Stupid Games, Stupid Prizes

Utica, New York in the news regarding a police shooting....and the community is upset:

  • Video released late Saturday shows an officer in upstate New York fatally shooting a 13-year-old boy who had been tackled to the ground after he ran from police and pointed a replica handgun at them.

The teen was killed a little after 10 p.m. Friday in Utica after officers in the city about 240 miles (400 kilometers) northwest of Manhattan stopped two youths in connection with an armed robbery investigation, police said.

The youths, both 13, matched the descriptions of the robbery suspects and were in the same area at around the same time the day after, police said. One was also walking in the road, a violation of state traffic law.

Matching given descriptions, walking in the road, the cops stopped them to investigate. Then the replioca firearm comes into play:

  • The body camera video released by police captures an officer saying he needs to pat them down to ensure they don't have any weapons in their possession. Immediately one of the two, identified by police as as Nyah Mway, runs away.

Authorities froze frames of the video where a running Nyah Mway appears to point the gun at the pursuing officers. Police also edited the video to insert a red circle around the weapon to show it to viewers.

The officers believed it was a handgun, police said, but it was later determined to be a replica of a Glock 17 Gen 5 handgun with a detachable magazine.

[...] The replica gun carried by the teen "is in all aspects a realistic appearing firearm with GLOCK markings, signatures, detachable magazine, and serial numbers," Lt. Michael Curley, a police spokesperson, said via email. "However ultimately it fires only pellets or BB's."

So a completely identical toy pistol with markings, numbers, coloring and built with a detachable magazine is pointed at cops, so cops respond as trained to a deadly threat.

Too bad, so sad (not) for the dead offender.

But community isn't happy, and the ultimate fear is that this and other cases will one day be used to require officers to actually be shot before responding, just so everyone is sure it's a real gun.

The fuck around and find out theory came true. Don't point guns, especially a pellet gun that looks exactly like a real firearm, especially at night at a LEO. This goes against the narrative, police bad, shitbag kid with gun good.

In fairness, police officers (frequently) carry well-maintained firearms loaded with quality ammunition. They are also trained to use firearms. Don't you think it reasonable that the officer should have stopped the offender and determined if he was having some sort of misfire or mechanical malfunction with his firearm, and then fix that failure to fire, before firing himself? (Sarcasm, should there be any doubt)

The “community.” LMFAO!

Them pellets, propelled by CO² catridge, can easily put out an eye and may even be capable of slipping into the skull to brain via really bad luck and the portion of the skull where the optic nerve bundle passes through.

Someone not as lazy as I may post the forensic assessments of the potential damage, especially at close range, that the ballistics these pellets can achieve.

How does the ballistics of CO² powered pellet guns compare to the ballistics of the .22 caliber short cartridge?

The issue may be primarily the false one of the common public vs the reality one, perception during real time occurence, yet, the danger of being shot may well be similiar in the impact damage potential.

The animals that are 13 today are definitely not the same as years ago! Being brought up by obviously urban terrorists, the folks/people are a different animal! Get judged by 12 or carried by 6 that mathematically is easy!

Regarding BB/ Pellet Guns, Replicas, Theatre Prop Guns, Damaged Guns, Guns missing parts, etc.
There was an incident, a few days before the Van Dyke/ La Quan McDonald event, in which a Member of the Community had a stolen
Pistol, a stolen Pistol that had no magazine.
When the Member of the Community, pointed this at CPD, he was appropriately and justifiably shot. ( I believe he is currently driving a wheelchair.)
There was a minor uproar since “... he didn’t have no bullets in the Gun! How he spozed to shoot if he ain’t got no bullets in the Gun...”
And then along came La Quan to take up media attention.

Ignoring the fact that there could be a round in the chamber, I challenge anyone to determine if a magazine is seated... at about 0100 in a parking garage..

There will be a dedicated attorney (some might call an ambulance chaser) that will pursue this incident and sue the officer/city for damages. Hard to believe there are some cities that settle lawsuits, no matter how justified the officers' actions were.

It doesn't matter if it was caught on body cam! Them PO-Leases is supposed to get shot first!

Wait, that just happened to CPD on a t-stop and it was ALL caught on camera and the Po-Leases are still wrong!

Ask the kid who shot the mental that attacked him with the baseball bat.

Ask the copper who chased the yute who was caught on camera firing a gun at a passing motor vehicle. He gave chase and his body cam caught the kid turn towards him with a pistol in his hands.

Ask the copper that had his vehicle stolen by an escaped handcuffed prisoner who then proceeded to drag him several feet causing grievous injuries. That was all on camera too.

Simon taught us in the 1980's that, "The only winning move was not to play."

It's over, Johnny. It's over.

Whoever are the complaining community “stakeholders” need to be eliminated from that community themselves. We need no more big mouths in our communities shooting off their mouths with their personal opinions that cause social unrest. Hopefully people will take it upon themselves and silence these people. It’s about time to silence these disruptors.

A CO² compressed gas "toy" is not a toy. Not a firearm, yet can do damage to flesh, as many a rodent would tell you, if they weren't dead. Pellet or BB, or even the illustrious paintball, have kinetic force far more than a toy.

Made to look so much like authentic firearms, in most every way, the brevity of observational opportunity precludes any reasonable person from determining they are not actual firearms.

The best advice anyone can offer to children is this:

When your appearance is seen as being old enough to know better, you better do better, because adults, any adults, do not grant you the child's privilege of innocence of not knowing better.

Plus, the laws applied by law enforcers and law adjudicators, aka, police and courts, do not apply to civilians' actions in reaction to your actions, aka the laws of physics.

The pure essence of the phrase, fuck around and find out.

Kid did a weapon check just before he ran. His hands were up and then came down, but he did not hold them naturally at his side, he touched the front area of his hoody checking if his weapon was there. Watch the video you young Grasshoppers on the job. That should have been the first indicator to the officers that he might have been armed, especially after matching the descriptions of two subjects who committed an armed robbery. Closely watch the kid's behavior up until he runs. He gives many clues about being armed and looking for an escape route.

This should be a training video for all officers to watch. No blame at all to the officers. I'm glad they survived. But guaranteed that the officer who fired had that moment in his brain when he really believed that he or his partner was about to be killed and had to make a split-millisecond decision to use lethal force. I pray for him, not that community or the deceased family. Police chief and mayor were sickening to watch apologizing and praying for everyone but the involved officers.
