Say it Ain't So

Actually, we could see the City forcing this through in a rush as the one-thousand expected retirements start to stack up:

  • Looks like the 65 retirement age is going to actually happen. It will be retroactive to December 2023. Any officer who retired will have the opportunity to return.

Of course, a 65-year-old in riot gear at the DNC is a whole boatload of medical issues just waiting to happen.

Anyone seen any information on this?

They'd already have happened.

Major psychiatric medical issues.

Huge.

The fight won’t be fair. Cops will be scare crows and protesters will not be intimidated. Anyone planning on working the DNC under current UOF restrictions deserve what they get. Hopefully the department has your back after the lawsuits and complaints start landing.

Hell with the awful physical shape of the CPD a 50 year old in riot gear is a time bomb. By he way what makes you think you will be allowed to wear riot gear? Would not be the impression the Democrats want for their convention. You will without a doubt be to told to stand down and allow the protesters to act out. They do t want a repeat of the Daley crackdown in the park to make international headlines. So retire hit medical or whatever you have to do to avoid becoming a target for the barrage of flying projectiles coming your way. Your regular duty cap will not afford much protection.

1. Step 11 pay bump is also necessary.

2. It will require a power test every year after 63 to be eligible.

3. The officer can can work till 72.

4. 80% pension at 35 years of service to be on relative parity with city workers and state police.

It’s gonna happen in October because of all the State legislative lifts.

How much you gonna pay me Brandon we are ready to go let us know. Here is the team we’re putting it back together.

65? That’s not going to do anything for manpower. Cops rarely stay until 63 unless they got on late. Hell, many don’t even stay until 55. I retired before 55. Just wasn’t worth the risk, being treated like shit, no support from the politicians and brass, cancelled days off, and forced residency. Elrod and the A team...our only hope.

And yet, in 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... the A-Team

Here’s the deal:

Taliaferro (chairman of police and fire committee) pushed it as a way to keep a few more people on the job until Medicare kicks in at 65. The thought is every little bit helps and if there’s a few dozen more people a year (most likely detectives working inside), then it’s not a big safety/health risk. It has to pass the full city council vote on Apr17.

CFD was included but politely said no thanks. Even tho most of their veterans stand back and watch the young guys chop holes in the roof and climb ladders while they bark orders at them, it’s still a far more physical job than being the police, so they stay 63.

How many coppers will stay another 2 years? Very little. And almost all of them will be supervisors in sweet spots, inside people and detectives.

Don’t think so. First you would only be getting 50% of the average of your 15 year seniority pay. Your last 4 average would be at the
15 year because you don’t get 20 year raise until you complete 20 years. Worse if there is a tier 2 because it would be 8 years. 3 of which would be at the 10 year rate. That cuts your retirement pay drastically and makes the 3 % COLA pretty small and it stays the same each year. It’s not compounded and in time the active guys are getting yearly pay raises so for some of us idiots it pays to stay past 20. Insurance is another thing
