Good For You Kid

Wounded in Chicago, cop makes his way to the 'burbs:

  • “I am God!” the big man screamed out the window of an apartment in the 1300 block of South Lawndale Avenue. “I am the man!” Then, he started singing. What the Chicago Police Department calls a “domestic disturbance.” A particularly dangerous situation for police to walk into, accounting for nearly a quarter of the murders in Chicago.

Officer Angelo Wells Jr. and his partner had just come off a call and were leaving the 10th District station. They headed to the scene. Four more officers arrived. It was just after 3 a.m. Aug. 5, 2020.

“Why don’t you come down and talk to us?” Wells called up, framing the 33-year-old man in his flashlight beam. The man, on PCP, stopped singing, and started spitting at them.

“Are you guys going to come up and help me?” a woman yelled from somewhere inside the apartment. A Chicago Fire Department ambulance arrived. Wells walked over to brief the paramedics on the situation.

Five shots, in quick succession. Ta-ta-ta-ta-ta. Wells took cover behind the ambulance.

The second set of shots shattered the Officer's femur, resulting in an extensive hospital stay, months of rehab and most likely a lifetime of discomfort.

And then he got a call from Northbrook, a suburb where out of a force of sixty-five, eight are from Chicago including the chief. The citizens seem to appreciate their police (they wave using all five fingers) and if anyone got shot up that direction, it would be the first time in years - not hours.

That cops are retiring in massive numbers isn't a surprise. What is surprising are the number leaving in the middle of their careers, walking away from Chicago politics and anti-police agendas. It's a phenomenon that hasn't been seen before, and this article gives a bunch of insight into why.

I don't get the point of this story. Is it the fact that the officer has to still work?? The mentals we are risking our careers for aren't working?
A retired officer was killed today! 2 cops have been killed coming home from work in just over a year. These fuckers come at me, I'm at risk of going to jail because I'm the police and had to defend myself, but race will all of a sudden play a role.
I'm pushing for a residence lift. It's the only way CTU will lose their power. Their defending these criminals in spite of the police, and basically this country. If the city and county's polices are putting us at risk then why do we have to live here. If anything it will raise awareness of the fact that this county and state allow criminals to harm us without recourse.
Before every one says blah blah blah. I'll take the loss on my property when selling. Taxes are already going up for what? Reparations, illegals, things that won't even go to people in need. It's time to fight back. At least fight it in court. Can we do something. If we push back, we will be heard. It's our only choice.

I remember the shooting. It took place during the public demand for cops to deescalate situations. Officer Wells didn't have a chance to do that. Instead, he caught a bullet. I am glad he survived the shooting and found another community to serve.

I’m happy for the officer. May you have a blessed Career in the burbs. A lot of officers working in Chicago will have a messed up nervous system as they get older. All the violence police witness is not normal. Now when you shot someone who is trying to kill you, your expected to bandage them up and attempt to save their life. How much damage will this do to your mind. Talk about a Post traumatic stress disorder being put on to officers by bad policy. Instead of hiring peace interrupters. How about hiring war medics. They just put everything on our shoulders. Some of these districts have been war zones. There are few good districts. Even military combat troops get rotated out of the combat zone. Not in Chicago. You are excited to keep doing it day in, day out. No wonder less police officers are telling their loved ones to become one of Chicago’s Finest.

I didn’t want to even start mentioning the lack of leadership and or shit bosses. Chicago is lost. In 30 years people living in Chicago will talk about these where the good years. Chicago is on a collision course with distraction.

Definitely not a fan of suntimes but have to admit well written article, God bless this copper there is sunshine in this state places that respect police unlike here where the politicians set the hate police tone! Another reason recruitment is rapidly waning and we are scraping the bottom of the barrel for coppers! Ridiculous what this department has become then looking at top down management joke we are the laughing stock of agencies in the country. Hate to see pension contributions leave but can’t blame them!

