still do today.The Black Fire Brigade is just another activist organization with an agenda.Local 2 has been vehemently being bombarded with demands to comment on such a statement by the congressman and black fire brigade.CFD’s fire commissioner and deputy Marc Ferman will not comment on the video despite weighing pressure from the rank and file.Local 2 President should demand answers or statements from CFD brass to reject and renounce such actions take place.
The video evidence on Instagram was taken down within hours of being cited by outraged firefighters.
The cowardice on display by CFD's brass is appalling.
Of course, CFD's version of IAD is still refusing to properly investigate the commissioner who
- was caught on Ring Doorbell cam melting down over an affair...
- whose partner then blackmailed her into hiring her brother...
- who had an outstanding warrant from Colorado...
- who ended up shooting someone during a road rage incident in 020 a few months ago
So we shouldn't be surprised.

I love to say that politicians are just a reflection of the people who vote them into office. If this piece of shit thinks like this it stands to reason the majority of his constituents do as well. Serving a public that genuinely hates you is not a fun career.
If the Fire Commissioner is black, and it seem that she is, then maybe to appease the moron who made these comments, she should staff the black neighborhoods with black firemen and the white neighborhoods with white firemen. This may eliminate his beef. However, there may be a problem in Chinatown.

How many homes of white people have burned compared to those of black people? How many of those black people actually owned the homes that burned? The overwhelming majority of house fires occur in black neighborhoods, be it from arson, ovens and stoves being used as a makeshift furnace, space heaters used in overly cluttered spaces, smoking weed and falling asleep while unattended food or blunt ignites the home, faulty wiring in rundown shitholes, etc. If CFD didn't have to deal with fires in black homes, they'd have about 5 house fires to deal with each year. It also makes more sense to let what was essentially an uninhabitable, somehow not yet condemned home burn, rather than risk lives to save what can't be saved. Firefighters rescue whatever inhabitants are trapped in the fire, and then do their best to keep that fire from spreading to other homes. Saving an already destroyed home from being more destroyed isn't really that big of a concern. The water alone would probably make the homes impossible to save. But let's make everything about race. Maybe the fires are racist. That must be why they pop up so frequently in black homes.
How many white firefighters have died in the recent years at fires in black neighborhoods.
How many black firefighters are working in white neighborhoods ? Maybe stop in 127, or even the ORD rescue stations and see.

Perhaps the handful of minority firefighters who bother in their own neighborhood will speak up & set the record straight about the actions that the firefighters take. Aren’t any because they’re all hiding at the Fire Academy or the airports to avoid helping their own. Perhaps the fire department ‘lets houses burn to the ground’ because they’re too dangerous to enter because of holes in the floor or other bad conditions. Sixteen rigs to a fire on ‘the North Side?’ Perhaps Jackson means the Northeast side that’s loaded with high-rises and demands more units dispatched. Then again, he’s getting all his information from the race-baiter standing next to him who isn’t helping his community because he’s hiding downtown.
So this is what happens when politicians promote individuals like Annette Nance-Holt that have no business even being employed by the fire department let alone put into the top spot. When you watch her news conferences you can clearly see she is very incompetent, but hey , what do you expect from progressive Dems?
Commissioner Holt is in on it and no way is she going to make waves she’s being careful you won’t see a statement from her denouncing Congressman Jackson and demanding an apology. What’s to stop the congressman from contacting the scorned wife about getting a taste of the Ring Cam video as retaliation? Here’s an idea of the credibility and integrity of the Black Fire Brigade. Recently one of their sponsored members got a job with the fire operations side of OEMC. His name was G.C. He lasted two weeks before IDPH discovered he had a fake emergency medical license. All numbers and dates on the license registered to somebody else and in no way shape or form was he somewhat qualified to work there yet he was a black fire brigade sponsored “recruit”.
That’s the integrity of the black fire brigade. They’re a joke. A RAESIST organization that became exactly what they originally set out to eliminate. Nobody wants them anywhere. They are the BLM of the fire service.

I went to the academy, O’Brien street, in 1967. Yes I am a dinosaur but have been a retired dinosaur for 26yrs. We had an instructor back then who was black, bald and arrogant who back then told us that the fire department was racist because they cared more about white people house fires than black. This was when fire trucks were getting shot at, fire houses shot at and firemen on scene were getting shot at. The firehouse at Larabee and Division directly across from the Cabrini Green projects had steel plates over the windows that faced the Greens due to the building being shot at so many times. The instructor said firemen would steal from the black residents at fire scenes but not at whites. Out and out racist ideology so apparently things haven’t changed.
All these rumors about Holt living outside the City. Can’t some one find the address and get a picture of her city owned car out front.
If it is true, that she was given a pass due to the trauma of her “hero” sons death, why can all City workers claim trauma from working in Shitcago ?

