Tow Truck Wars?
The fun never ends in the gunfire city:
- Chicago police officers patrolling Bucktown on Sunday morning nearly drove into the middle of a targeted shooting that left one man injured.
Surveillance video provided to CWBChicago shows the gunmen leaving an SUV to carry out the shooting and a Chicago police squad car driving up Damen Avenue as the gunfire—at least 25 rounds—erupts on Shakespeare Avenue.
The shooting, according to multiple sources, stems from ongoing conflicts between tow truck operators. According to CPD reports reviewed by CWBChicago, Sunday’s incident began when the axle broke on a 25-year-old man’s Mitsubishi Eclipse, sending his car into a parked vehicle in the 2100 block of North Damen.
He called for help from a tow truck, which arrived shortly after. Then, just before 5 a.m., the gunmen, believed to be a rival towing crew, pulled around the corner in an SUV. It stopped at the mouth of the alley.
Two men jumped out of the SUV and ran up the alley toward the crash site. One of them carried a rifle. As they emerged from the other end of the alley, the gunman started shooting.
Back in the day, some traffic guys used to pocket "finder fees" for notifying selected tow trucks about traffic accidents. More than a couple went to prison over that.
Then some officers used to target tow drivers for UUW arrests, as it was a safe bet that many drivers carried in the shadier neighborhoods for protection....and many tow drivers were convicted felons as that was one of the only jobs they could get.
Now the drivers are ambushing one another. Careful out there.

Wasn't this a movie in the 80's called Doctor Detroit? Except it was opposing limo companies instead of tow trucks?
Once the radios got encrypted these fucks were not around for a while. Then they would listen to CFD radio and show up to crashes with injuries. Now they're back for any crash way before we get there, and fight over who gets the tow. Do they have the new radios? Did someone give up the encryption key? Are they being tipped by the shitheads they hire now? How do they know there was a crash? Please chime in if you know.
ahhhh....the song,... Lincoln car pirates....
Maybe the car jackers just want to be able to car jack stick shift vehicles and cannot figure out how to work the clutch.
Or, maybe there has developed a market demand for juiced out electrics?

Lincoln Park Pirates live on...
"We break into cars when we gotta
With pick axe and hammer and saw
And they said that this garage had no license
But little care I for the law
All my drivers are friendly and courteous
Their good manners ya always will get
'Cause they're all recent graduates of the charm school in Joliet"
"In Chicago where I live, there's an outfit that'd tow almost anything off the street. They deal mostly with automobile. And we call 'em the Lincoln Park Pirates"
Steve Goodman had their number decades ago.
"...are recent graduates of the charm school in Joliet"
Seems like the fun never ends some people may have it coming to them as they are a bunch of shady individuals to begin with
Everyone is getting into the act.
The tow guys knew to NEVER come to mu accidents. I would write them up before I would start my crash report. They would always say why can't you be like the other guys. I'll pay you for every accident you give me a heads up. One of those other guys retired and the other is in the Traffic Unit.
Territory. A tale as old as time.
Word is out: Auntie Burke ain’t gonna be tough on crime and ain’t gonna put everyone in jail.

Thought it was Lincoln Park Pirates. Anyways, tow wars been going a while, mostly arsons to trucks and garages. Of course, this joke of a state enables tracking these fucks almost impossible with the lax registration of the business's. ICC Police can't even keep track of who the fuck is who.
I struggle to have empathy for tow truck drivers.
Yeah, I remember all the Tow truck nonsense in 025 years back.
A driver called, "Meatball" was always stirring things up.
Just so you know, Tow truck drivers do have access to CPD radio.
Saw one at the Dog Stop on Belmont listening in.

Things that never happened for a $1,000 Alex....
Chicago is a dystopian hellhole.

Lock them up. That’s what we do in the suburbs, it’s a Class 4 felony to show up to an accident scene if they were not called.

I doubt that. CFD radios are digital but not encrypted. There are scanners sold to monitor that. Encrypted? A stolen radio would be locked out of the system and remotely turned into a "brick." Cracking the encryption? Maybe the NSA but not some tow driver or basement hobbyist. Next time you hear one, listen closely it could be a suburban department being monitored or a citywide.
This shits been going on in 008 for years. Also there was a incident where tow drivers were shooting at each other!!!
There was a cop from the 20th district in the 1990's who was arrested forburglarizing and stealing money while on duty. He (DB) got lucky and beat the charge and was re instate and sent back to 20 where this arrogant wanna be gangster then began to sell accidents to bodyshops and sold accident reports to lawyers. Well he began to feel the heat and retired about 2092. To this day Dennis, oops is still a wanna be hood trying to kiss up to some small time local hoods.

Lock them up don’t forget this is a cookCounty just a waste of time. Why bother?
Wait until the next tow truck scandal breaks. When you consider the lowering of hiring standards over the last few years and the way these tow trucks are showing up to scenes like the days before encrypted radios, it almost seems inevitable that it'll happen again
There’s a retired A/3 Detective involved in all that tow truck nonsense. Was a suspect in a shooting up in 016 a few years back. Dirty mfer.
I don’t know who is worse, the bust-out tow truck drivers, or their kissin’ cousins, the board up guys that show up after a fire.
Both are scum of the earth.
