Overdue Decision
- One of the city's largest parades is downsizing. Organizers of the Chicago Pride Parade said the event will be smaller this June.
Entries will be capped at 125 group. That is down 35% from last year. The parade will also kick off an hour earlier, at 11 a.m.
This massive manpower drain and neighborhood disruption needed to put into check, especially as CPD manpower dwindles to crisis levels.
The next step would be to move the whole thing downtown where the streets are wider, the closures are less disruptive and parking is easier (not to mention the City could charge for the parking garages).
And by putting a damper on this monstrosity, maybe they can do the same thing for Billiken.

This should go to how some suburbs have it it’s by ot only and only if you get enough officers…
People don’t realize that all Chicago parades benefit the politicians in power and candidates who are aspiring to be in political office. The politicians just relish in the ability to march in parades to expose themselves to their peasant citizens. Outside of an alderman, citizens don’t get the chance to hobnob with the mayor, the governor, senators, congressmen. They do not talk to ordinary people because that’s filtered through staffs and the media even though they are supposed to work for you.
Marching in a parade gives the citizens the feeling of the majesty of these important office holders. The participation of the politician keeps them relevant and humanizing them by showing the people they care for whatever the theme of the parade is. Hence politician Joe supports Pride, or Mexicans, or Irish, or Poles. I think if there were no parades these political parasites would just wither away. Any chance to get their mug in front of the voters. So this is why we have such an emphasis on parading.
Years ago I was detailed to a double parade on Michigan Ave. The first parade was for the Germans and the second for Mexicans. When the floats from the first parade returned to the staging area to prep for the second parade they flipped the signs that said something to the effect of: Politician Joe stands with and supports the German community. On the other side it said the same thing except now it said Mexican Community. Next they replaced the flags and decorations to ready it for the second parade. They worked very fast. I just thought they really pander to identity to get votes.
Hold all the parades, Marathon, NASCAR in Soldier Field, less first responder manpower needed, less traffic disruption. Let them go around, and around and around until they are dizzy!!
All watches in 19 are fully staffed. One of the few districts with no down cars.

Easy to trick out this limit by 'groups' melding into each other, just prior to applying for inclusion in this yearly excess trava ganza.
I call this B.S., every year they say " we are downsizing ". However, what they actually mean is putting 2 to 3 floats under one parade number! As far as moving it downtown, that's never going to happen. There is too much money made by businesses (especially bars) along the parade route. What they should do is cut the route off, they should start at Irving Park instead of Montrose.

Anyone want to bet, they’ll do what they want.
Take these parades and put them in the bigger parks and let them hire their own private security for crowd control. Have S & S charge them for every barricade and piece of fencing they put up. If the neighborhood wants the parade let them figure out the logistics. What goes on at one parade is really a moral issue.
Take the entire freak show someplace else.

This training bullshit we are being sent to is ridiculous, there are time we have more than 7 people on a singe watch going to training for shit we already know. So sending 7 on a watch is at least 3 - 4 cars down and the City doesn't give a shit. For the citizens that read this blog, YOU are certainly NOT getting the manpower or service that your paying for with your tax dollars !!! Why are we doing training and having like 5 different classes to go to in summer when we are the busiest? Cramming in bullshit and severely depleting sources in our districts.
What they should do is cancel all neighborhood parades & the only parades will be held downtown on the 4 block stretch on Columbus. You can police it better then you get in get out faster, guaranteed to stop the problems associated with parades

I get for some officers, this wasn’t your cup of tea, even 25 years ago. I have a gay sibling and I’ve spent time at the parade a few decades ago with a few gay officers and straight friends. It was not like this a few decades ago. It was well organized and other than mostly lighthearted “tongue in cheek” naughtiness, it was tolerable, much the same as with SS Irish parade. But the past few years, it’s nothing to do with gay pride. It’s just another Marxist soapbox during and gangster cesspool after the parade. My gay sibling hasn’t gone near it in a decade.
BUD needs to be toned down------2 floats, numerous sucking up politicians and even more twirking children. All in the name of a cartoon character. Really? Talk about waste of Police manpower--a huge joke
Its not the parade that is the problem. Its the drunks and punks coming out of the bars later after they are throwing them out or closing.
That's nice and all but will it really make a difference? Those of us that had to work the second half of the day know the parade was only the beginning and things would tend to get way worse. People from all over will still stick around as they always have and they usually end up very drunk, high, and violent

Did 30 years out here and was wondering if the training unit could come out to the districts and train district personnel at their assigned districts on occasion. Since the consent decree forced this down our throats can’t there be a bit of leeway where training takes place? It seems like less personnel would be down for entire tours. Am I wrong on this? Zoom meetings were used for court cases and that crap seemed to work a bit so don’t be so quick to dismiss

That's why they have e-learning and roll call training now. They get to say everyone is trained without having to actually train anyone. They'll never be able to meet the training and supervision requirements of the bullshit consent decree. It's a nice little loophole to keep CPD under federal oversight indefinitely.

I was with you for the first part. Cancel all parades and street festivals and any marches or protests that use public streets. If we must have street festivals, make a secure perimeter and make everyone pay $25 for a ticket. As for the Chicago marathon, have them run up and down each street on the west side, but with no traffic control or police presence. Bike the drive? Sure, but keep it open to vehicles too.

Yeah, a lot of interesting sights, and every Kink under the sun.
The Park at the end of the Parade isn’t that bad.
For the most part, the Bars aren’t bad either.
THEN THE SUN GOES DOWN.
That’s when it turns into a fucking mess. All the assholes from the south and west sides fuck the night up.
The parade itself, while crowded, wasn't really the problem. It was the after party at night which turned into a jagoff magnet.
Sure, sure—move parades to downtown, I’m all for it. Including the Toys for Tots disaster that snarls traffic on one of the busiest days before Christmas. Or just have it in Tinley Park, where half of the participants live anyway.
