Review Commissioner Samantha Steele appeared in court Friday to contest
a yearlong driver’s license suspension following a DUI arrest in
November.
Steele, 45, faced a one-year license suspension after her arrest for allegedly driving under the influence.
She appeared with her attorney, John Fotopoulos, for a nearly five-hour hearing. Steele did not enter a plea but argued for the return of her license.
We've been told for years that "implied consent" is the Law. That driving is a privilege and being licensed by the state means they can test you for influencing substances - especially when an open bottle of wine is found in your vehicle following a crash. If we recall correctly, the "Warning to Motorist" form set has the Implied Consent statute printed and referenced a few times on the paperwork.
But if you're an "elected official," which this scumbag reminded officers of numerous times during the accident investigation, you just have to lean on a judge to ignore what's actually written on the paperwork and has been part of the licensing process for a few decades now.
And this is certainly an interesting twist:
Steele will return to court in March as her DUI case continues. She serves on the Cook County Board of Review, which hears property tax appeals. Due to a quirk in state law, she also holds a similar position on a county board in Indiana.
Gee, two government jobs in two different states.

Do you think when you file your tax appeal to her (Cook County Board of Review Commissioner For Tax Appeals) she will give you a break? Don’t count on it.

From looking at the body cam video the officers were very civil to her, and this is what she says. Score another point for one of our Democrats as this is what they do and feel. They have no shame. And nor will the judge when he cuts her free. She should be fired.
I believe that would be TWO quirks, sir. Illinois and Indiana.
Is she any relation to all the other Steele family members on the county board and MWRD?
I have seen plenty of people beat Summary Suspension Hearings because of poor paper work, documentation and testimony. Don't know all the specifics but unfortunately this is not unusual.
And the Asian officer needs to sue this biach too for everything she said on body cam...

Ok first of all she got off because her lawyer was able to find errors in the paperwork the POs filled out .. they screwed up the warning to motorist which is an easy way to beat the SSS.
The the A/O got man handled on the stand due to errors and lack of experience to explain what had happen was..
Then... you have a sgt on scene repeat several times... I was waiting for you to do that, whipping out his handcuffs and aggressively trying to put them on her without ever telling her she was under arrrest. This dui investigation was in trouble as soon as the POs arrived on scene.
You had a srgt on scene who took action with aggression, instead of ensuring, giving guidance and supervising.
No one to blame but the Sgt on scene!
There was so many reason to have been able to articulate arresting her on scene.. but they failed to state any.
Sgt on scene was a merit winner solely based on his race code.. this dept is the worst
I’ll have to go looking but when I first read the story it was that. Something was supposedly done at the wrong time or not done properly. Not sticking up for her but the rationale was related to that supposedly.
DUI laws are written to be complicated because they are written by lawyers who want to give their fellow lawyers a way to beat a DUI. Those lawyers who wrote the law may someday be in private practice or they handle cases as a side job so giving a well planned out for DUI defendant is bank for them.
Don't worry, if she gets off, you'll just catch her again.

Ya’ think since she’s collecting two paychecks—-one from Illinois and one from Indiana—Steele would be smart enough to hire a driver when she’s out and about enjoying her cocktails.
