The Civilian Office of Police Accountability was expected to release video footage this week that captures a fatal shooting involving Chicago police officers in West Garfield Park last month, according to a family lawyer for the man who was killed.
Dexter Reed, 26, was fatally shot by police during a March 21 traffic stop in the 3800 block of West Ferdinand Street. Sources familiar with the shooting but not authorized to speak about it publicly told the Tribune that CPD officers fired more than 30 bullets at Reed.
One CPD officer was also shot in the wrist, according to COPA. A gun was recovered by police, authorities said, though it was unclear Monday whether Reed pointed that weapon at officers or fired it.
A funny thing though. We're hearing rumors that Dexter was employed as a security guard at Monterrey Security, a heavily connected and politicized business. A couple of Monterrey security personnel allegedly were doing stick-ups on the Red Line a little bit ago....while on duty, and that seems to have fallen off the radar.
Does Monterrey supply its armed employees with guns? Was the recovered weapon one of theirs? And how was a guy with Dexter's record hired for security....and perhaps armed security?
Questions abound.
But hey, Jamal Green has an axe to grind and an agenda to push (he even dug up the ubiquitous graduation photo from eight years ago), and if a few cops get shot along the way, it was probably their fault.

Keep shooting until the threat has been eliminated. If it takes 30 or more rounds, that's the way it goes. I don't think there is anything in the statutes that indicate how many rounds a person can fire in order to save his/her life.

Dexter has an arrest for Agg UUW with no FOID from last year. Who would employ such a person as any type of security guard? That would also seem to disqualify him from legally being an armed security guard in Illinois. If only they kept his dumb ass locked up for last year's gun, maybe he would still be alive to become the doctor or lawyer or rapper he was undoubtedly destined to be. It's really hard to justify rolling around with a gun and shooting that gun at police, let alone doing so while awaiting trial for your previous gun case. But they'll do everything they can to justify his illegal actions, while condemning the perfectly legal actions of the police. If you shoot at the police, you should be shot until the meat is barely clinging to the bones of your bullet-riddled corpse, or until every available round has found its way to you. No excuses should be made for such behavior, and no consequences should follow for the officers putting down the piece of shit.

I just want to say to the young police officers that were on scene and involved in this shooting you did a great job. As a 20+ year veteran I doubt anybody would handle it any different than all of you did. Somebody tried to murder you and take your life and take you away from your family and you did exactly what good police should do. Don’t let the media or any other negative person from the community make you think otherwise. Regardless of the politics that the city will have to play, you did an outstanding job and you live to see another day with your family.

For anyone questioning the number of shots fired by police in this incident, there were 5 officers, and supposedly 30 rounds fired at a guy who was shooting at them. I don't know how many officers were shooting back, but that averages out to 6 rounds per officer while dude unloaded on them. Whoever thinks you can sit there and count your rounds, along with everyone else's rounds, while being shot at, and then instantly stop shooting at the perfect time, exactly when the "threat is over," id an idiot. Officers on scene don't get the luxury of watching slow motion video of the incident from many different angles. They are being shot at, and one was hit, and must return fire to stay alive. If that takes 30 rounds, even if the piece of shit stopped firing a fraction of a second before taking a few more rounds in his direction, so be it. It's not a video game, and it's not something you can judge the way the media and shithead's family want to judge it. If you're the police and think it was "too many shots," go find a new line of work, or at least shut the fuck up with your stupid opinion.

The investigation also revealed that they were over charging for services.
When someone asked Rahm if this was okay in Chicago he said that was fine so no investigation was conducted here.

Monterey Security started by a Chicago fireman and Police officer, is a heavily connected company that has been banned in other states. Back in the 90's security at Park District facilities to include Soldier Field was handled by internal security at the Park District. The starting and ending times of their shifts often conflicted with roll call times and the head of Park District Security let the officers leave a bit early to make roll call. Then one day every police officer got a complaint ( a CR number back then) for " time theft". although the city lost nothing. The FOP stood up to the City and most officer got a reprimand, although some were found to be working full time while on the medical. The head of security for the Parks was replaced with an on-duty CPD lieutenant ( from Bridgeport). Then Monterey suddenly got the entire Park District Contract. It was thought at the time that the IAD investigation was started to get a clouted company the contract. Now it is a haven for retired clouted exempts.

It was the brainchild of a black alderman modeled after what Detroit had been doing. The alderman went to prison for corruption. The city actually promoted to lieutenant merit sergeants who were on a leave of absence and who never took the lieutenant's exam. I’m happy no Officers were seriously injured, although any shooting is very traumatic, thankfully they all can walk away. Here's a novel idea. Go to the FOP website, look up the contract and find out for yourself. Don't rely on somebody answering you on a blog. Get the correct info yourself.
Everyone can sit at their keyboards and tell me everything will be fine legally (and you’d likely be correct), but if they can get ES and fire him, then all these officers will be before police review board in a few years for several administrative oversights

For anyone questioning the number of shots fired by police in this incident, there were 5 officers, and supposedly 30 rounds fired at a guy who was shooting at them. I don't know how many officers were shooting back, but that averages out to 6 rounds per officer while dude unloaded on them. Whoever thinks you can sit there and count your rounds, along with everyone else's rounds, while being shot at, and then instantly stop shooting at the perfect time, exactly when the "threat is over," id an idiot.

Civilian here: That's what I was thinking, though I believe the officer who got shot didn't get off any rounds, so divide the 90 by 4 officers. Most of them just looked like they went into the offender's car anyway. Media are really playing up the 90 shots, though, so expect to hear more about it.

By my count, 2 mag dumps plus 1 in the chamber and 12 more from magazine 3 out of a Glock 17 equals 47 or there abouts. Pretty close to 50. He had 52 rounds available though. He was not in slide lock when he stopped firing.

Officers continued to fire because the shooter continued to move and fire at officers. As long as an offender continues to move the threat is not eliminated. Offenders family already hired a shuck and jive civil rights law firm, the FOP needs to provide an attorney to the officer to counter sue the estate and family of the offender. We need to start doing this as officers and a union to send a message. We can recover civil damages in addition to what the city provides for work related injuries by civilians and line of duty death. Time to go on offense.

Officers said the stop was for seatbelt violation. Plus you are allowed to have tints in Chicago. The old Chicago tinted windows ordinance is gone. Used to be you couldn’t have any tints on drivers or passenger's window. Law was passed under home rule for the safety of police officers

5 officers to a single car is a recipe for disaster. Wasn't there a bad crash involving 4-5 officers in a single unmarked car not too long ago in 011 or 015? The lack of leadership is setting these young officers up failure if not worse. But hey go out there in plain clothes and get the bosses numbers to make them look good. No shame in pushing the beat car, learning the job, boys and girls. Another thing that needs to stop is pulling in front of cars to make traffic stops. I must have missed that day of the academy when they showed us how to do that. You can try and say your not boxing someone in all you want but you're leaving yourself open to more problems. These officers are also going to get hammered on activating their bodycams late. You can clearly see them outside their car before they jumped in, taking police action and pursuing the vehicle. That also creates more scrutiny of their story about pulling him over for no seat belt. And as someone else said about the female PO saying the offender was gone is going to made to look like an ass by the family's attorney, not copa if she ever gets called into court about this. Also hard to tell, but did her and her partner not know how to get there because she had to use GPS on her phone.
