Manpower Dwindling

These are the sheets for the 004 District, 2nd Watch the other day:

Talk about a skeleton crew. And yes, we're aware it's days, but still....

  • 6 beat cars (for 12 beats)
  • 1 wagon
  • 2 field sergeants
  • 1 fixed post
  • and a pair of lieutenants

And 004 is not exactly a small District in terms of acreage....almost certainly top five.

I feel like this is an in-basket exercise for a lieutenants exam. I’d take one of those bodies from the SDSC room and assign them to an early 10 Sector car. Not much else you can do.

Yeah, however when you have a watch commander that gives everyone off and doesn’t care about the percentages then that’s what you get. There’s plenty on the watch, the problem is the WC gives everyone the day off no matter what. It’s great for the guys who want off, but it’s bad for the 6 cars working. I would rather have the WC give everyone off and just suck it up because one day I’m gonna need a day off and be thankful there is a Lt who is willing to bend and look out for us first.. there was a ton of PDays and CU granted that day. Hopefully the person posting this originally on Facebook didn’t just draw attention to it and now it will go back to 15 percent…. That would make a lot of people on the watch angry…

The paper clip hides it but total officers absent is 40. That’s on the WOL for leaving a skeleton crew. Sunday during the first weekend of March madness. Sometimes boss you just gotta deny some slips.. this is how people get hurt.

Even worse in 016.
A district which isn't even half staffed. Then usually only run 4 cars on midnights. Why the mayor's guard detail has more officers than 016.

That is without a doubt coming up rapidly the same thing will be happening on the fire side, instead of them working 81 days a year now they will at least work double that no more sleepy, sleepy time being paid for by the taxpayers

How is that relevant ?!
What’s your solution ? Drain the northside districts ? 016 is even shorter with more terrain !
Your asinine North vs South comments are ignorant.

Retired here...

Those A&A sheets look so ridiculous to me...

I'll bet it is easy to get a locker though...

When I came on this job the "new guy" had to wait for a locker...coppers were coming to work, parking in the lot and getting dressed using their trunk as a locker.

That being said, the staffing problems looks like a serious problem that no one seems to care about.

Be careful out there. Real careful officers.

004 gets way too busy to let that many people take off.

There's something in the water over there that makes the citizens being served a bit crazy.

Crazy stuff happens in 004. Hopefully when staffing is that short in 004, or anywhere, that P.O.s realize that help and back-up is a long way away, and they don't rush to any job, don't chase, and don't arrest anyone. Think about it: 2 cars go down on TVBs and who has to answer all the calls?

There are blue shirts in 004. THE problem is that they are ALL inside. You have like 10 CAPS officers, if you see the size of them you can tell what they do. Plus you have another bunch of DCOs who don’t do shit but kiss ass to the alderman. Check the front office, that bitch is packed with officers. Want to keep digging!? Check the downstairs filled with made up spots, DIOS? Seriously.

Get rid of the power test. Hell, coppers are going to be trained not to chase in car or on foot, not to fight people, if they resist you can get em later. So, why do they need to be in shape? Eliminate the power test, hire more coppers, keep feeding my pension.

Are you serious??? These guys provide valuable intel to the working coppers on the strict. We should actually be making at least captains pay since we give them all the information so they can look smart. I mean really most bosses are dumb. That is the reason you need a person of intelligence available 24/7 in districts. This is the smartest thing these merit bosses ever did.

Well when the jolly green Irish giant in 025 doesn’t want anyone on midnights working overtime to fill “trained” spots inside then they have to pull someone from the street inside to do it which then creates less bodies on the street. Glad he made it to the Sox opener during his shift tho.