Here’s a story from my late 80’s.
Midnights in 003. A residential fire in a three flat.
Top floor. Lot’s of fire pouring out the front.
I was standing near the scene commander and a lady comes running up to him and starts yelling, save my tv.
The fire boss asks if she lives in the apartment. She says yes, save my new tv, just got it today.
Fire boss asks how many people live in the apartment and is anyone still inside. She replied, save my tv I just got it.
Boss asks again is there anyone inside and again she’s yelling about her tv.
Fire fighters find kids in the apartment, they survive, I don’t remember if it was 2 or 3 kids.
The firefighters told me this occurs time to time. Mama can have more kids for free, but belongings cost money.
The irony of all of this, No Jackson family members on the scene, they lived less than 6 blocks away.
White firefighters saved the kids and the rest of the building.

Spot on Capt! Retired CPD here. My friends on CFD would tell me that black FFs would transfer to white houses as fast as possible to get out of the hood. They also told me that if you were white and on the medical towards the end of the year the CFD medical section would purposely keep white FFs on the medical so the abuse numbers by Black FFs wouldnt look so bad.

Some years ago the police department did a study of officers on the medical roll. It was broken down by race, by sex and by reason for being on the roll. The number one users of the medical roll were black females, followed by black males. The department never used or released this study. We saw it because we worked in HQ. The city even tied medical days to days off and to holidays and a clear pattern surfaced.

Congressman Johnathan Jackson was recently recorded at an event with the Black Fire Brigade wherein he made a series of baseless, utterly false and blatantly racist accusations against the members of the Chicago Fire Department and the Chicago Fire Fighters Union, Local 2. Congressman Jackson's despicable and absolutely racist allegations are an abhorrent insult to the fine members of the CFD. In my own over 35 year career, most of it spent in one of the busiest firehouses in Chicago, working with members of all races and ethnic backgrounds, I never once encountered a situation where anyone failed to give it their all because of the race of the victims. I have never spoken to anyone who has.
The Sun-Times has a long and well-established track record of rigorous and exhaustive coverage of any and all race related issues, particularly those pertaining to the Chicago Fire Department, as well as the Chicago Police Department. Past coverage of anything racial regarding the CFD has consisted of relentless front-page coverage, leaving no stone unturned and no racial angle unexplored. I certainly look forward to your meticulous and thorough investigation and reporting on this defamatory and false racial attack on the good name and reputation of the fine and diverse membership of the Chicago Fire Department.

Clearing neighborhood
This whole thing is a PR campaign brought on by the commissioner and the black fire brigade because we're no longer under a consent decree with minority preferred promotions. The only way they can put minorities in front of whites who score higher is in the CBA, Which is why they're pushing it right now. They spoke about it in length at the budget hearings. The rest of the country has scaled back DEI and the city has doubled down. I am embarrassed for them.
Retired CPD here. I seem to remember that back in the late 80's or early 90's, the CFD were hiring the first female FF's. They needed to bring in a marine to work with them and toughen them up. I believe it was ten females and if memory serves me correctly, nine were black women. Weird thing is though, I spent another 30 years on CPD, in Englewood where there were numerous house fires and not once did I ever see a female FF at the scene of a fire. Now the commissioner is a black female? Was she one of the ten women? Asking for a friend.

100% spot on. To those who don’t know when and if there is a fire in the area their slow firehouse is at they take their time pushing out of the firehouse and slow roll it there so the other engine and truck from a further away house gets their first to start all the work. That’s a very low dishonorable move among the fire dept but they do it all the time.

Nothing has changed. On CFD it’s the same statistics. It’s always right before their scheduled furlow, always during the summer months and always right around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Like clockwork. You can bet your paycheck on it. Always the same demographics, too.

Reminds me of a report on the news I saw circa 1990: There was an armed robbery of an ice cream truck near the ABLA homes on the Near West side. The offender(s) shot and killed the driver, and fled the scene. Local residents then swarmed the truck, taking the ice cream while the driver lay dying on the floor of the vehicle. The reporter covering the story appeared to be perplexed by the callous behavior those who stole the ice cream, and asked the female witness he was interviewing about this. Her response: "Poor people like ice cream, too."
