The city is moving the Air and Water Show because of the DNC:
The Chicago Air and Water Show will once again put on incredible displays in the skies and waters of Lake Michigan, but the dates were moved due to one of the biggest political events on the calendar.
With Chicago hosting the Democratic National Convention for the first time since 1996, the Air and Water Show will take place one week earlier than normal, according to city officials.
Typically the show takes place on the third weekend of August, but this year the Air and Water Show will take place Aug. 10 and 11, according to the city.
Great idea! Manpower is going to be stretched incredibly thinly, almost to the breaking point, and moving this event make sense....until you go to the Bud Billiken website:

Fuck the Biliken parade, Has been and always will be a shit show, an average of 200 kids missing that day. Its not a race issue its a cultural issue.
Bud Biliken? Yeesh. Nobody who would get within 5 miles of that shit show wants police around anyway so why even commit one officer to it? Let the, uh, parade goers have as much fun as they want. Next day run a road grader over the parade route to remove the trash and room temperature revelers left behind.
It was nice of 600 to leave the Awards Ceremony almost immediately. At least his Admin Sgt, CAPS and DCO Sgt and one of his Watch Sgts could be bothered to stay through half the ceremony. Thank you to the Captain, Lt and one lowly PO for representing a dying District. And this guy is most likely going to be a Deputy soon? Lord help us
I believe we should just do the ENTIRE MONTH on the medical.

Why not combine all three events, the DNC, Air & Water Show & Bud (this Bud's for you) Billiken parade at Jackson Park on the lakefront. What better way to entertain the conventioneers. They can make the pilgrimage to Temple Obama Library at the park since Chicago girl Michelle is going to be the nominee. They are already doing a virtual recording of Biden to be played at the convention. They probably have done a few different scenarios of his speech. The talk is he is definitely not going to be there in person.

Ahhhh Bud Billiken where every teenaged girl dresses in skimpy clothing & gyrates their bodies in ways that would make strippers blush & everyone W/ short eyes from miles around jockey for field position to get a glimpse of what is “supposed” to be a great way to start the school year!!!! Only a few will end up going back to school anyways so why the opportunity to get a bunch of people shot at all!!??!!!!!

I've seen comments like this repeated often on this blog. That kind of a sentiment is grossly irresponsible. We are professionals and we get paid to do our jobs. So do it.
By you going on the medical or IOD during the summer months only hurts your fellow officers. You are not hurting the city, the liberals, the mayor, etc...

They can't move it to that date, because that would put it after the first day of classes that they won't attend anyway. They need their school supplies before their first week of absence, in order to be prepared to not learn anything. Plus you've gotta figure in a few buffer days for the strike.

True story: while assigned to Area 1 I was the poor soul who got detailed to the Bud show. As I stood at roll call the infamous Maryanne Perry, commander at the Deuce, asked me why no black detectives were assigned. I said, no volunteers and I have least seniority so here I am. She was pissed. Told me to go back and have them send her a black detective. Said no problem. Slowly made my way back to the area and told boss what she said. Well, that was cool cause I never went back and nobody was sent. Try telling a black copper to go back and have them send a honkie, it would never be done.
Let's face it, America is nothing but a banana republic. Trump convicted, whether you like him or hate him, this whole thing was a political witch hunt like one would see in some African or Latin American country. Chicago is a deep blue dem shit hole. And no that ain't gonna change. And it all depends on who counts the votes and we know how that goes don't we. Perry has been gone for close to 20 years now. Stop trying to incite a race divide. Some Blacks don’t like patrolling the Bud, just like some Whites don’t like patrolling St. Patty Day parades. Go back into your hole. We’re all we have.

Many years ago, we were detailed to one of the fests and then Lt. Perry told our Sergeant that he was not to come to another detail in her district without "persons of color" on the team. Funny, our "person of color" was on furlough at the time but even the Sgt. knew not to get into a pissing match with her.
06:21 PM…..I believe that was the same year that Perry sent her tact teams, all black home after the parade was over and left all visiting teams there for 14 plus hours. Our radios were dead and she refused to get us replacement batteries. I had several detectives assigned to my team who just left after 12 hours. What a shit show and what a piece of shit Perry was/is!

There’s only so many times you get fucked over by some jag off boss with disregard to your safety and or well being.
Case on point - start time 0700 , fixed post for parade, no relief, 1700 end of parade, 1700- 2300 respond to idisturbance calls, man with gun calls, pissing in public calls, loud music calls, missing children calls etc… and hopefully released by the black in district tact Lt while their own Officers are partying it up with the community. All in , no lunch, no place to go to the bathroom and definitely no place to take a break off your feet. Numerous times there to watch the shit show, I’m done and will never experience it again.

I heard the stories of officers who were "volunteered" to work that parade. Both PO's and Detectives.
From the complete jack-assery of the parade viewers to the multitude of children abandoned by their parents near the missing persons tent just so CPD could "babysit" their kids while mom and pop could party down during the parade, and then show up later all drugged up and drunk to pick up their kids. Many of them told of the long work day, and the lack of personal considerations to the "volunteer".
I made the personal resolution then to "never" work that detail. It's not what I signed up for...I worked on plenty of details throughout the years. Some good, some bad. But somehow, I never got detailed to that debacle. Believe me, I had a plan to make sure that never happened. Todays officers will have to endure things that they didnt sign up for. May G-d help them...
The racist undertones of the stories told above tell me that I made the right decision.

If I got detailed to that shitshow ever again, I would just leave after 8 hours...if questioned later I would say that my radio was dead, and there was no supervisor in sight to notify of my sudden onset of diarrhea from eating "soul food" that needed immediate medical attention.
Write, me up, suspend me or let it drop. I don't care anymore...We will deal with it when I get off the medical roll.
