More Non-Punishment
Caught red-handed....and his sentence?
- When Chicago police arrested two men and seized 211 catalytic converters last
year, prosecutors said it was the culmination of a nearly year-long
investigation. Now, one of those men has pleaded guilty to playing a
role in the crime. His sentence? Probation.
Cops had a search warrant in hand for a storage unit in the 4500 block of West North Avenue when Marzel Woodard, called the “ringleader” of the operation, arrived at the storage facility with Vincent Parks on June 30, 2023, officials said
The undercover officers watched as Woodard and Parks started to unload catalytic converters from a vehicle into the unit, prosecutors said. They tried to run away when the cops moved in but didn’t get far.
Police allegedly found five severed catalytic converters inside Woodard’s vehicle. Officials claimed that another 206 converters were found in Woodard’s storage unit as they executed the warrant.
Every single one of these thefts cost the car owner in excess of $1,200 in repairs.
Until we get some real sentencing for blatant crimes, we're going to get more and more and more of it.

One day working in one of the districts, an older woman was making out a report for her 3rd catalytic converter in 6 months. Even with insurance- it’ll cost you on average $500-800 out of pocket to replace. The poor woman was in tears. Not everyone has a nice secure garage in the suburbs like these judges. Then you have it happen and the insurance gets hiked or dropped, so many people choose to not even report it. $247,000 worth of merchandise and repairs, hundreds of victims and it gets treated like he stole penny candy.
Feds should go after them for tampering with emissions equipment. They'd at least get some hefty fines.
Say her name, Judge Tyria Walton, remember her name. Go back and look at some of her rulings, even on this blog. She is the poster child of what’s wrong with the Cook County Court System.
I am glad the entire state doesn't have inspections.
If someone steals my catalytic converter I am replacing it with a straight pipe.
BTW the next time some climate doomer starts in on you about the evils of CO2 ask them if it is so bad why has every car for the last 50 years has come with a gasoline powered CO2 generator ?
That is what a catalytic converter is in essence.
A car with a catalytic converter has more back pressure and gets worse mileage than the same car without one.
The exhaust reacts with the catalyst and turns unburnt fuel and a few other compounds in to CO2 and water vapor.
You could increase the mileage of cars and reduce CO2 emissions overnight by removing catalytic converters.
Sure smog would come back with a vengeance but isn't CO2 killing the planet?
Crime pays especially in shitcongo
We know about the thieves, what happened to the convertors?
Does he get the converters back?
Unreal. Actually distressing to read that.
I'm so done with doing any police work!
If one of these poor criminals get hurt by an Officer, you can bet you will be brought up on criminal charges!
Why risk it and just retire and move away when you can!
Every single one of the victims should somehow find out where the reprobate lives and let nature take its course... When prison's safer, the criminals will beg to go there... Either the Justice system gives everyone a fair shake and licks up criminals or the vigilantes will likely take over the job abdicated by their Government...
Who do they sell these converters to?
Is there a "Maxwell Street" vendor that resells them like they did stolen hubcaps years ago?
Never gonna happen in crook county, only the shitheads get the good deals
What a joke of a criminal justice system! Wouldn't even call it a criminal justice system anymore. More like a time out and go back to doing your crime!
Keep my mommas name out yo' mowf!!!
File a class action against the storage company for failure to supervise units.
That will teach him a lesson. Did the judge gently tussle his hair and lightheartedly say, "Go on, get out of here. You crazy kids. I really mean it this time."
They sell to metal recycling businesses. Who should know better than to buy stolen merch, but don't care because it makes them money.
What happened to the law that said a catalytic converter is an essential part of the car and to be caught with a stolen catalytic converter is the equivalent of "possession of a stolen car"?
Each one of those thefts cost the victim ar least $1,200! (Don't forget the tow charges and the Uber to pick your car back up). AND 10% goes to the big guy so why would the crooked Mohawk man or porky pig want to stop it? Do the math you got your sales tax and your state employees income tax etc...
Same.goes for the visitors who get jacked up for their thousand dollar iphones. Just go buy a new one it's good for retail sales and more tax dollars for the conehead crime syndicate.. right
They should come down hard on him and give him “double” probation.
Reealy good question! what happens to confiscated converters?
Agree, but it is not just the judge. It is the States Attorney.. Perhaps Team-Burke will be better and actually felony charge A-Holes like this once she is in place starting January 25?
BTW, it is sad Crimesha did not press this guy up against the wall to at least get him to plead out if he reveals the big fish buyer?
The city sold them at auction and made money off of crime victims’ losses
This is how it works. Even if a judge wants to lock up an offender, he has to keep in mind that the crooked Chief Judge, Tim Evans, doesn't want that to happen to his voting bloc. Evans is highly offended by honest judges. Evans simply transfers the "offending" judge to some clerical post and all is well.
Yah!!! They always told us that alteration or removal was in violation of federal law punishable by up to "xx" years in prison and "xx,xxx" in fines.
Until a judge, a politician (democrat only) or reporter is hit, nothing will be done.
"should know better"... heh. Junkyards are all mobbed up. Could give a shit less. "Guy brought it in, said it was from his car...I had no reason to think otherwise...Gave me an ID that looked legit... I had no reason to think otherwise. Look at the book if ya want."

Yup, that's all folks.
Hell yea, even the tag on my mattress says i cant remove it or be federally prosecuted
Crimes such as these criminal acts are of little concern to Democrats, Socialists, radicals, liberals and the one term mayor. Violent crime, property crimes, financial bankruptcy, corruption and mob rule are the order of the day. A thriving operation all under the protection of the media whores.
Judges Walton and Nowinski are particularly inept, legal mental midgets and exemplify the perverse nature of Timmy Evans and the Crook County Circuit Court Black Robes. They routinely impose their nutty system of (in)justice while looking through their anus. And Crook County voters retain these judicial miscreants at every election. Keep voting for Democrats and keep paying through the ass for your catalytic converters.
Beautiful! That would actually work, the right jurisdictional hook!
Fit punishment would be to make him work long enough to pay off the victims, while lives in a government supplied dormitory. And if he slacked off, the slammer.
