Someone in the comment section suggested that the only way to completely do away with the over-wrought hysteria on traffic stops being used "pre-textually."
- Ticket everyone - all stops are tickets
No more blue TSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS cards that are only used to hammer cops for documenting their jobs - done at the insistence of half-a-dozen different government agencies. You get stopped violating the law or because your vehicle isn't in compliance with existing state or city law, you get a ticket. You can pay it or you can go to court. It's all sign-and-drive anyway. No one is getting their licenses taken any more.
And yes, we understand the attraction of the blue card - you fill it out with the pertinent info, then you have to go into the station and re-enter everything in the system because the mobile PDTs are down or unreliable, so it's time away from answering paper jobs and maybe in-progress events. And god forbid you might actually have to go to court one day a month.

I hated traffic court when I was a kid, hated it more on the job.
If I was on midnights, late arrest about 6:30.
Wish I coulda gone.
I hate traffic court with a passion, so blue cards it is.
Been saying this since they started making us document every T stop... always would tell the new guy don't give them a stat on who you stop, ticket, and don't ticket. No instead give them the stat they can't do anything with that will cause you pain, the stat you write everyone you stop. The only discretion you have is in how many and which tickets you write, period.
Bur that's not cool and they "hate traffic court". Well then don't pull over cars then.
Period!
Back in the "old days," there were no overtime initiatives where you could work an 8-hour shift at 1.5 your hourly rate doing nothing except being seen.
Back then if you wanted to make extra money, you had to do it the old-fashioned way, you had to earn it: tickets for traffic court, one misdemeanor arrest for key date, ANOV for 400 W Superior, domestics and felonies for all other overtime, and leaving the blinders in the trunk to get that late arrest or extended tour. You would also befriend detectives and do some of their legwork to get on the paper for really good cases that taught you the job and got you more court dates.
Drop paper anytime it’s quality down time no jobs no problems!

How about zero traffic stops, zip, nada, none.
How about citations only when actually required, as in scene of accidents?
The only ones affected, applying the quoted strategy, who will pay will be the very citizens who are not engaging in violence. And it doesn't mean dicksquat about getting them pissed off at politicians, there is no win at all in that.
Making zero traffic stops will result in an increase in 'accidents' that will gain both the honest citizens' appreciations and their enlightenment concerning just who police have been impeding by these 'pre-textual' stops and abundantly what said impedings have prevented.
The lesson needed to be learned by honest citizens, the hard way, is that police overwhelmingly utilize these 'pre-textual' actions to reduce the quantity of true assholes shitting upon everyone they cross paths with.
Dunning the honest citizens does nothing good and many things bad.
Any nitpicking numbnuts eager to follow the quoted strategy cannot kiss my ass, as they are too fully engaged in kissing their own.
And sack nuzzling the miscreants of well known meritorious qualities.
Barack Obama promoted the blue card program to smear the department as racists who were stopping more people of color than white people. They demanded more police in those high crime areas as well as the high numbers of calls for service. They knew in advance what the numbers would show. He is devious and clever. Those cards are a waste of everyone’s time.

