A valiant effort by....the police of all people:
- A 7-year-old boy was shot and killed on Chicago’s Near West Side Tuesday, a victim of what police called “random gunfire.”
[...] SkyCam9 flew above the scene in the 2300 block of W. Jackson following reports of shots fired just after 3 p.m. Chicago police Supt. Larry Snelling said Tuesday evening during a press conference that the boy was walking out of his home to visit a neighbor next door when shots rang out.
“This child was walking out of their residence and was struck by gunfire,” Snelling said.
The boy received aid from arriving officers. Officers ultimately put the child in the back of the squad car and rushed him to the hospital, but despite life-saving efforts, the child was later pronounced dead.
Snelling called gun violence in the city “unbearable and unacceptable.”
“We are losing our children and we really need to think about the gun violence that is going on in this city,” he added. “We all need to step up to try and fight this gun violence to try and save our children.”
Truly a tragedy, and everyone claims to be outraged, but they aren't even camping on street corners like the aldercreature by St. Sabina.

When I worked in that district about 7 years ago, that housing complex was always a problem. I was never sure if the large fence was to keep the crime out or keep the crime inside. To see the great mayor standing there saying our parks are open, like that is going to stop crime. He has no FKN clue on what to do.

I'm not a gun guy, but I agree. It's a copout and a way to deflect blame. Lightfoot got away with talking about guns for four years, and never made a dent in the problem. I'm old enough to know Americans as a whole aren't going to give up their guns (especially those in surrounding states), so you'd better have a Plan B. And if you don't have a Plan B, you have no business being in the mayor's office.

With all of the people of color who find themselves to be elected or appointed “leaders” on this Juneteenth holiday, would it not be appropriate and true leadership; if they were to call out their communities to end their violent behaviors and the subsequent devastating effects which are the result.
As Juneteenth celebrates the last of the slaves being set free and ending a truly horrible time in American history, it is our current leadership of color who could, if courageous enough; stand-up and speak the words which would hold their own, responsible for their actions. After all, even the most cursory review of crime in Chicago will show the perpetrators and their victims to overwhelmingly be persons of color.
It is time for these leaders to stop their irrelevant and nonsensical speeches about how they care about the migrant crisis or other “hip” topics, yet they do nothing at all to protect the people who elected them, from the devastation of crime. Even the current camping out to end violence actions by Ald. David Moore of the 17th Ward, falls short. While Ald. Moore is taking the issue of violence personally and seriously, he is not taking the extra steps of pointing the finger of blame at those who are responsible for the crime. This violence is not at the hands of interlopers to these communities but by residents of these communities.
We also do not need the rhetoric of the violence being caused by the gun manufacturers el al, which tries to re-direct the responsibility of violence to corporate / White America. Again, this is just another attempt to deflect the blame for crime away from those who make the informed decision to pick up a gun and use it to avenge some perceived affront to their dignity. Of course these actions do not limit themselves to the intended target, but often result in collateral damage to innocent by-standers. In reality, we are ALL collateral damage as we must bear the financial devastation which crime brings to society. Can you imagine how
flush with money our government agencies would be if our tax dollars did not need to go to the costs of violence which is completely preventable if the drivers of violence would cease their behavior.
Just my thoughts as we celebrate a day which has significance to the United States but even more significance to the African-American communities. Let’s get our leaders to direct their efforts to end violence in the name of Juneteenth, instead of just using the day to organize picnics, as we often see the Juneteenth social gatherings erupt into violence.

If you don't want black children to be killed, tell black people to stop shooting them. That won't happen though. Just more excuses and mislaid blame. Can't hold those responsible for the violence accountable. That would be racist.
After the ivory tower camera ready "representatives" are gone.
Our Yaweh will not forget what these incredible officers did that day. You are blessed. You were called to be there for this boy and hold his hand.
My praise to the Officers, you did everything humanely to save the boy.