CFD medics are also doing the same. Less police. More call volume more of their runs are getting more violent and dangerous more mandates due to less paramedics applying for CFD which means more and more engine/truck downgrades while current medics are going to the suburbs where pay is also competitive and they don’t have to deal with the usual suspects all day long.

Hope everyone is working on an exit plan. The Chicago we once knew is never coming back.

This officer is the real deal. Hire 1000 just like him.
Officers that go through the same and then claim disability are the problem.
Those officers rob us while living a fantastic life at 75% pay with tax breaks and side businesses that flourish because they now have time to grow them.

Chris Kennedy couldn’t lead a team of baggers at jewel. Good luck to anyone who transferred to northbrook, cuz as soon as you say or do one thing that little pea brain doesn’t like, he will attempt to make your a life a living hell. Just ask his ex-wife why she has tens of dozens of stalking and harassment case reports on him. I’m sure little princess Chris is pulling the same disgusting behavior in the northern suburbs.

Public/private functions-

No one needs to see your Badge and Gun popping out when your dressed as a civilian-
No one gives a damn if you are an officer!!

Stop being a potential target - If i was a criminal hell bent on killing-
You would be my first target!!!

There is no other Agency laughing at you or CPD. Real cops wouldn’t do that.
Nothing funny to laugh about.
But there is sympathy for what the fabulous CPD Officers deal with, day in-day out.

Please remember, you matter to those that matter!

The curve to KMA has grown steeper and steeper every year. I genuinely feel bad for these kids. Many are coming out of the Academy excited to work, get told they’re “doing everything the right way” and not to listen to the older coppers. Within a year or two none of them want to do a damn thing. The BS on this job just piles up too high too quickly. I’m limping to 20, not sure what I’ll do once I hit that marker? It’s not far off.

This is all by design, we will be seeing a national police force “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.” a quote from Obama from years ago.
Mission almost accomplished. This is probably why we are seeing all of these military aged illegals pouring into the country.

We owe the city, the Police Department leadership (merit hacks) and the citizens nothing. Conehead fosters a disrespectful, hostile and corrupt work environment. They voted for this corrupt system of government and his village idiots administering this haphazard style of government. Chicagoans deserve all that you voted for - more murders, maiming's and violence. You and Conehead deserve each other. Be sure to thank a Democrat for all they do for you.

In the meantime, for police officers working in this hostile and dangerous environment do what's best for you and your family. You do not owe anything to the city and its citizens as they voted for this insanity over and over again. Let them reap the fruits of their votes and feel the losses of their loved ones. They own it.

Thank you for your service and congratulations on retirement. Maybe for the 29 years leading up to 2015 you felt supported, but I know Ofc. Wells and a couple other officers who are at Northbrook pd and they tell a different story in regards to the government officials in Northbrook. A couple even said if you’re looking to lateral, look elsewhere. Better than CPD, but there are much better suburban departments to work for. Goverment officials, terrible management, and limited opportunities, seem to be the problem.

From what I have heard silver spoon Kennedy has brought the same horrible way CPD operates to Northbrook, so anyone who laterals from CPD will feel at home. Surround himself with yes men and fall guys, do as I say, not as I do, and taking care of those who kiss the ring. Same shit he pulled here. Those who are willing to play that game will tell you he is great to work for. Kudos to Ofc. Wells for making a better life for himself and family.

Would you join a different company just to learn only the CEO liked you but not the workers/bosses to make your life absolutely miserable? Minus a few departments(in IL alone), a lot of these suburb departments openly talk shit/treat/interact with Chicago coppers like we are absolute idiots of the department we are in. Don't think the coppers coming back to CPD was over something non-relevant. The discpline is joke elsewhere compared to CPD's BIA/COPA/city hall hellhound dog. Don't confuse yourself with the "discipline" is why they came back because any copper would know discipline is the reason coppers come back.

If anything, leaving this state would probably be the smartest idea to police because MOST states are better than IL when it comes to policing through state legislature.
