FOP Sues COPA
We'll see how far it goes in this crooked town, but all other options have failed. It's in Federal Court, so maybe it's less influenced:
The union representing Chicago’s rank-and-file cops filed a lawsuit in federal court Friday, alleging the city’s police oversight agency has led dubious investigations and imposed unfairly harsh discipline on officers.
The Chicago Fraternal Order of Police and eight officers allege the city of Chicago, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability and the Chicago Police Department have “conducted untimely, biased and unfair investigations” used “to uphold excessive disciplinary recommendations.”
COPA Chief Administrator Andrea Kersten and several COPA employees are also named as defendants, along with Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling.
Much of the issue lies with the crooked and biased COPA investigators:
Much of the suit hinges on the findings of investigations overturned or altered when officers took cases to arbitration. In 2021, the inspector general’s office found 78% of cases taken to arbitration resulted in discipline being either reduced or eliminated.
If 78% of your "findings" are overturned, then you are provably incompetent, your investigative skills suck, your bias is plain to see, and you obviously are more interested in the "progressive agenda" than in actually making the police a more professional force.

Maybe next they can go after Snelling and his merry band of inspectors more concerned with bump cards and whose wearing the right cargo pants as they harass our brothers and sisters in Blue this week at every roll call. The scumbags at COPA are just plain evil. Their so called investigations are just biased political attacks. There are already Officers that have successfully sued them. There are more who are in the process and winning. The rats are starting to jump ship and talking. This is the beginning of the end for them. If the city and progressives want more " professionalism" than they have to treat the officers professionally ; take the patronage and politics out of the force, end the DEI nonsense and give everyone a fair chance, end residency and recruit only the best the area has to offer, give the officers good equipment and good facilities, end merit promotions unless the standards are clear, transparent and conducted by outside agencies.

the department (Superintendent ) not COPA needs to come up with a matrix for. imposing discipline for rules /general orders infractions. Miss court first time = Redimand and so forth. I ve been reading some of the COPA recommendations and they are excessive compared to the infraction noted.

CPD & the city do not need COPA, in seriousness police have a ton of oversight that works. CoPA is insulation & a few patronage jobs for the political class. The media serve the politicians by saying " COPA's investigating" gets the public & criminals family members off their back. COPA's problem is they go after police officers like the old tac teams trying to make dope arrests. They've run people off the job. Force officers to doubt themselves, but the biggest issue is creating an absolute lawless city in creating useless scared officers who hide all tour & do not confront crime.

OPS and IPRA weren't anywhere near as bad as COPA, COPA starts their investigations with you being guilty, and then they work backwards to try and prove it, if they can't, they gig you for some other nonsense and give you crazy penalties.. We had a discipline matrix, they don't abide by it .

I did. Merit Larry has decided the pants I bought that were correct are all of a sudden are not proper now. Merit Larry only has his uniform and was never the Police. Luckily he has minions like you with his tiny Johnson in your mouth to back him up.
Maybe revamp the uniform and offer cooler options for these months where it gets up to the 90s and above. People be wearing the wrong shit because our uniform is so outdated and uncomfortable. Ain’t hard to write an order and offer a cooler polo option that is patched up (ie what the bike team has) and 5.11 style pants that can be worn May through August

If for instance CPD had 25% black officers but 30% of copa cabana investigations were in to black officers, that is disparate impact and it is proof of racism under the new rules.

Snelling is completely different than COPA and is still leaps and bounds better than Carter and Brown

few years ago, a male black sargent was off duty, during the early morning for some reason he was in fear of his life and shot a teenage autistic child. in fear of his life, failed to call 911, roll up car windows, drive away. cleared of all criminal charges, is still working full duty with CPD. Not sure if sarge was merit?
