Hey Look!

Felony shoplifting is a thing again:

  • Shoplifters in Chicago are being slapped with felony charges 154% more often under Cook County’s new state’s attorney than they were under Kim Foxx’s administration.

Retired justice Eileen O’Neill Burke took office on December 2 and immediately followed through on her campaign promise to adhere to state law by pursuing felonies against people who shoplift merchandise worth more than $300. Foxx ordered prosecutors to withhold felony charges unless the value exceeded $1,000 or the accused shoplifter had ten or more previous convictions.

Three weeks into O’Neill Burke’s administration, the results of the rule change are already apparent.

As we said for years, Crimesha had ZERO authority to alter State Law, raising the threshold for felony charges. In fact, O'Neill Burke is saying some thing that sound eerily familiar:

  • “The felony retail theft statute says that the value of goods has to be $300 or above to be a felony,” O’Neill Burke said during a February town hall covered by Nadig Newspapers. “You can clear out several aisles at Walgreens before you get to $1,000. The ramification of this policy is that retail stores have closed all over the city because of theft.”

How many retail establishments shrank their city/county footprint because of the flagrant and constant thefts? That affects the tax base that funds much of government, basic Econ 101. But Crimesha was put into place to destroy the city tax base and insist anyone who complained must be racist.

Shoplifting has caused businesses to leave the city. They better try to save what’s left by charging the criminals with a felony.

So how does one hold accountable an elected official who grossly abused her elected office by neglecting to do her duty?

Too little too late. For the past 8 years you have taught a generation of young black and brown residents (14-22 year olds) that it's acceptable to shoplift and loot. Even to fight with store security guards and responding police. "The corporations are the real criminals and they have insurance anyways", said Kim Foxx probably.

In Indiana, shoplifting is considered a felony if the stolen property is worth more than $750, or if the offender has a previous theft conviction. Key point having a previous conviction gets you an upgrade to felony. $300 might be a low threshold considering Bidenomics inflation, but the lack of felony charges on repeat offenders is unacceptable.

I was pulled over for trying to steal an 18cent pack of Juicy Fruit in 1965. (25 sticks) and my dad talked with the clerk. "Don't call the police. I will take care of this!" (I wished for the police!) After the strap, I NEVER thought of stealing again. Wrong is wrong. The horrible parenting and lax laws, breakdown of the family have turned up down and down up. MAYBE things will change?

But if you don't create a food desert crisis in the community via shoplifting and robberies how the heck are you going to justify opening a government run store in that desert and not let the crisis go to waste? /sarcasm

And if you dont lock up the criminals labeling it as "social justice reform" then you have a crisis that you can pretend to resolve with a new stagg of "violence interruptors " funded by taxpayers via a ex convicts "re-entry" program.

Crime is down when you don't take the report, don't prosecute the criminals we can make the numbers what everyone we want them to be. What's the point of see something say something when the criminal cabal does nothing. Crime victims already have taken a loss and we expect them to waste more time filing reports and going to court? He'll nah cut your losses and just move on.

The CTU Crime Cartel and so-called NGO masterminds are in charge

This is great, but let's see how she starts charging illegal gun possession. Should be issue #1. Illinois Pols make such a big deal about the need for Gun Control laws, yet I've never heard a single case of these mutts getting stacked charges for lack of FOID (even for possession of a bullet), lack of CCL, or mag capacity exceeding City law. You got those gun control laws you want so bad? THEN USE THEM. + Immediate referral of all "switch" cases to the Feds for possession of a machine gun. These "pipe" swinging idiots start going down for 10 years AFTER a 50% reduction... then you might see some relief from the roving armed robbery crews.

Similar experience for me around the same time. I was on my own and the owner caught me, told me not to come back and let me go. But days later my mother was in the store and cashier who knew her told her what happened. When she came home and confronted me I expected to get it when my dad came home. It wasn’t just “the belt”, for us it was the “police belt”. But not this time, she was so ashamed of what I had done she beat my ass far worse than my dad ever did.

Funny thing a few months ago I was visiting with my long retired CPD cousin and for some reason he referred to the belt he was wearing and when I saw it I said “oh shit, the police belt, I remember that”. Lmao. But when I really thought about it I can’t really remember specific instances of when he used it. So it might have been a few times when I was really young and then it was just the threat and he never needed to use again.

I've observed that people with broken hands can't shoplift. If they have broken knees they have trouble walking into a store and trying to run out with ill gotten goods...

Just an observation.

Zakly. In 2021 Groot publicly blamed retailers for not making safety a priority.

"We also got to push retailers. Some of the retailers downtown and [on] Michigan Avenue, I will tell you, I'm disappointed that they are not doing more to take safety and make it a priority. For example, we still have retailers that won't institute plans like having security officers in their stores, making sure that they've got cameras that are actually operational, locking up their merchandise at night. Chaining high-end bags, these purses seem to be something that is attracting a lot of attention on these organized retail theft units," Groot said.

If the offender enters the establishment with tools that defeat anti-theft devices and then commit the theft it is absolutely a burglary. Though the store may be open to the public it is a crime to enter the store with those devices. So, unlawful entry with the intent to commit a theft or felony therein, is, wait for it - Burglary. Cook County just refused to charge appropriately.

Also need a new IL state law banning the serving of sentences "concurrently" - the mandate must be sentences to be served Consecutively.
