ShotSpotter Over-Performs Again
Doing the job that citizens won't do - calling the cops:
- With just over a month to go before Mayor Brandon Johnson is slated
to pull the plug on ShotSpotter, the gunfire detection system continues
to help police find shooting victims that no one called 911 about and
arrive at shooting scenes faster than if they had to wait for witnesses
to call.
Late Monday night, a man was shot and killed in an alley behind 4845 West West End in Austin. CPD said in a media statement that the 33-year-old had been shot multiple times in the face and arms. He did not survive.
But the only reason Chicago police officers knew about the shooting was because they received a pin-point, accurate notification from ShotSpotter. Nobody called 911 about the shooting before police arrived, according to a source familiar with the case. Police dispatch records appear to confirm that information.
The citizens are so inured to gunfire that they don't even call the police when it happens. The dead guy would have laid there all night and most of the net day attracting flies, rodents and bad karma until someone found him on their way to buy dope....or the garbage men stumbled across him on Wednesday.

Sure the Spot Shotter works most of the time. BJ decides his connections aren’t getting any kickbacks so the program is cancelled…..who cares? Eventually the garbage crew will find a body in an alley or trash can or the street sweeper will find the remains. Nobody cares, the politicians are liars, the police villains, and the community, well it’s been going on forever so, then don’t care either.
You do realize when they get rid of it you won't have to go out and write a report? It will be, according to the commentators here, your dream, less work, less danger.
Without out shot spotter garbage men would just come in with shovels and a scoop and throw the dead trash away!
"Over-performs?" The guy is dead and all it did was get us to him faster. Even if he had lived and we made an arrest, Foxx and her minions would let the offender off.
I am going to go along with the Department's "Balancing Test." Is the cost of this technology enhancing Officer safety and public safety enough to justify it? I say hell no.

Yup - Civilian here, live in 010, and I was *SHOCKED* to a see a CPD squad [Beat 1023] on Cermak yesterday. Rare enough in a normal week, much less this one.
The Dearly Departed will be missed.
On the bright side, the statistics will hurt Conehead with his voting base. (And those found the next morning are probably not angels anyway.)
