Retiree Killed

This article (and others) does not do justice to the man:

  • A retired Chicago police officer and Transportation Security Administration officer was shot to death Thursday morning in West Garfield Park, authorities said. The 73-year-old was found about 11:30 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds in the 4300 block of West Monroe Street, Chicago police said.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was identified as Larry Neuman of West Garfield Park by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A person was arrested at the scene of the shooting and was being questioned by detectives, police said.

Neuman was a bomb technician who retired in 2010. He worked at the police department for 28 years.

A US Marine, veteran of the Vietnam War, we believe the first African American bomb tech in Chicago, Color Guard Sergeant for the Pipes and Drums, and after retiring continued teaching bomb techs at both airports. He was also an ordained minister at the church located in the 011th District near where he lived and was accosted.

We met Larry many times and a kinder gentleman you'd be lucky to run across. His contact number is still in our cell phone. That he remained in the community long after retiring is a testament to his dedication to service - in the military, in the police department and in his church.

God bless you and your family Larry. You will be missed.

Semper Fi! I understand that no one has our back. But... If you wear a CPD uniform, especially if you wear the USMC EGA with that uniform you better take a look in the mirror. It's time to fight back. Fuck the politicians, the States Attorney, and the morons who scream in the streets defending people who shoot at the police. Let's make criminals accountable. We owe it Neuman and his family. It's time to stop being fetal and be the officers we swore we'd be. Our oath trumps the politics and haters. Accountability must happen for law and order to prevail. We need strength in numbers

That’s what’s wrong with society now, it’s so fucked up ! May God rest his soul and give his family comfort knowing he was a good man .

Nothing we say can do this patriot justice. From a Marine reconnaissance point man in Vietnam, to a pillar of his community, he can never be replaced. Working with him over the past 10 years has been a blessing. Larry was everything that I wish all Americans could be, but never will. He not only lived in his community he supported it, getting people jobs, supporting them, and giving them spiritual mentorship. Larry, my brother in arms, we love you and you and you will never be forgotten. God bless you and your family. Semper Fidelis!

I never understood why people stay (if they have the means to move) in neighborhoods that aren’t safe. But I had relatives that did. I have an ex whose mom raised 6 kids and was widowed very young who also chose to stay in a changing neighborhood; even after dozens of offers from her kids to find her another home or to move with them. It was her family home; she had memories attached to it. Ditto with another elderly friend. But now, I’m getting up there. Sometimes, I tell myself, okay- start looking. Other days, this has been my home for 25 years. We are all prone to criticize others, but all many ever try to do is make their neighborhood a better place and not give into the shit. RIP to this officer. Sad, that’s how he left this world but probably a testament that he went out probably defending his neighborhood.

RIP Sgt. Whenever I see someone wearing specifically a Vietnam veteran hat, shirt or license plate I make SURE I go up to them & thank them for their service!! The way some people treated those veterans was a sad time in our countries history. But reading in your article about the man showed that whoever wrote the article really thought highly of this man. Sadly we never met. Thank you sir for your service to this country & to your city. May God touch his family with his healing hand.

The yutes of this 21st century, being the spawn of the shitheads of the ass end of the past century, both weaned upon rap crap, thug life, moochereries, gangsterings, etc., are proven unsalvagable as civilized human beings.

Beyond salvation in this world.

Repent is not in their vocabulary, nor is go and sin no more.

I had the pleasure of attending one of his trainings last month. We chatted over having worked in some of the same districts and knowing some of the same old timers even though he retired a few years before I got on. I remember saying when will you finally retire yet he had such a positive outlook on his post retirement career and hobbies it was infectious. A jaded retired officer he was not. To think he was in his 70’s I would have never known. So youthful. Such a nice guy. Sad day for the department.