Court date and OT doesn't hurt as well.
It will still result in a larger % of drivers of color getting tickets. Almost every hood stop if done by the book will result in multiple tickets and impounds, in comparison to Chad in Lincoln Park who has valid DL proof of insurance and up to date stickers. Cuck Goudie and the rest of the low IQ local media will call racism and officers in black & brown majority districts will have to explain why they only give tickets to non whites, regardless of the fact that 100% of the citizens in their districts are not white. Our state, county and city govt want cops to stop pulling over non-whites--full stop. To thr libs, any traffic stop on a person of color is illegitimate and non-white officers can and do racially profile members of their own race. They have been brainwashed by white supremacy. Dems make this argument when complaining about minorities voting for DJT. As we have just seen, a non-white can try to kill an officer on a traffic stop and the officer is still at fault because.. RACISM. RIP traffic stops.
Good idea no more freebies. Think of the revenue you could generate. Pension problem gone ovenight. One problem left, if you are not allowed to chase how you going to stop em to write the ticket.
Twenty+ years ago as a young officer I would give out movers like candy and went to court quite a bit not realizing the benefit of it. That benefit was the skill of TESTIFYING in court. Testifying is a skill you develop through experience and what better way to learn than through traffic court. See if you lose a case there, well, who cares it's just a ticket not a gun, agg.batt. to you or a murder. But things have changed, I'm glad I'm gone.
I am ready to retire! And I agree no more blue cards! Issue a citation for everything you witness and go to court for the citation! When you’re asked in court if you profile? Your statement is clearly, I write every offense I see, and testify in court!!
The new PDTs are quite reliable. I've done many a case report on them. Believe it or not SCC, the Dex system works quite well. Only the real dogasses have to drive into the station to do a report. Usually an old timer who is afraid of technology and blames the computer for their "user error".
Traffic court is on Zoom now, super easy

Not a safe idea to have your head in the PDT while your on the street, even if you have a partner that would watch your six because they will eventually get distracted .. especially with this generation.. after 5 min they too will have their head down looking at their phone.
If you say you would just go to a hidden spot to do your report ... that would be the samething as you going into the station to do the report as you would be out of sight.
Amazing that the CFD chief Holt doesn't have to follow residency requirements too. Kinda like CTU president gets to live in Indiana.
I have done nothing but traffic stops since having to document every traffic or street dtop with dropping paper. .. in the ghetto 9 out of 10 traffic stops are felony stops and your court would be at 26 and cal and not at traffic court. I had one key date and would have only be in trarfic court because I made sure I got my court date for my OT.
If you know how to be the police and stop the right people for the right violations, then you won't be in traffic court anymore then you need for your 3 hours of OT.
Then to top it off, more then likely you would have a court conflict due to you having 26 and cal in the same day and time as your traffic court notification, so you wouldn't be going to traffic court.
So learn the game and its new rules of engagement snow flakes.

Revenue for the city? The prosecutor gets the violator to plead guilty by recommending no fine. They do have to pay the court costs, which goes to the county.
Don't ticket normal people. Hammer anyone without a driver's license.

They haven't been called accidents in over a decade. They're traffic crashes.
Most traffic court is now done via zoom. It’s great! Throw on a blue shirt, call the court section (the worst part), log in to zoom and sit there in your home or wherever (like a pandemic cps teacher!), message the asa and ask if they are going to need you today. If the asa doesn’t dismiss you the judge usually does in 30-45 min. Collect your 3 hrs.

I remember when Sound Impounds started. You would get unlimited amount of court dates in the beginning. Some periods I would have 10 or 12 separate court dates. The city being short sighted then stopped doing it an limited the court dates resulting in fewer people impounds and less overall less revenue because they didn’t want to pay a cop $60 or $70 of court time.
The new PDTs are quite reliable. I've done many a case report on them. Believe it or not SCC, the Dex system works quite well. Only the real dogasses have to drive into the station to do a report. Usually an old timer who is afraid of technology and blames the computer for their "user error".
The new PDTs are shit, they lag and crash all the time and you have to resubmit leads requests sometimes 3x to get a response on vehicle registration, you can’t copy and paste on them, and the mounting systems have to be the most impractical aspect. Writing a report on one in a squad when you get about 10 degrees of turn radius on the keyboard that is fixed in place is a hilarious concept. Who would want to be hunched over in a car dealing with that.

Sounds like the tact guys feel they shouldn’t have to write tickets. If they make a legal stop for a violation of the law why would you not write a ticket to legitimize the stop. Gives you probable cause.no one’s buying the reason that it brings in revenue for the city.

Traffic court is on zoom. So you never have to leave the station or your house. Win win write movers only. Flood court with as many tickets as we can . They have cut personal at the court house and won’t be able to handle it
