businesses on behalf of Mayor Henyard. One cop even had the stupidity to submit 303 hours of work (80 hours of regular time and 203 hours of overtime). When there are a total of 336 hours in a two week period.

Everyone needs to remember the West Virginia law: W=VA. (Wattage equals voltage times amperage.)
Most household extension cords cannot handle the load of charging an electric vehicle. You're risking, at best, a severe voltage drop and, at worst, starting a fire.
12 AWG wire is good for 20 amps (2400 watts) but only up to 100'. But nobody has those in their home. Longer than that, you need 10 AWG. (The smaller the AWG, the thicker the wire.)
Most household extension cords are 16 AWG. Which is only good for about 10 amps (1200 watts) at less than 100' length.

The problem is that the largest circuit breaker that you can (according to the NEC) install on a 5-20 Edison (PBG - parallel blade with ground) outlet is only rated for 20 amps. And most modern houses have 5-15 Edison (PBG) outlets that are only rated for 15 amps.
Now, you can go with a 6-20, (20 amps at 250 volts) but literally no one has that in their house.

Fair number of electric bike fires, due to cords and mishandled Chinese battery packs. Suspect using a household cord, strung across front-yard and across sidewalk, is like asking for a fire, or a homeowner insurance claim for tripping hazard, or theft. You'd think this guy would have a garage - right?

I should get one in case I have a power outage and can run the house off the vehicle.
Back in 1980 when we had ChicagoFest at Navy Pier a vendor got in a heap of trouble for nailing up a piece of wood so he could run an extension cord and hang a light.
He was told he needed a union carpenter to nail up the board, a union electrician to run the extension cord and a union gaffer to hang the light. Total cost....maybe $800.
Pretty chicken shit to do this to CFD.
I doubt they’d do it to us.

Thanks for the heads up. I went over to take a look. Unreal she has been rewarded several times since and is paraded around the the department like some saint. The promo video should be taken down. She's lucky to even have a job.

The Niles Home Depot parking lot is the highest concentrated area of brand new CPD unmarked vehicles on any given Saturday of the month. Yet to see a CFD batt chief vehicle there.
Along with liberated meat slicers, gas meters, and electric meters, comes this extension cord. They don’t pay for utilities so why bother. Better get to the fire before CFD does.

This guy works for OFI and gets a take-home care. The cord is to keep the battery from dying because of the computer and lights .What you should really be worried about is inspector Mcdermott working out on city time at La Fitness outside the city. He also did this while he was chief screwing patrolman over doing Lightfoots biding. There is tons ofcamera footage of this first at the Alsip location, then when that closed he moved on to Oaklawn. He did this on numerous occasions. The sad part is everyone tries to stick up for him. Don't worry though every dog has his day. Pretty soon all those cake units he got you guys in will be gone. It was just filed about a week ago, 24-cv-01394. Further scrutiny of the race-based merit promotion system. Sad thing is that Hispanics and Asians aren’t even getting their fair share of the 30% merit apple. Which is odd considering that a certain segment of the population is leaving the city and another segment is now the majority of the minority both in the city and in CPD.

I remember when I came on 35 years ago a old timer told me that the biggest problem with fireman is that they think they are the Police. He was spot on. They always showed up after the fact because they had to get out of bed or refused pending our arrival. Then on the scene they always knew what we should do with the situation. Heaven forbid we arrested someone and we wanted to put them on the report, even if they were the victim, they disappeared. When I made Detective and needed to interview CFD on the scene they were always hard to find, uncooperative, and as much help as west side Will.

You’re what’s wrong with this department. I’m sure you’re a “real” officer, a real bitter officer. Way to put blue shirts against each other, instead of supporting them and saying hey job well done taking that murder off the street. Doesn’t matter if it’s your first or 100th, it’s still a great job these guys did. Especially under these circumstances. We should be commending them and holding actual police work in high regards again.

Or it's an on duty chief going home for lunch and an afternoon delight.
Almost all fire apparatus have these plugs. Normally used in station to trickle charge the vehicle batteries and/or portable radios, flashlights, etc. when the vehicle is off. When they start it, the plug will auto eject.
