Bad Idea L.A.

Good thing we only steal policing ideas from New York, because the left coast ideas are just goofy insane:

  • This week, the [Los Angeles] City Council authorized a study to figure out how to do just that [taking sworn officers out of traffic enforcement.]  — while adding more speed bumps, roundabouts and other street modifications to reduce speeding and unsafe driving.

"I think the city of Los Angeles can lead the nation," said Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson, one of the proposal's early champions.

In a 13-0 vote, the council directed city transportation staff and other departments to come back within 90 days with feasibility reports about the cost and logistics of a series of proposals including: creating unarmed civilian teams to respond to certain traffic issues and investigate accidents; limiting fines in poorer communities; and ending the use of stops for minor infractions such as having expired tags or air fresheners hanging from the rear-view mirror.

If we recall correctly, the most dangerous police activity after domestic disturbances, is anything involving a traffic stop/crash/enforcement. Not where you want to be sending unarmed unprepared teams....unless it's like two or three days later.

And we've been seeing the results of not enforcing traffic laws for the past few years and it ain't pretty with pedestrian deaths skyrocketing and insurance rates rising faster than Bidenflation.

Here is a great LA Story:

Now she states LA is terrible.

WELL BITCH, this is what you communist assholes wanted. Now deal with it.

What got me was 13 city council members. For a city the size of LA…. Maybe we should do some copying and get rid of some alderman positions

Wasn’t Timothy McVeigh the Oklahoma City bomber caught over a minor traffic offense, expired plates?

This is right out of the democratic commie playbook, no pretextual stops and lesser fines for some and full fines for others, based on community, which is really just about race; whitey will pay full fines and people of color won’t.

As soon as this passes here I’m done registering and displaying plates, getting a city sticker, or following any type of traffic law. If it’s good enough for them I’ll play the game.

Sit back and watch it burn, at this point it has to before any semblance of normalcy and order return. It’s their world let them fester in what they created with their democratic votes.

A little off topic on the post but notice the vote was 13-0. LA has more people than us but only 13 council members. Why do we need 50 of these useless pustules.

Why don’t they just come out and tell us they don’t want us to do traffic stops anymore. It would make all our lives much easier. I don’t have to make any stops at all if that’s what ya’ll want.

The interesting part of this story is the fact that LA has 3 million people and a geographic area twice Chicago and their city council has 13 members. 13. We have 50. Think of the budget saving right there.

Traffic stops what is that? You can even drive the expressways tollways like the autobahn in Germany fast as you want, the chiraq area makes the fast and furious look like a bumper car ride at the carnivals! Lawlessness especially in crook county is definitely acceptable because democrat are liars and want the criminals to be held up as examples!

The Left condones bad behavior of all types as the solution is always a useful wedge in limiting the rights of the lawful. This is a feature of Leftist politics, not a bug.

The interesting parts of these two chuckleheads' comments are:

1. It took 13 to vote this nonsense into policy/law. 13 to 0.

2. Were our city council of 50 to not vote lockstep with the progressives, effectively lockstep as a piddling few may occasional bleat out, 'nay', amongst the chorus of 'yay's', that 13 progressives would be squashed summarily.

3. The greater the population of a given city council elected office, the less that city council member gives a fuck about any of the minority residents', not by race minority, but by ballots cast not for said aldermutt, concerns.

4. A genuine, authentic city council would not be doing what these current, and all past, city councils do, acting as if Richard J. Daley is still the Boss. Not one of our subsequent mayors has ever been close to this rubber stamp Boss era of city government. So, why do they still act as if any of our past mayors, let alone this pig brained mutt mayor, is to be rubber stamped on any of his agendas?

5. Divide each of the 50 wards in half, by population, double the city council to 100, split the current pay between each two of the formerly single ward, no increased cost to taxpayers, twice as many council members to say, sincerely, fuck you the the mayor and his minions, and an added fuck you to crook county's bent board of shitbrains.

Only bent politicals and/or idiots would want fewer elected members on our city's legislative branch's purse strings authorities.

And complete morons think that any taxpayer monies 'saved' are in any way gonna benefit any taxpayers, whatsoever.

Doubling the city's number of wards, by halfing each ward by population count, opens up 50 no incumbent elected positions. An opportunity for non uniparty/democrat/rino individuals to compete with uniparty candidates without an incumbent's advantages.

That 50% + 1 for the clean win on first round elections is beatable. Beatable to compel the 1 on 1 run off election and beatable when contest is between the inevitable uniparty tainted shitbrain candidate and a freshly emerging pissed off actual resident of each now reduced wards.

Grass roots means actual residents.

Actual residents means us.

J

limiting fines in poorer communities

Traffic fines in California are outrageous. Here’s the deal. A person runs a stop light and gets a tag. The fine is $100 bucks or so. The violator can go to court and plead some mitigation and the magistrate can reduce the fine, but the magistrate can’t reduce the penalty assessments that can add up to over $500. The assessments fund police training, night court, courthouse construction, driver education and a host of worthwhile project, but projects that should be general fund costs.

A guy like me, and most of the people who read this blog, can afford a $500 ticket without having to substitute water for the milk on our morning cornflakes, but the poor buy working at the 7-11 shouldn’t have to lose a weeks pay running a stop sign.

Back in the olden days of my youth I, and my department, told our deputies to not write a ticket when a warning would suffice.

You hard charges might be offend, but a traffic fine should not have the purpose to generate general fund revenue, but to encourage safe driving.

Traffic circles/roundabouts are SO much of an improvement! I got to see the rearranging of the fancy landscaping in the middle of one in beautiful South Holland. Yup...right up and over the curbs more than once. In summer and winter.
166th & South Park Avenue. They should have put up traffic signals and all-around traffic cameras.

Please tell me what the hell do you do when you make that stop at 2:00am ask for License, Insurance and Proof of Registration with four guys in the car and they Say F--k You. No gun, no back-up and maybe even no vest. Ain't no way in HELL.

The correct answer it to make the fines reasonable for all.
There is nothing as corrosive to the social contract is selective enforcement of laws based on some
“ intersectional victim status”.

I'm not a cop and I don't like 'pretextual stops', but, if they want to stop pretextual stops, wouldn't it make more sense to just remove the minor infractions that cops can use for pretextual stops rather than constantly re-jiggering what cops can and can't use as justification for a stop?

An air freshener on the rear view mirror is either a safety hazard or its not. If its not . . . then just stop making it illegal. No need for 'ok, you can stop people for these things *in rich neighborhoods* but not in the poor ones'. No need to make cops have to deal with where to draw these lines.

But really, they don't want to have the responsibility. Doing so would mean someone could use that against them in the next election. Better to do it this way so they can blame the cops.

Don't tell that to the asshole coppers in the burbs and outside of Chicago, they live off tickets and their guzzling writing. No one gives a shit at the end of the day if you write a ticket today or tomorrow only the asshole boss who wants to fire you.

I would just like to point out roundabouts suck.

Many drivers can't manage 4 way stops safely yet we are supposed to believe they can go through a roundabout without carnage.

My limited experience with roundabouts, since they are mercifully rare where I live, is you have to come to a complete stop several times to avoid accidents.
This is because most drivers think they are the only car on the road.
