Passing the Buck

As usual, no one wants to accept responsibility:

  • As Chicago’s top cop announced charges Friday against a convicted felon accused of brutally stabbing his ex-girlfriend and killing her 11-year-old son, Police Supt. Larry Snelling repeatedly said the attack “should’ve never happened.”

But questions remained over what should have been done to prevent the attack, including why Crosetti Brand, 37, was released from the Stateville Correctional Center on Tuesday after having been sent back to prison earlier this year for menacing the pregnant woman while on parole.

We're going to go out on a limb here and say that since CPD doesn't run Stateville (or any other Illinois prison), then we're blameless. Larritorious can relax.

  • When announcing the charges, Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx told reporters that the woman had a “lifetime” order protecting her against Brand. But officials in Foxx’s office later walked back her statement, claiming the order "had no expiration date" and they were “still investigating” whether an order stemming from a 2009 conviction was still active.

"...lifetime...?

So Crimesha - although ignorant of what an actual Order of Protection entails - appears to dodge responsibility also.

  • During a detention hearing Friday, prosecutors said the woman had been alerted when Brand was released on parole in October because she was the victim in previous domestic violence cases against Brand, including repeated violations of protection orders. Just months after his release, the woman received a text message from Brand on Jan. 30 threatening her family, prosecutors said. Two days later, he allegedly appeared at the door of her apartment building in the 5900 block of North Ravenswood Avenue.

Prosecutors said the woman informed the state parole officials. When confronted by a commander from the Illinois Department of Corrections, Brand admitted going to the woman's home but claimed he was "looking for an apartment." Still, Brand was sent back to prison while the Illinois Prisoner Review Board considered the allegations, prosecutors said.

The board held a hearing and “determined the alleged violations did not meet the preponderance of evidence standard,” it said in a statement, adding that Brand was “returned to parole on March 12 and notifications were made again to registered victims.”

The board did not say why they did not find Brand in violation of his parole, given Brand’s criminal record and his past experience with the woman.

Now we're getting to who's to blame. The Parole Board - appointed by the governor(s) if we aren't mistaken - blew off the parole violation despite a history of parole violations because they're in the business of keeping prisons empty and not keeping citizens safe.

We could go through our archives and our work history and find dozens of instances where we personally called IDOC for a detention number and were refused 99% of the time. And this time it cost a kid his life.

"A lifetime order"? Well blow me down! You know what a "lifetime order"...or any other restraining order is? It's a fucking piece of paper. If someone is going to get violent with their ex they're gonna do it. What makes Kim Foxxxxxxx or anyone else think anyone intent on murder is gonna give a damn about some chickenshit violation of protective order charge?

Sentenced to 15 years, out in 7. Violates parole, serves 5 months. Gotta love liberal math.

Also, I love to watch how many felonies Kimm Foxx drops. In cases like this, where he's going to be charged with dozens of felonies, Kimmy will drop most of them. Then the judge will use "he's only charged with a couple of felonies" to sentence him to "concurrent" years (not consecutive).

Seen a guy sentenced to 50 years, 5 years each for 10 felonies -to be served concurrently. He was out in 2 years. Liberal math!

I wonder if the parole board will deem he has met the standard of violation this time?

