What Equipment?

Another argument against (A) take home cars and (B) having to park them on the street:

  • Chicago police are investigating at least three incidents where a person has broken into one of their vehicles on the Northwest Side.

In a statement released on Saturday afternoon, police said the incidents occurred over the last couple of weeks in the Edison Park neighborhood.

Police said the suspect targeted law enforcement vehicles to get their hands on police equipment. In each of the incidents, the suspect breaks the driver or passenger's rear window to gain access and take various pieces of equipment inside.

Leaving Department equipment inside, of course, is also frowned upon. Not that break-ins haven't happened in station garages either though.

So what are they getting? Radios? Vests with insignia?

That’s what happens when you live in the ghetto.
Save me all of that “Edison Park is the best neighborhood” crap.
This shit is happening all the time up there.

Too bad, so sad for your property values.
But protecting the home front is one thing these tactical warriors can’t seem to do.

Years ago, my understanding was that if you had a take home car, you were required to put it in your garage. No one really followed it though and department vehicles got parked on the street all the time. But if something happened to it, it was your responsibility. Is that still a thing?

The Invaders from foreign nations just adore how fucking pathetically feeble minded some of our police are.

Ripe, oh so RIPE for the pickings.

Priviledged with a company vehicle to take home? Well, of course they don't remove every single law enforcement piece of equipment from that vehicle, every single time they expose it to theft by parking on the streets of infamous ease of thieveries. Why, that would be too much effort.

Whether native gangsters, for their own misuse or for sales to others, invading gangsters accustomed to being, when caught, summarily executed, also for sales, invaders bent on the woefully underestimated terrorists' impending activities, on and on and on, the fucking dickwads whose negligences enable this shit are directally culpable if not intentionally so.

More than mere slothful carelessness. More than feeble minded negligence. Culpable. If not criminally, certainly viscerally.

I remember years ago KJ, not the convicted felon twin brother who stole his dead mother’s social security $ for decades but Kevin who left his gun in his car and they broke in and stole it. He got a ten day suspension but then got rewarded with a couple of political promotions and then a post CPD gig with Shotspotter.

Unrelated but, could you imagine if most city employees weren't required to live within the city of Chicago? We would be left with only about 35% of the residents actually paying taxes, if that. As we all know, this city is made up mostly welfare roaches and city employees.

Some things to consider:

-The City will not reimburse you for items taken.
-If you are able to claim these items on your home insurance, you won't get much after your
deductible and your rates will increase.
-You will be held administratively accountable, one way or another through the Department.
-Now, some shitbag is running around with YOUR police equipment.
-Finally, why would you subject yourself to the paperwork, aggravation, cost and discipline?

“Take home cars”. Now there’s a real topic for conversation. Why take home? Most of the people with them would never be called out after business hours. And most wouldn’t answer the phone anyway. Lots of money here that could be spent elsewhere. How about better cars for the people actually working.

Even a child could could solve this "problem" End the use of take home cars! Use the bus. It's free! And it might even make the CTA safer, as well. With one or two exceptions I cannot think of anyone using a take home car who is ever so important to a police situation that their arrival on the scene is really all that important. A possible exception is the Talley dope-mobile, of course, as the customers might get out of hand waiting for their shit to arrive by bus.

I spent a long time on the job. Since day one in the academy I never left anything important in my car. Even today now retired and living far away from Chicago and parking in a garage, I still don’t. Really don’t understand why anyone would leave their vest weapon uniform wallet etc.? Laziness. If it’s true that this happened to a supervisor then they should not be a supervisor.

Knowing that take homes are being targeted, why would you leave equipment in there? Seriously, how stupid is that. Can confirm. Stopped a car full of French citizens. 21-23 years old. Definitely police-haters. Said they were here for Lollapalooza and staying for the DNC protests. Travelled thousands of miles to be part of history and create chaos in a foreign country? Lots of policer-hating blue-haired mask-wearing hipsters moving into AirBNBs in Bridgeport and Pilsen the past week as well. The cashiers at my grocery store who ask for ID from them for their buying overpriced craft beer said they'd seen more Oregon and California IDs in the past week they'd ever seen. Spray paint and PVC pipe sold out at my local Ace Hardware. Why?

all cpd officers should have marked take home cars. chicago is so short of manpower,it's so freekin dangerous. give every police officer a marked car, start paying them from the time they sign into pdt before pulling away from their homes until they arrive back home.
some of these house mice might actually be forced to assist a working police officer or citizen while enroute to work.
allow dispatcher to use gps and assign the house mice as assist cars on in progress calls.