To the officer living in Englewood. You’re smart to stay there at this point. So many Mexicans have moved into englewood that your neighborhood will be valuable again very soon. The Mexican people will keep their houses nice and bring restaurants and other businesses back to the neighborhood. Who knows, ten years after that you might even see a few urban pioneers moving back in.

For anyone who knew Larry he was the Gold Standard of kindness, knowledge, wisdom and faith. I had the pleasure of talking with him almost everyday while at the airport and instantly knew he was the kind of man, policeman and neighbor we all aspire to be. I never heard him swear or talk negatively about anything or anyone. When is enough enough and people rise up instead of lay down to combat this brazen cult of evil and political malpractice that enables the collapse of civilized society. Don’t let a good man just die in vain as a meaningless statistic but use this nightmare as a rallying call for justice, change and respect in communities regardless of color, religion or socioeconomic staus. Right now the city of Oakland is introducing a petition to withdraw an ineffective and criminal coddling Mayor. Like Oakland use this horrible tragedy as a springboard for change and start the same petition here. In the current battle between Good and Evil unfortunately Evil is the 1927 Yankees and Good the 2024 White Sox. If not now…when? R.I.P. Larry and prayers for family.

We reconnected and on an annual basis our Platoon would go to Phoenix every year in October to

I asked Larry why he stayed in the hood? He answered "to set an example to the young folks

To the Black Officer living in Englewood, I commend you for standing up and actually caring about your family, block and city. I live in 016 in a neighborhood that is slowly racially changing and has also been blessed to know most of my neighbors for 30 years. We are going through a transitional period of our most senior neighbors dying and their children selling the older outdated houses as a workman’s special, in turn young couples of all races are moving in and accepted into our block family. We need more officers like you instead of snide comments from PO’S who probably live in their parents basements. Larry was and will always be a role model, educator and kind hearted man who stood up to create change when so many men of his race take a knee and don’t affect anyone’s life. God Bless you to the officer and there is NO DOUBT where Larry is. This is a special guy that should be honored for service to his country, faith, family and made everyone around him a better person.

This is precisely the country for old men.

Old men have lived a life. Thoroughly.

Old men have valid reasons to not tolerate shitheads, and the experiences to privide those life lessons to the fuck around, find out equation.

The older the man, the more free to provide said lessons to the shitheads.

And, old men know not to dilly dally, to scoot in a timely manner.

Old men don't give a fuck about being judged by 12, know they will soon be carried by 6, and know how to avoid the former and accept the latter.

Old men can, should they choose to, do this for the children.

There is no community in these communities, only commonalities of criminalities.

The only helpful thing for the very young in these areas is to leave these areas and never look back.

Toxic very young humans cannot be de-toxified while remaining saturated with the toxins they are immersed in by being in these areas.

Practically before reaching puberty, certainly not much longer thereafter, the toxicity is imbued too thoroughly for de-toxification.

For these, many as they are, salvation, of wet fart value to them, may be attainable, after their tainted souls leave this life.

If not, too fucking bad, for them.

Hey, I’m retired. Can I dump my old uniforms near the DNC just before it starts?
Add to the confusion.

Sure. Just make sure the city flags are not upside down. Good luck with that. Ha!

I just watched a channel 5 news clip about Larry Nueman. They can't find someone else from the department beside Gene Roy to say some kind words about Larry? What the FUCK. Of all the retired CPD members that knew Larry they interview the most disingenuous pos they could find. I can't find the words to express my anger. That idiot should not be allowed be to speak as a representative of CPD, especially the Bomb Squad. I was proud to work with and supervise Larry. Roy keeps putting himself in front of the camera thinking he can be relevant. He's a total narcissist.

God bless Larry. May are reest in peace with the Lord

Biden, obama, Pritzker, and the Chicago and Crook County Democrat Politicians are fully responsible for the rampant crime and violence in our city, state, and Country, and the people who voted for them all have blood on their hands too
Above is true , but the problem is many victims, family of victims, neighbors of victims voted for all the above responsible for crime in the Hood.
