Contrarian Saving You Money

Combing through the city budget, they discovered this (via their X/Twitter feed):

  • Chicago has 8 positions of Deputy Mayor at $189K and 7 Asst. Deputy Mayors at $147K.

Johnson's COS earns $217K; First Deputy Chief earns $192K; and 3 Asst. Deputy COS each earn $157K.

City commissioners report to deputy mayors, who report to Johnson.

Why can't Chicago's COO and COS directly coordinate with commissioners? Why the need for patronage hires to intermediate?

    Johnson is ripping off taxpayers.

Why in the Hell do we need 8 "deputy mayors" and 7 "assistant deputy mayors"? Whom, by the way, no one voted for at all. These are just made up positions filled with patronage hacks - each of who no doubt has a staff, offices and vehicles, all paid for by taxpayers....who are going to get soaked for $150 million in short order after all the deal making is done.

There's more than enough government fat that could easily be cut to cover that $150 million, even more after all is said and done.

New "re-entry" program. Is it NASA?

This just in...

Brandon Johnson alongside aldermen and community partners celebrated the launch of the City’s Office of Re-entry and announced the selection of Joseph Mapp to serve as Director of Re-entry. As part of the Mayor’s Office of Community Safety, the Office of Re-entry will coordinate policies, programs, and initiatives to support Chicago residents returning to their communities after detention or incarceration.

CAN YOU HEAR THE GIANT SUCKING SOUND OF TAXPAYERS MONEY??

We have to help those illegal immigrants and all the scum committing crimes while wearing electronic monitors again and again don't you know?

Established as part of Mayor Johnson’s commitment to investing in people, the Office of Re-entry is staffed by a growing team with sustainable and dedicated funding through the City’s Cannabis Regulation Tax fund. Each year, more than 10,000 individuals return to Chicago after serving time in jail or prison, the majority to four historically disinvested communities on the South and West sides. The Office of Re-entry will lead initiatives aimed at providing holistic support to returning residents and their families, ensuring impacted individuals can access the resources they need to thrive.

“As a long-time advocate for second chances, I am proud to support the appointment of Joseph Mapp as Director of Re-entry,” said Alderman Walter Burnett. “Joseph’s deep understanding of the challenges faced by returning citizens, combined with his commitment to restorative justice, will play a critical role in helping our community members successfully transition back in

The judges and the s.a. have to create the crisis first so you can do things that you would not normally be able to do like create another director posisition with a team of political faithful to drain the taxpayers

Ya gots to lift the felons up, give them a second chance with a $5 million dollar budget And stuff. .. except if your name is trump

Mapp served more than 26 years after he was charged as an accomplice in an armed robbery that led to a murder in 1993.

“We will work to bridge city government and the community to identify, support and scale up programs that identify successful pathways for reentry,” Mapp said at a news conference Thursday morning. “I do not take this lightly.”

The office — with a $5 million budget funded by cannabis tax revenue, according to the mayor’s office — is set to start drafting a policy agenda for 2025 and work to make existing resources more accessible for people leaving prison. The Department of Reentry operates under the Mayor’s Office of Community Safety Team.

Mapp said the department added a message to city job postings encouraging people who had served prison time to apply. He succeeds Willette Benford, who was appointed in June 2022 by former Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

Previously, the director of reentry didn’t have an office or a permanent budget but was tasked with implementing suggestions from the “Roadmap for a Second Chance City” drafted under Lightfoot’s office.

As if because the job is said to be funded by weed ita okay and that money couldn't be used to reduce property taxes instead.

We don't want to end crime just like the race baiters don't want to end racism because if this stuff was ended how would you make your money in these positions. This $5 million budget would have to shut down and that would put people out of work and taxpayers certainly don't want that right? Think of the children !

Is this guy also tied to the ctu?

A four person office with a $5 mil budget

As part of the deal last year that ensured the passage of the city’s spending plan for 2024, Johnson agreed to earmark $5 million to expand to help formerly incarcerated people at the request of Ald. Walter Burnett (27th Ward) and the City Council’s Black Caucus.

A spokesperson for Johnson told WTTW News in November 2023 the office would become a separate department, but those plans were dropped.

Several scheduled new conferences planned to announce Mapp’s hiring were scrapped this fall amid a crush of emergencies, said Erin Connelly, a spokesperson for Johnson.

During Thursday’s news conference, Burnett said he promised to vote against the mayor’s budget proposal unless Johnson agreed to set aside more money for formerly incarcerated Chicagoans in the same spending plan that earmarked $150 million to care for migrants that made their way to Chicago from the southern border.

Did they ever find Bennett missing campaign money?

Add that to all of the activation centers the Chicago Public schools that are way under utilized with full staff few students a graduation rate that is worse than a Third World country children that can’t even read I think it was like 66% when they graduate high school They could save billions of dollars there, but Brandon is using everything he can soaking to taxpayers because after all the teachers Union even bought him that office at least the governor who also is a clown used his mothers and dad’s money to spend 100s of millions to buy the governor’s office, not taxpayers money.

And, at one time, and maybe still the case, there were budgeted positions in the First Deputies office that were actually filled by civilians working in City Hall. This was a nice way to give these patronage hacks a high salary and a car and never worked for the police department.

The City Council should pass an ordinance limiting the number of police officers that can be assigned or detailed to body guard duties. If the stories are accurate, there are hundreds of police officers in that assignment and who knows how any are detailed. No Chicago mayor needs over 100 body guards and drivers. Take at least 100 from this assignment and put them on the CTA. Arrogance and a narcist mayor and his First lady

About a month ago conehead pulled his race card and got all offended when a reported claimed the conehead was going to live it up in London to watch the Bears. Oh how dare you. I am going to London to attract business

Whelp.... where's the business mowhawk man attracted where I don't see it.

The Bally's casino was supposed to solve all the police and fire pension problems. Why we expect revenues of $200 mil...and the latest report says ballys only brought in about $125 mil over 12 months

BTW the new Wind Creek Chicago Southland casino in East Hazel Crest just opened

All i see is a money laundering machine using the public schools.

Chicago public schools have 80,000 fewer students from ten years agoand the CTU/CPS budget is about doubled during the same time.

Chicago now spends over $39,000 per student and what do we get in return? We get a failure rate of 80% of CPS students cannot read or do math.

univ of Il. tuition is only $32,000

But that's okay tho. See when the kids drop out join gangs and do criminal things we have a $5 mil re-entry office and foundation funding to throw more money into the money pit once they are out of the cook county We have these so-called "Ministries" that partner with high schools that you never heard of to re-educate the kids that CPS was unwilling or unable to do. That is what you call re-entry/re-education camps.

Anyone ever hear a high school in chicago called Liberty High School? Mapquest says its at 7739 s Halsted. doesnt look like any high school Ive ever seen. Mapquest has another address at 7426 s. Vincennes. Pulling those addresses up on Google maps to look at the buildings dont look like schools to me.

Some people dont want the chicago schools to be accountable because then what would the people do that run the ministries and the re-entry offices.

Same plan has been going on at CTU/CPS for years. Get 'perfessionally edumacated' to where you get the high pay and don't have to see students anymore, what do they do? Create a whole level of bureaucracy that no other school district needs so they can go sit at a desk and twiddle pens. You see, it's not just empty schools that need closing, it is a whole slew of PhD and MDs that do no teaching that can go, too.
