In this day and age, why would you venture any sort of opinion where....well....
Let's take a step back and see who's involved:
As protesters gathered for the Democratic National Convention to protest the war in Gaza, a high-ranking Chicago police supervisor allegedly browbeat a Palestinian American sergeant while making inflammatory statements about the ongoing conflict and the treatment of gay people in the Middle East.
The sergeant has since filed a complaint with a police commander that described Area 1 Deputy Chief Don Jerome’s comments as “offensive, misogynistic, homophobic, and racist.” A police spokesperson said the department’s internal affairs bureau is probing the allegations.
Well, that explains most of it. A certain segment of the Department has always felt above the rest of us lowly coppers, venturing opinions and not fearing any sort of retaliation because of their connections. We could name a hundred off the tops of our heads and given a week or so, probably a few hundred more.
#metoo never took hold in the CPD because politics and sex were (and remain) the currency of the realm. Just look at Johnson's johnson, McCarthy's stalker, mistresses and jockers filling inside spots, the histories of certain gym instructors. Even that exempt who was programming his phone number into the devices of young ladies in a street parade last year.
Oh wait.....
And if this sergeant doesn't think that palestinians haven't been slaughtering women, children along with trying to teach homosexuals to fly, well....google is your friend.

Ok, so I know first hand since I was there that what the news is reporting is correct and is missing a lot more info. The Sgt. who was minding his business along with everyone in that community room was totally surprised when Jerome walked in and started talking shit about LGBTQ being be headed by Muslims and other shit. When the supervisor asked him in front of all of us that he shouldn’t categorize all Muslims like he was doing he began to then focus on him and tried to embarrass, humiliate and school him about Muslim and Palestinian history. This all happened in front of numerous other supervisors in including the Commander Mark, Lt. Brown and dozens of others who can attest that this was a very awkward position for Jerome to put not only himself but everyone else present in that room. Jerome fucked with him for about 15 mins and really pissed that Sgt. who always has the troops best interest and is well liked. Jerome is a jagoff for putting everyone there that day in that position. At the very least he should be demoted for being an idiot and putting his foot in his mouth.
Jerome was saying nonsense a few years back when they had us out there for the cross town classic in 009. Somebody turned to me and shook their head like - wow, I can’t believe he just said that in front of a bunch of coppers he doesn’t know. He’s more than old enough to retire and find some other 6 figure job. This will do it. It’ll just tie things up a bit. Oh and yeah- and they do behead gays in Palestine, Sarge.
I always thought if ol' Jeromio caught a bad beef it would be for him getting his "freak" on.

So basically…. A Commander made a comment the Sgt didn’t like. The Commander asked things the Sgt couldn’t answer or explain. Sgt got butthurt and filed a complaint about it. Classic BS none to less.

Don was very respectful when the sgt spoke up. Basically Don asked his view on what hamas was and the history and what part of information he stated was wrong. He was intrigued to hear from the side he did not hear from before. And asked the sgt to send him information to better understand thus the exchange of personal email. Looks like someone might be looking for an easy lawsuit for hostile work environment for reporting to retire early.

At least Jerome made a decent amount of arrests in his career and was a working copper unlike many, many, many of the bosses today that probably have made less than 50 in their career.

White shirts like to horseplay, crack jokes, gossip and bait their subordinates into controversial conversations and as soon as a disagreement occurs, they stop speaking to the subordinate or try to write them up. I’m glad the sergeant didn’t take the bait. Hold the Deputy Chief to a higher standard, because tension is already flaring up within the department because we have a controversial election coming up in November.

It amazes me the amount of officers that are defending Don Jerome. Even if it is true, you shouldn’t be discussing it at work and especially not with someone who may be affected by the circumstances.

My first trip out of the country was for peacekeeping duty in Egypt/Israel. It took about four hours in Israel to clearly see who the aggressors are. This will never change. Every Arab hates Israelis, knowing that, how the hell can we let them in this country? They have all sworn to kill Jews whenever possible. How can they be admitted when we know that they all have intentions to kill Jews?

So some Civilian exempt by the last name of Brown got his panties in a bunch because a few National Guardsmen denied him entry via the exit only gate at Sox park on the last day of the DNC. So what does Brown do, instead of going to the correct gate, he begins to berate, belittle, scream at them like a mad man would, ordered someone to open the gate so that he could enter, stating that he ran this $hit, and then he went and committed the class act of all and had their loaned unmarked vehicles taken away. These soldiers were being paid dirt money, and got treated like less than dirt. Way to go, show them how appreciated they were.

The Don is correct. One of the protests was "Feminists & LGBT for Palestinians". Palestinians definitely do not support feminism and the majority will stone or behead LGBT members. This so-called Sergeant is looking to play the victim in hopes of a merit promotion or a payout. Don may do and say things that people do not like, but he will back up anyone and isn't afraid to make a decision. I wouldn't say the same for this Sgt.

However, if that exchange is true and Jerome did open the floor to a respectful dialogue than it was bs for the sergeant to proceed. He’s using it to help himself instead of actually educating anyone…and I still don’t believe that there’s never any killing or persecution of gays by Hamas.

Dropping paper in support of someone is one thing within the department, it doesn’t mean sh-t in court. Jerome isn’t a new boss. He’s been in command for a while. Bosses should know to stay away from those types of conversations. Be careful dropping paper and serving as a character witness, because you can be dragged into court.