Parole violations were pretty much never even considered unless it was domestic-related and involved a gun. Even then, it wasn't a sure thing. Why even have parole if it’s almost impossible to violate it? Just set everyone free and let them create more victims. Why pretend there's some list of rules or accountability or consequences? What kind of head-up-the-ass mindset does one need to grant parole to violent criminals who clearly lack the capacity to learn from their evil ways, and have zero interest in doing anything but re-offending at the first chance they get? This is a story of failures on many levels. The parole board failed to keep this murderer behind bars where he belonged. I'm sure several judges and state's attorneys failed to prosecute/sentence him effectively along the way. His victim likely failed to testify against him to keep him locked up. The victim's fiancé failed to ensure this piece of shit couldn't hurt his future wife. The offender failed to use his many second chances to turn his life around. To the ladies and men who find themselves in this situation, if someone you're in a relationship with does something to you that requires police intervention, they're not the right choice for you. Abusive partners don't change. You can't fix them. To the abusive men or women who commit these acts, if you need to resort to violence to convince someone to love you, or you're in a situation where the police have been called due to your actions toward your partner, you're in the wrong relationship. If you're abusive, there's a good chance no relationship is right for you. I'll never understand the mindset where someone will call the police to rescue them from their abuser, but then refuse to cooperate, bail them out, lie about what happened to save the abuser, etc. I understand that some victims are legitimately afraid to cross their abuser, for fear of retaliation. I don't understand the ones who willingly choose to be constantly abused for money or imagined love. Even if you fear for your life, you're not any safer by not getting the police and courts involved. It's also a good idea to avoid even entering into a relationship with known violent criminals, but that's a whole other discussion, so I'll just stop there.

This has been an ongoing problem…. In 2010 every CPD officer was killed by a parolee….. need to start suing the parole board for failing to supervise their parolees. Maybe if a couple of them political hacks got whacked with some punitive damages they would start supervising and stop rubber stamping the releases and actually be accountable to the citizens

“There should be confidence in the criminal justice system and we would hope that incidents are rare," Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx said. "However rare, this is horrific and we need to do an evaluation, particularly in this case and others, to ensure that there were no gaps in the justice system that will allow for a dangerous offender to commit the acts that he did. And as you heard the superintendent say, that there are questions and questions that need to be examined and truthfully answered so that we can prevent something like this from happening in the future." ABC 7 Chicago Fri 15 Mar 24

The brazenness and cockiness of her comments is astounding. A rat for George Soros! Nobody has confidence in the criminal justice system especially during her reign. “We would hope that incidents are rare.” Start looking at the news, it’s has been going on every day for years, a lot worse during her watch. “We need to do an evaluation.” Yes we do, and all the corruption and incompetence will lead back to her. She is the epitome of the Democrat pond scum that that’s rapidly destroying our country.

If this were malfeasance by a cop, COPA would publicly string the cop up by the genitals and parade the cop around screaming for yet another lawsuit against the city and the cop with some jail time as the cherry on top.

When is the last time someone sued the state, the governor and the parole board? This is a great situation to take the parole board apart piece by piece and sue the members individually, along with Porkchop (he has the bacon).

As an aside, rumors of rebuilding Stateville…why? Seems officials prefer that the place is empty anyway. Maybe a rebuilt Stateville will make a nice retirement home Illinois politicians!

I guess according to the Democrats and these idiots we have money to burn. Here’s an idea, fund pensions fully to those who risk their life to send these scumbags there and SUPPORT them with enforcing the laws.

They lived in a medium size apartment building. From the pictures I saw it looked decent but chances are high they might’ve been section 8, they can go anywhere with that.

I don’t know about the family but from all the interviews with kids and staff at his school it sounded like this kid was a good and decent person and probably would’ve turned out ok. If they were section 8, they might be an example of how it was supposed to work: to get a good kid out of the ghetto filth and give him a chance. But it illustrates the negative side of section 8. The filth follows them and ruins where they go.

This isn't a story of section 8 filth ruining someone's life. This is the story of a woman who picked a shitbag boyfriend, and somehow kept him in her life, through multiple arrests, orders of protection, and a new fiancé. This guy should've been a distant memory the first time he put hands on her. Instead, she let "CO" hang around and abuse her, until he finally killed her son and slit her throat. This is a failure in choosing a healthy relationship and a failure of our court/prison/parole system.

resisted arrest died in police custody, rumor has it autopsy showed he had a lot of drugs in his system, health conditions that caused his death.
hey, hey it's an election year, lets blame the police.

Parole Boards should be made up of the convicts' victims and those victims' family members. If a rape victim or the mother of a murdered child thinks they deserve parole, let them out. Otherwise, get back in the pokey.
